Love the Kev Walker Skullmo! The page that that is the prelim for has to be one of the greatest pages of interior art in 2000AD's history (alongside a few other Joe pages...aongst others).

If Brian Bolland did a Slaine strip I think that I would literally DIE RIGHT THERE AND THEN!!
You'd have to make sure there would be ambulance on the ready as I WOULD BE DEAD!!! :P

I love the way Bolland used Bisley's Slaine as his model....the best!

General / Re: How do you like your Slaine characters?

Erm.....

1. Biz Slough Feg, pathetic, yet somehow majestic at the same time.

2. I loved Biz's Giger-esque take on Balor, he wasn't really a character in the Horned God, so why not make him as cool as possible?

3. It's hard for me to rate one artists Ukko above another, but the sequence in Horned God where Slaine catches him removing the eyes if Knucker, is one of the great panel sequences of 2000AD (the original artwork for this piece adorns my living room wall).

4. I love Bisley's take on Medb, she looks exactly like the wiccan that you see knocking about the Celtic heritage sites on any given solstice. Her looks veer between beautiful and vicious at any given moment.
I've never seen any busting a Cyndi Lauper look, a la Fabs (whom I love, by the way).

5. The Dragon fight sequence in Book II of the Horned God is his definitive sequence for me, the look of sheer glee on his face as he takes a chunk out of the Spirit Dragon is equal of even the greatest Disney efforts at anthropomorphology.

A straight 5 for Biz, cheers. (results would differ slightly if McMahon was more involved...)

I think Sam Smith would make an excellent Slaine, after all, his new album has sold more than One Direction...

General / Re: LIMERICK COMP - VOTING THREAD
05 January, 2015, 08:17:49 PM
1. Skullmo's Frog is the best.
2. King Pops 2
3. Strontium 71

If this comp was still open I'd write (I was going to enter this into a comp about 20 odd years ago):

A man with a dial on his head,
Decided to beat up Judge Dredd,
He was such a twit,
It was himself he hit
and so he got beat up instead...

I started a topic about this on general, feel free to delete it if it is breaching any types of rules...

Anyways here's a couple of Joe pages from my original comic art collection to get everyone in the mood!

A couple of my original Joe pages by Biz...

Oh, I never saw an announcement by Judge Burdis, but yes, it is a standalone Joe Story (and fully painted to boot!).

Not a bad Christmas present at all.... :)

I am totally looking forward to reading the original Indigo Prime, Revere and Firekind.  He's a writer who can deliver.

I increasingly feel that Revere is the best thing Smith ever worked on. For a work of apocalyptic occult drug-fuelled weirdness, the story is genuinely beautiful - not just the sublime art of Harrison, but the emotional impact of Smith's script. One of the finest endings to any 2000AD series ever too - and the whole thing reads extremely well in one go, maybe better than it did in weekly doses.
Aye, I second this post.

General / Re: Why and when did you stop reading 2000AD?
14 October, 2014, 01:57:51 AM
In the mid 90's (about 95-96) I picked up a prog and there was literally nothing that I wanted to read. I quit 2000AD there and then.
I was already beginning to drift at that stage.

I often wonder what great stories I have missed out on...but that said, i seem to have very different tastes to the vast majority!!*

* That I love Revere, The Clown Book and reckon that Biz drew the best Dredd etc.

I'd like to see something official to verify the fact that this magazine sells well to inmates in the US through subscription. Just because porn is banned doesn't stop it getting into prisons, just like drugs and mobile phones seemingly do!

2) Are you going to start doubting relatively innocuous factual statements offered in good faith by other posters and demanding documentary evidence for them?

Jim
I recall your good self doubting a 'relatively innocuous' fact that I posted once...

Then I produced some documentary evidence... ;)
