General / Re: Awesome Dredd Pic by Ryan Brown

Stunning, and simply done for fun too ?-)
Best thing on the Death pic is that moon, a simple idea but frames and lights the action perfectly.

Worst thing...(!).... would Dredd shoot Death? Not going to help, is it? Compare with Staples' similar image.

Cheers Huffster! Always nice to hear some feedback and for those of you out there yet to take the plunge, drop by the FQP table this weekend at Thought Bubble and you'll see for yourself why Dogbreath is just so darn awesome!

Fully intend to  :)  Hear only good things about these fanzines but yet to take the plunge...

It's a common complaint - and I'm nothing if not common - but the *nothing* ending of The Fall left a bad taste in the mouth. I can't even remember how it ended in series 1, just that it built nicely, then... just stopped. You can argue that expectations are being cleverly subverted, but it felt very unsatisfying.

Telly threads are among the most bonkers/interesting ones for me  :o

Right now, Gotham is the only show of this type I can bear and I genuinely enjoy it. There are galumphing great liberties taken (Jim & Barbara ??!!!) and realism is NOT promised as far as I can make out. As in the Batman comic (and the vast majority discussed on this board, it's not gritty realism).

Have tried SHIELD about 5 times (very samey and formulaic) and Dr Who perhaps 4 (emphatically a kids' show (not a criticism in itself - see Harry Potter) and self-important). Gotham - for the time being - is a bit of a fun romp.

There do seem to be a hysterical amount of collections appearing. All good though. So very many (old & new) trades, I pray they aren't available at Thought Bubble. May need another Bag For Life.

Disturbing.

And another top prog.

Dredd is another meaty read and looks perfect. The definitive Mega-City One for me, as Ron's seemed to be in the 80's.
Greysuit is OK, Kingdom gets badder and bad. That last panel raised a mangled smirk, at least  :-X

I can't separate the b & w thrills, both get 10/10. Highlights of Stickleback being Orlando singing in the bath, the dialogue, intrigue and the incomparable art.
Ichabod looks nicely realistic, suits the extra blacks this time. The character's expressions are subtle and wonderful, especially my favourite panel at the bottom of page 3. Expressions can make all the difference. Also, the horseshit gag and "I am not the law" (!) Terrific.

Shame to see Arnie on the cover, Higgins' superb colours just about save it :|

Idiots who think just because they own a BMW, or a Porsche think they can drive as badly as they wish, and take up two parking spaces as well.
Driving offences really need a whole thread   :o
Let's not break the internet earlier than necessary by starting one though...

I had. Now you have reminded me.
Thanks.

Yes, he has no clue about the subject matter. But it's the rudeness that's incredible - to tell Shanahan where he/Ireland are going wrong. Bizarre.

Is it too late to make it split at the middle so you can take it places?

Nice idea, however it looks like 'ol Dredd will weigh a ton when he's finished?

Looking forward to Tony Tubbs next.

Heh, I copied Alan Moore's Future Shocks at school.

Still not sold on Revere. I don't mind having to work at a story (prefer to, sometimes), but I seem to recall that Revere was the last thing that Smith wrote while on LSD, and it does show.

It's probably  that I struggle more with Simon Harrison's art than Smith's writing...

Agreeing with much of this.
Only adjustment was that a mate did the Alan Moore plagiarising (that "there was a knock at the door" last panel one) and it must have been a slow day because the teacher read the story in front of the class. I called him out on it afterwards. Delicious).

Meanwhile, reading Revere in old progs recently, neither the art nor story did anything for me. Could be the only thing of Smith I have got along with is New Statesmen. I loved that strip...

Completely agree on the importance of inky page-turning. I was about to suggest that history is against us and digital comics are inevitable, our physical collections are doomed.
But: took the good lady to an excellent gig on Friday and the artist was selling both CDs and vinyl albums afterwards. It gave me hope that sense may prevail on matters digital generally. Gatefold sleeves and real comics just make me happy...

I am rambling, but y'know, I mean it  :)

Welcome Ardath. And my habit fizzled out horribly mid-90s, I think a few of us fall onto that category. Understandably.

The comp remains one of my favourite things, thanks as always CFM for your work here.
Variety of styles and quality of the winners is just fantastic.
