Increasingly-surprising list.... until I noticed the 'non-superhero' qualifier...  :)

I was genuinely on the edge of myself with excitement at the prospect of every new Prog numbered from about 700-950, perhaps the definiton of 2000AD's supposed nadir

Yep, you have pretty much nailed my slog, 700-960 (+1000). It's not called a slog for nothing.
And it's not one I can avoid, in all conscience, since the majority of those (possibly vast majority...) are effectively unread.

So it's with minty-fresh confidence that I can add Tao de Moto and anything by Fleischer to this list. And while we're dissing the pretensions of some old strips, Hewligan's Haircut. Guff *

* It seems that around '91 the TPBs started coming out. On that very short list, Hewligan's Haircut. Why? I wonder if it sold...

Yes, yes, yes.

And it got the treatment in one of my favourite books too.

What a c**t. And what Colin said.

Haven't physically made one of the FCBD things. I know 2000AD especially does run out; is there
really no one-copy-per-customer rule enforced? I know that tweaks the nose of the spirit of the
whole thing, but....

Prog / Re: Prog 1879 - Arms Race

Cover Didn't even find myself wondering who painted this. Ugh. There seems to be a slight pun going on here (arm, "arms") but underwhelming. You can do clever things with colour schemes and design, but some vanishing point lines behind Dredd does not a background make. Only marginally preferred the old Austin covers shown.

Dredd  LOVED the Meg-weariness of Dredd in this. And hadn't recognised the Gibson-ness until it was mentioned. Page 2 is pure Gibson :) And however dark (and unfortunately topical) this tale proved, that single page balanced that with classic Wagner wit. Phil Collins on drums, too? Oh, by the end I was also thinking 'Death Aid', re-read that just a few weeks ago. Would Wagner explicitly revisit that Ennis story somehow - I doubt that.

Outlier  Some double-crossing goes on. I liked this more than recent parts but still found the first pages stilted and confusing. Not engaging.

Slaine  Action-packed. Sometimes I feel the writer's heart just isn't in this. Artist did say he was thrilled to get the Slaine gig and his emotions and layouts get 9/10.

Sinister Dexter  I'm with the haters on this. But live and let live (as the gun-sharks wouldn't say).

Jaegir  Continue to love the depth of this, and perfect art/colouring. I am completely fine that it wrapped up in smart fashion because (partly it returns in a few weeks to flesh out more and...) strips often outstay their welcome. See the Sinister Dexter storyline.

I must be getting old.

Not at all. You're getting younger.

See The Reversible Man.

Nice find  :)
NOT a digital fan but have registered and picked up an armful of things to try, mostly to see how I feel about digital in practice on the tablet (10"). Probably have highest hopes for Lazarus, Nowhere Men and Manhattan Projects.

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Sunshine

Managed about half the film. Then gave up. Deleted from hard disk.
Can't be sure it was the film's fault as I was recuperating from a hospital op. Hoped it would distract me, but despite early signs of promise it bored the stomm out of me after about an hour.
Life too short to stare at films that go nowhere.

The exhibition looks pretty good as does the list of related panels and talks including a 20000ad one on Monday 7th July which, shock horror, has not sold out yet.

7th July is the day after Glasgow Comic Con. Hardly practical. Shame.....
Last trip to that London wasn't anything so enticing.

No way on this good Earth is Quitely a real surname. That much was obvious.
Beyond that, it wasn't a thrusting pun of a pseudonym, so I always assumed it was just a bit lame.

For all that and the boundless variations in-between - even though it shouldn't - it works. Like 2000ad diversity of this forum is its greatest strength and the ability of the vast majority to put up with the vast majority even if it isn't their normal cuppa and give it a whirl and try new things... oh the things I've learnt on this forum... make it all quite super and lovely.

In violent agreement with Colin/8/Dan. This board seems an oasis of calm in an internet sea of angry drokkers... I'm not quite sure why that should be, but glad of it.

When I looked into it, the best I could find is that you could postpone it. I just took the 'get it over with' option rather than it crop up in the middle of something important.

It may depend on a case-by-case basis, or you can argue for a short case if you are a freelancer, especially with dependents.

Be careful with the "get it over with" approach.
a) It's not chickenpox, nothing to stop it recurring
b) The system "seems" to actively target "reliable" jurors, you might find yourself hearing many cases  :)

I realise these points together constitute slightly conflicting advice, m'lud, but in my defence it's mostly hearsay and I wouldn't trust any of it.
