We don't know what's going on behind the scenes - best to wait and see before jumping to conclusions.

You do know how the internet operates don't you?!

Dredd world surely be more inclined to stomp all over your three-stripe shoes.

Hm, Edwyn Collins does some shoe-gazing  :)
Loathed this for 30 secs..... and now it's lodged firmly. Like it, weirdly.

McCoy and Aldred were the Who of my childhood.  I totally adored Ace and she was definitely the reason I watched Who at that young age.  McCoy was pretty cool as well.

Nice way to make a person feel old...

Who of my childhood was Pertwee and Manning.

The culturally open-minded Bernard Manning meeting aliens every week is a show I *would* watch.

Don't get tripped up by the episode's being in the wrong order around parts  8 and 9 (I think?) of Firekind.
Sure, was ready for prog 834's switcheroo. Read it in daft order anyway. Since the lead character basically died (or near as damnit) it was fun to see him running around the jungle next week, no explanations. Nicely jarring  :)

Weird Fungus, I'm reading a lot of Ennis and Millars one offs from round then as well. Firekind is somethingelse....my opinion obviously. Z,

Well your opinion and most people's :)
Know I'm in a confuddled minority.

So, as far as the bog prog slog...

Reached prog 837 yesterday ('93), for me it's a *first* reading, I continued to buy & bag the prog for 3/4 years before conceding that buying it was getting ridiculous. Making up for that now.

Prog 837 is not shabby, and all 5 thrills are decent. Which is a bit of a surprise given popular opinion. Thinking about it, I can see the art is responsible for that. Dermot Power (Dredd), Simon Jacob (Armoured Gideon), Paul Marshall (Firekind), Ezquerra (Purgatory) and Ewins/McCarthy (Bad Company: Kano) all look great. With the exception of Milligan on Bad Company, none of the stories feel worthy of their art...  Lots of work for Ennis & Millar at the time, it seems. Firekind is the weird kid in the group, I like the ambition of it but John Smith's writing is a bit precious for my tastes.

Nailed it, Colin  :)  Not an easy theme to have fun with, but that'll do!

For what it's worth, I love Doombot's take on Mongrel & Lara. A popular storyline, is all  :)

Here's my rush-job entry, done tonight. Didn't want to miss the comp, y'see.
For me, Spikes Harvey Rotten was always likely. If you're covering dead characters, Spikes' heroic end in
Death Valley takes some beating. And the fact that Tweak foresaw it... just a great, great story.

Ta Otter.
Now then, better to wait for a shiny hardback? 'Cos if you want recent series collected, that seems the way to go.

Oh God, not the loft. This time of night?-)
Seems I have Minty's version, but the black booklet is news to me. Hm.
Joe's giant map, newsier still.

Best thing about this game: the Bolland/O'Neill/<dozen other> signatures on the box lid. 1982. Nice.

Watching the different approaches and styles was a real treat. Every one had merit but the winner was as near-as-dammit unanimous. Lovely work.

I think he was the Dusseldorfian (?) and I just thought 'Simon Coleby' when it appeared. Can't be bad.

Oh yeah, and this:-

90 seconds of sadness

From an obscure Justin Currie (of Del Amitri) album

Read criminally obscure. Top tunes and twisted lyrics across all his solo stuff.

There was a great comment from Geoff Darrow in the Future Shocks documentary that he often likes some actor/artist/musician, then finds out they are a 2000ad fan "and suddenly, it [their work] all makes perfect sense"

I also read that as Geof (sic) Darrow, but it appears more than once and it's definitely Barrow in the doc. So it's the Portishead guy, not the Hard-Boiled guy. Not that it matters   :o
