General / Re: definitive slaine artist

Seeing Bisley's art on 'The Horned God' for the first time, had a similar effect on my young self as Monolith on those monkeys/apes in Kubrick's '2001'. it sent a jolt through me and everything changed that day.

It was the first time that I realised that the work I was looking at was actually created by an artist and not just rolled off some conveyer belt, like a lot of comic art seems to be...

For better or for worse(probably worse) it made me take my art seriously and pursue it as a career...

A lot of things have sullied the Biz's reputation since then, some unfairly, some self-inflicted, but for me, he is the definitive Slaine artist and I can't wait to see his new story!!

As I grew up and learned to appreciate art on many levels, I've come to adore McMahon's work on the series(especially Sky Chariots). The man is obviously a genius and has had a huge influence on me.

I'm a big admirer of Fabry also, but his women's lack of femininity (their blokeish faces) was always a bit of a turnoff. Number 3 for me.

So much great artwork over the last few days!
Amazing stuff guys!

I am particularly fond of the McMahon Deadlock cover....

Love the Cliff cover Dale, I agree with Skullmo that it is very Bolland-esque, which is obviously no bad thing!

Yeah, Rob McGinnis and Bob Peaket have to be two of my very favourite artists.

I actually remember that Dracula film from when I was a kid. Dracula AD 1972 or summink.
Full of hippies and Christopher Lee and whatnot.

Man, I used to live for Hammer Horror films when I was a younger....pity they're not on (terrestrial tv) that much anymore.  :(

Great stuff Dale.

Got my John Coopers from Mark today. Cheers fella. I haven't unpacked the Future Shock yet, but have gone through all the Armitage pages and this one really stood out.

I'm a huge, massive, huge, great big John Cooper fan - and I'm so chuffed to have some of his work.

The rest will go on CAF soon - possibly tonight if I get a chance. Better get on with unpacking the Future Shock, which will probably need to wait until the weekend before going up to CAF...
I don't know John Cooper, but this is some great artwork, I'll jave to check him out.

Something a bit different from me...the pencil & ink's of Kev Walkers 'Andy Warhol style' page from Anderson: Childhoods End.
One of my favorite Anderson stories, and a very memorable moment.
[/quote]These are great, love that story.
I had a few pages at one stage but only two remaining...

I don't really know the comic, but that's a really lovely Bolland page. Top.

This one was a real 'America' beater...

I've kept this for the Chris Halls/Cunningham work

My bro posted this up on comic art fans last night, so I may as well post it up on here!

I'm over the moon to have a Bisley cover from the 2000ad stable (from this period).
I only own 4 issues of Crisis (3 of those are the ones with  Biz covers!)

The strange the about this picture is how different it looks under different lights and times of day.

The scan on CAF is probably closer to it's actual state: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1022187&GSub=135095

Good to see there's a couple of Irish collector's knocking about, I'm in Shankill, just down the road from you presumably!!

Very nice Kenneth.
I really loved Emonds 'Dead Man's Curve' too (I've often contemplated building a throne out of beer cans since).
I've considered it too, but as they would be empty in about 2 hours I don't think it would support me....!

I met Garth Ennis at a preacher signing in Dublin and got him to sign that issue for me, he told me that, although he knows nothing about art, he reckoned '...that one turned out really nice'.

I agree.

Here's a couple of pages from the late, great Martin Emond. He never did all that much for 2000AD, his brilliant Chopper one-off 'Dead Man's Curve' and a couple of pinups are the only things I can think of. I can only imagine what his take on certain characters would have been like...

These are from my favourite comic of his the seminal 'White Trash' with Gordon Rennie.
