That O'Neill nemesis/Torquemada 1985 annual contents page is a really exquisite piece. Lovely.

Ps: whatever could you mean Dale?   ::)

I actually preferred his previous 'more sedate' stuff....

AYE! Nothing says subtle like that last panel (above) of ancient Celt Medb looking like she's been shot in the face with Homer Simpson's make-up gun, while an engorged purple glans tears through her blood drenched vagina/mouth. God help us all if Bisley ever decides to stop pussy footing around and just draw exactly what's on his mind.
Love the Homer reference! The Thomas Edison episode was great.

AS for that particular panel, I was looking through movie posters from the 70's and 80's and have a fair idea where Biz got the inspiration for that pic (whose presence on our wall upsets the missus no end, I can tell you!).

Unfortunately the movie's title is not something I care to repeat on this forum!!

I'll send anyone a PM of the pic, if they're interested.

A couple of 'cracking' pieces there Kenneth...
It must be awesome to own a Bisley piece.....Many collectors' grail pieces I suppose...
Thanks for posting...
Cheers...

Really liking the 'new' Bisley stuff by the way.....Although ( expects a kicking here ) not as much as I liked his Horned God stuff...  Yes, it's awesome and it's obvious he has 'moved on',  but it's a bit 'too extreme' for me.......I actually preferred his previous 'more sedate' stuff....
Sorry...... :'(

Cheers
Cheers Simeone,

Glad you like them! Three pages from the series adorn my living room wall and my twin has one in his house, whenever I visit it's almost the first thing I check!

I also agree with what you said; as good and fun as the new episode is, it's not quite as lovable (or lovingly created) as the Horned God....though it is on at least on a par with the last two episodes of that epic!!

In recognition of the great new Biz Slaine story in this week's prog, I thought I might as well put up a couple of Horned God pages from my collection that I haven't shown on this site yet.
Featuring the ladies Danu and Medb who are sadly absent (though mentioned) from the new episode.

Enjoy..

Prog 629 episode 4 page 6 (the first page of Slaine I ever saw, back in Science class in 1989, aged 12!)

Prog 696 episode 9 page 3

An ABC Warriors movie directed by Chris Cunningham (or me) could be pretty amazing.

Dark, gritty, techno in a 'lived-in' future setting....

I can picture it now!

Angela Kincaid .....

Actually, it's hard to argue with that logic...
I was reading an interview with Pat Mills last night, where he says that Angela Kinkaid's strip was the definitive Slaine comic, I agree, I do not believe that she was the definitive Slaine artist however...

That said, it's been amazing to see the original strip in all its glory, cheers again Dale!

Outstanding Dale! What a piece of history....and a lovely piece of work in it's own right.
There can't be many more important 2000ad pieces out there. Once again, congrats!

As a massive fan of both artists, I can't think of any direct 'swipes' in Horned God, I think Biz's later works (Death Dealer, Jaguar God) show more direct influence.
Images like Balor on the on the elk recall Frazetta's Death Dealer, but more in an 'armoured-demonic-badass-on his-steed' kind of way.

I can certainly think of a few direct swipes from that Bisley took from Sienkiewicz though...

After giving this some  thought and reading all these posts, I'm more convinced than ever that Simon Bisley is the definitive Slaine artist. After all, the earlier artists all had pretty unique takes on the character (okay I know Pugh's was like Fabry's), but after Horned God, everyone's, Fabry included, were in the Biz's mould.

Ps: I don't recall seeing that Sean Phillips pic before, it's got a very Irishy feel to it!! Cheers for posting.

Nah. If we are to define by the definition of definitive, then it is Bisley.....definitely.

I found Bisley on Slaine overrated: .... and the Earth Goddess was more or a biker chick then nymph.

Although I respect your opinion, I simply can't agree with this point. There's no way that my missus would allow me to keep this page on my living room wall if Danu looked like a 'Biker Chick'. I think his depiction of her, particularly in Book I, is very fey and Nymph-like (as are the nymphs  ;)).

Ps: I'm not sure that my friends would let me away with a biker-chick-pic hanging on my wall....purely as a result of the 'I'm Alan Partridge' association!!

pps: I must put this pic up on theoriginal art thread....
