Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?
01 July, 2013, 09:58:29 AM
Just finished Nemesis (the Millar version, not "The Warlock"). I was confused by the ending - I'll detail why below:
So just who on earth was the Nemesis character. Was he, in fact, several rich playboys who enjoy dressing up as super-villans? Or the same chap, but funded by rich playboys? I mean, he did some high-tailing martial arts stuff to take down 100 cops and shot up a load of stuff and had all sorts of gadgets and gizmos - must be the same guy, right? And c'mon - leaving the bottle of wine 10 years before! That was just silly.
And it all just felt too unbelievable. I know the premise of many comics are fantastical, but the good ones have an air of credibility to them. This felt rather like my 9 year old writing a story, with the typical small child ending of him waking up at the end to find out it was all a dream... (That's not the end of the comic, BTW, I'm using it to illustrate a point).

Shame - because 5 sixths of the book are really great - it felt like an anti-Batman which was a great idea. Just let down by the end...

Just updated CAF with some more of John Cooper's Armitage artwork purchased from hippynumber1 who provides great service with great value. So for all your Armitage artwork needs, talk to The Hipster :)

I shall take the liberty of posting my favourite image of the batch. Again, it's from Tontine and that monkey is evil....

Does anyone else suffer from this debilitating condition?

Once, getting a blow job off a lass, i broke wind. Looking back on it now, i kinda smile at the whole thing.
Hope that helps.

Bloody hell, JJ! I've just had a coughing fit laughing at that. My 9 year old wants to know what's so funny

Right, Mardroid. As a person in the past who suffered from anxiety attacks (mainly as a teenager and mainly involving exams) I can sympathise with this. I get these little episodes sometimes. I'll clench a fist and grit my teeth or get butterflies in the belly. It passes. The trick is to push them straight out of your mind the moment they strike. Have a 2 second cringe, but then focus on thinking about something else. Something happy or just plain ordinary (what's for dinner is a classic!). If you let the memory play out, or take hold, it's much worse!

You won't be able to do it straight away, but practice it and it gets better... You'll soon have it down to a couple of seconds...

Hope that helps...

I put in a bid at £375 for one of the Dillons. Lovely pages.

Unlucky Smiffy. They were nice pages, that went for a bit more than I was expecting...

I've for a few things on" The Bay" at the mo - Blu Rays, DVDs, some Dredd comics and a 1980's A-Team playset, for those retro toy collectors amongst you. Seller ID = SimeonB. All proceeds to will eventually end up in the hands of Wake or Dale in exchange for bits of paper that people have scribbled on :)

I was in my local bookshop yesterday weighing the shrapnel in my pocket to see if it was enough to make a purchase when a spotty teenager stopped browsing the Marvels and went to browse The Dark Judges TPB.

"That's a great book" I interjected "I think you'd enjoy that"

The teen's Dad appeared and looked at it: "I remember that from the first time around". He took the book off his son, flicked through it then headed for the cash desk! Another returning Squaxx, perhaps...

By the way, the teen picked up a Walking Dead, which immediately killed my conversation with him and I went back to counting the bottle tops in my pocket (Waterstones don't take bottle tops, which blew my plans for purchasing From Hell). It got worse when the shop assistant declared she didn't really like Dredd 3D, preferring the Stallone version...

Um, there may have been a point to this post, but I've forgotten what it was with my mindless rambling...  On yes, I've remembered, TPBs are a great way for people to get back into the 2000AD world after the movie. It's how I got back into it, and it's a shame you can't get all the ones you want in the States, Brian

That is a lovely page, rogue69. Always like to hear the stories behind how pages are acquired too!

Barring any last minute hiccups, me and my lad should be in attendance Saturday morning and seeking a photo op with Judge Burdis and pals. :)

Did anyone here bag those B&W cover Progs? One went for a tenner, the other a fiver. Reasonably tidy sums, I guess... Perhaps the winners will colour them in themselves  :)

Assuming that's Holiday In Hell (Sci-fi Special 1980), then yes...

It's definitely Holiday in Hell. 2nd last frame references it.

Such a sweet snag, Dale  :)

Sauchie got there before me! Yeah, Thrill Power Overload pg 75 states:

"Moore had been scraping a living as a writer and illustrator for various publishers... Hi first work published by IPC was a one-off tale called Holiday in Hell in the 2000AD Sci-FI Special in 1980"

So I was slightly wrong in that it's not his first ever published work, but that published by IPC.

Still a break through piece. Still bloody brilliant and a fantastic snag. It's complete too.

Oooooo - well done Dale  :)
