"The First Time"

Yup, I wondered that too. It's chronological. No breaks for the main section at all; title page tees up the 3 strips and they run into each other. Note they started in different weeks, some smart Excel work (Si Spurrier I think, from the intro) to plan it out. And how well it paid off.

Family Man appears in the Trifecta Mega Collection issue - my favourite one so far.

It's fantastic, read this volume last week. The Family Man was an unexpected bonus. Didn't plan on buying any Mega Collections where I have the story but Trifecta is a justifiable exception. There may be more  :)

And still perilously off-topic...

Simon Davis -- Slaine, Brutania Chronicles
Ron Smith -- Get Ugly  (still flabbergasting)
Dave Gibbons -- original Rogue Trooper run
Belardinelli -- Ace Trucking Co (maybe)

Paper quality is like 1978 2000AD

As it should be. Looking forward to this hugely.

I'm in the middle of writing the first text novel in a series with Kevin O'Neill that could be described as a darkly humorous alternative history of UK comics publishing in the 1970s.

You always have interesting things to say, and with Mr O'Neill that's double-gold so I'll certainly look out for it.  What author name should we search for? (Not the butch Frank Sauchie, I'm sure!)  I'm imagining it with lots of footnotes in place of manifold hypertextual linkages.

I'd stick to 'Pat Mills'  :-[

I must say, whilst being a fan of Carroll, I'm SO sick of almost all Dredd stories being about Judges clashing with other Judges.

I like to see a bit more satire/social commentary centred around cits rather than endless power struggles within Justice Department.

That's fair, and possibly why recent Brit-Cit/Texas City conflicts haven't done much for me. Too many 'epics', less 'crazy citizen tales' recently. MC is perfectly up to delivering those, so hopefully they'll stage a comeback.

The current PJ tale is a big step in the right direction, though. Black humour worthy of TB Grover himself.

No great knowledge of Vaz's history, but he has always been among the most pompous and self-important oafs at Westminster. What a turn-up.

Found this to be car-crash television, I'm afraid. You've got the games themselves which feel perfunctory... then the banter. Tales of weekends sitting in your pants playing games isn't great telly.

But then, I'm not a gamer (since 1980-something).

Makes sense if it's a comic book convention, explains why it is/was little-known.

I did notice Dave Gibbons using 'crossbar' I's way back when, always just thought it was personal preference. Had no idea.

Nice one, Derek  :)
And you'd have earned Geek of the Week too, if not for that Judge Burdis mentioning something about pyjamas.

The idea that PJ becomes a DJ is delicious, to me. Wagner is of course possibly misdirecting readers with the 'black voice', but if this conversion does pan out, he will have fulfilled his 'major character death' promise too. While upping the ante further, losing none of the cast. Grud, this is a great story.

It sounds highly dubious. Paying for checks is their responsibilty, not yours. If that is no longer standard practice (I'm no expert) then that's a disgusting state of affairs.
