Welcome to the board / Re: Back after 35 years!

Definitely give 2073 a try. Then a couple more, see what you think.
My own Wilderness wasn't as long as 35 years but the feel of the modern day prog to the 'original' is pretty stark, I found. Dredd's the obvious point of comparison, and mostly it feels it's written for a different audience. Which of course it is...

1st Absalom
2nd Hope
3rd Brink

I'd happily read 5 b&w Thrills, too...
actually, some b&w Dredd would be nice - but unlikely.

I like a lot of Pat's work (and Defoe is one of my favourite recent-ish strips) but between Slaine, the Warriors, Savage and newer Defoe everything is blurring into book after book after book of not a lot happening very prettily. Good for filling progs, but not gripping for a reader.

Amen.
Hopefully Dredd this week will deliver - which it seems is the case... Read the preceding 3 progs today and it's a struggle to care.

Min. 2 years development, maybe more!
Don't rush these things!

The Al Ewing Collection ?-)
Hooray for the extension! Never doubted it...!

I expected garish colour  :)
Last Bisley I read (Horned God re-re-packaging assumed) was '13 Coins' and enjoyed his mad, distinctive style. Story was abysmal, unfortunately.

I'm a bad jumping-on prog from calling it quits. These always get trailed and it's nice to see anticipation of them, but the last 2 and their line-ups have left me thinking... 'oh'.

I adore Simon Davis' art, but Slaine and ABC Warriors have been ruined, now. Bad Company might have a twist (I'm weeks behind and not bothered) but it won't undo the whole.

It seems an objective slump, now. I'm no Tharg, but think a shake-up would/must help. Less quantity (constant reprints, collected editions, US reprints *), more quality. Some people buy only the prog!

* Commercially, obviously I don't know what I'm talking about.

PS. Mike White is fantastic in an unflashy way... His Tornado work in the recent Meg floppies reminded me just how appealing his style is, for me at least. Without being one of the 'big guns'.

Ah. The art is something I have meant to mention for a while. Despite knowing you guys are loving the prog's art, it often (in early podcasts, I'm way behind) doesn't get mentioned. The craziness, dialogue and characters get covered and I'll sometimes think 'What about the eye-popping Bolland art?!'. Maybe I'm more visual. Recently, the love for Carlos in Fiends and early SD shone through, so I've watched it change... And describing art is HARD of course  :) What can you say about McMahon's Dredd without getting repetitive?!

My favourite podcast!

That's inspired  :)
Very likely it occurred to them in a flash (no planning required) but in any case it's just perfect...

Pleased to see that the quote attributed to Tharg simply mentioned new creators, as it should be. Anything specifically marketed as 'all-female' - or 'all-male' for that matter - I doubt I would buy in the first place.

Prog / Re: Prog 2063 - Beelitz Blitz

2062 & 2063 together as I play catch-up. 1.5 of 5, Savage looks good and the Pennies From Heaven singing has thankfully gone. Brass Sun isn't terrible, Edginton can spin a tale.

ABC Warriors is pretty infuriating, there are multiple things wrong here, a real non-Thrill. Or perhaps the Space Spinner podcasts guys loved the initial run so much - I'm playing catch-up there too - that I can't help but compare with its nadir in the present day.

I'll stick around till the next jumping-on and see...

- it can be a bit of a slog finding catch up panels every four or five pages detailing the previous week's events when you've only just read that episode. Over a twenty part epic, I found this seemed to slow the story down.

There's a strong argument for dipping into the older tales, when they're collected. Never designed to be read all at once and it sullies your enjoyment to binge on entire stories. Not the comic's fault (and I accept this wasn't suggested).
Overall, I'm a fan of recap. It does no harm. How often do you pick up the prog and wonder what's going on...?
