When I was 7 my mother bought me my first comic book. Justice League of America #123. It was a crossover with the JSA & the writers & editors of DC comics on earth prime. I understood every word even though Robin was an adult in a weird yellow & grey costume.

As an adult I can't watch a television program unless I catch the first episode or catch up on DVD. If I come into an episode of Mad Men late & Don is at the office in shorts & not a suit & tie, it would drive me mad not knowing why he's in shorts if I didn't slip into kid mode.

I guess my answer to the op's question is to get 7 year olds reading 2000AD. They won't care if they miss chapters of back story. It will make them think the comic is more complex than it is & thus, more adult.

I normally look on Amazon to see what is upcoming. Most of the upcoming UK Dredd books are listed and many 2000ad books are sold by superbookdeals on amazon. You pay a little more, but it's worth it.

A woman I work with brought her kids to FCBD an hour & a half early. There were already 50 people waiting for the store to open.

The American case files are distributed by Simon & Schuster. their cover price is $19.99. The Rogue Trooper books have the same style covers. American case files Vol #6 comes out in august.

I think if you have a tablet, there is no harm in downloading the free 2000AD app and the free 48 page sample edition, Judge Brian. You may be pleasantly surprised. Might save you a shed-load of cash... If you don't have a tablet, I'm with TA and wouldn't recommend sitting in from of a PC screen!

I don't have a tablet yet, but my PC uses a 32' HDTV for a monitor. I still don't like reading comics on it.

From my shop I think at the moment its £2.20 for a $2.99 book and £2.80 for a $3.99 book. They are really good and the do reduce the price when the exchange rate gets better (assuming Diamond pass that onto them). At the moment however the £ is at the lower end of its range to the $.

That means its better for the UK talent to work in the US too (I think). That's the main reason a strong pound is important, all the creators come back as working for tooth becomes a better money earner... but then all the good work done marketing it to the US falls apart as it cost a fortune over there... damn can't win!

That's a great price. Diamond must ship a ton of comics each week to the UK.

Thanks for recommending digital, but I hate digital. I have to have the paper in my hands or I'll go without.

I've finally decided to order both the Meg & 2000AD from a comics service here in the US. It's going to cost $5.25 per prog & $12.25 for the Meg. There is a 25% discount for preordering. $3.94 & $9.19 US.

I was wondering how much a $2.99 DC or a $3.99 Marvel costs in the UK, Ireland, Australia, & other countries.

I wouldn't say it defeats the object of the exercise, the object is to get new readers.

Comic shops have to buy the free comics, they do so to promote their shops & comics in general. Most American shops don't carry 2000 AD, so they don't carry the free prog. Rebellion prints the free prog in hopes to gain new readers. Offering the free prog a month or so after FCBD would be a great promotion for both the prog & the collections.

Rebellion should post free downloads of the Free Comic Book Day progs. They weren't easy to find in the U.S.

Now maybe I can find a volume 5 for $20 or less.

I think it's time Rebellion reprinted all the trades, or make a cool omnibus.

Locke & Key by Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez.  It's my favorite finite series.
