For me, Ron joined Bolland and McMahon as a triumvirate of the definitive Dredd artists.

They way I have always looked at it there are four definitive Dredd artists: Bolland, McMahon, Ron Smith and Ezquerra.

Add Cam as No. 5 and you're on.

Although there's a strong case to be made for 'the moderns', Flint and MacNeil.

Your use of 'triumvirate' is telling, I think. An article in the first Dredd annual (perhaps second?) mentioned the triumvirate of Dredd artists (Smith/Bolland/McMahon). A wee cadet as I was at the time, had to look this up. Ezquerra only returned to Dredd for the Apocalypse War, of course. Later.

My proggage is missing from about '95 for about 17 years, so can't comment on the big picture. But would be interesting to see Dredd split into eras with associated 'key artists'. This kind of thing has probably already been done (and here).

Great to see, Davey & Steven. Seeing these is a big incentive to get sketching...

This is in danger of veering off-topic but I've never 'got' Arthur Ranson... (give me Ewins any day).
Didn't enjoy Shamballa on the 'slog' and with Button Man up shortly, I'm hoping the writing there converts me.
May be another 'not suited to comics' instance. Plus, the praise lavished on his art in the prog seems a bit excessive.

Just meant that collecting issues 1-4 as volume 1 explains why it lasted 4 only,
the usual story arc for IDW.

If the Music Police ever did roll up to my door and demand a socially acceptable answer to that question, I would tell them where to go.

The brilliant Brian Bolland's city is composed of generic sci-fi afterthought buildings and citizens wearing modern dress with added kneepads. Everything from vehicles to incidental characters are a hotch-potch of 20th century pop culture imagery and familiar sci-fi tropes. The architecture of Kennedy's MC1, its vehicles, and the citizens (and robots) who populate it, are so chunky and practical looking they're almost tangible.

Yep, all this. And Cam does it quite economically, really gets the anatomy & architecture without fail every single time. There are plenty of instances where McMahon/Ezquerra/Smith get their perspective or proportions just a bit too wonky too work. Consider this the faintest of criticism Cam: nothing springs to mind, he seems to nail everything that's asked of him...

I'm being sold on this Cam hardback; oversized invites you to pore over the artwork, as it should be.
