'Grud on a Greenie' I've always considered 'God on a greenback'. As in, God's features have appeared on my dollar bill (as opposed to Washington or Nightingale). As in, more commonly, Jesus' face has appeared on this morning's toast (to my surprise).

It's tenuous, I'd be surprised if anyone else took this meaning, and I don't care.

Dredd works on so many levels.

Hoped for some confirmation about the nature of that bucket & spade... I see Ritterstahl and TMO but can't be sure. Or think what clever gag I'm stoopidly missing. Possibly overthinking it.

Anyway: read it tonight and loved it. Unliked the reasonably filler Specials of old, the reworking of Robohunter and Ace have been fantastic recently. The one-off Dredd was a treat too.

Interesting thread, the frustration on the part of writers & artists is impressive to see.

I'm no comics guy, but having spent a few hours over last week and my weekend doing yet another "practical test" in my own time, I can empathise. Currently job-hunting and it's the third time I've been given "homework" of this kind after interview :-( The cheek! I suppose it finds out who's serious and offers a good comparison, but jeez I'm starting to resent it. It's like having 2 jobs.

Wee bit off-topic, sorry   :-[

The history of comics will be on at the Hunterian:

http://www.gla.ac.uk/hunterian/visit/exhibitions/exhibitionprogramme/comicinvention/#d.en.410343

'Taking us from the world's oldest comic to Donald Duck and Dr Dread, Comic Invention also reveals new material central to the history of comics.
Looking at the graphic narrative in its widest sense, the exhibition showcases treasures from The Hunterian and beyond, from the ancient Greeks to Hogarth and contemporary items.
Comic Invention also highlights a very important but little known work called The Glasgow Looking Glass of 1825 (pictured). Arguably the world's oldest comic, it predates titles like Punch by sixteen years.'

I just knew I'd miss this, and sure enough. Despite having a flyer pinned up for weeks so's I don't forget. What a clown.

Then today I get an email from BHP asking me to complete a survey "even if you didn't attend" (Eh?). I might have even done so if either of the links weren't broken.

I need to prioritise!

Hadrian's Wall, an Image series landing in September.
I lurved the creative team's C.O.W.L. and this hugely delayed book could be even better...?

Left-field sources of 'praise' is something I always enjoy seeing. This one's a beaut.

I finally got round to reading Wytches, one of the volumes I picked up from LSCC.

I've only read the first chapter so far, so its a bit too early to say I like it. I do quite like what I've read. If I had a complaint it would be that I would prefer a slower burn, if that makes sense.
Okay, it's already a slow burn, but I think the explosive stuff with the deer, and the reveal of the wytch girl in the tree at the end might have been better later.
But... I'm undecided on that.

Concerning Jock's art, I found I was not sure of it when I started reading, but ended up really liking it. This isn't the first time this has happened when regarding his art. What is it that causes me to react this way?  Maybe it's the fact the style is outside what I'm used to. Faces made of straight lines* etc. I think it's smashing now, so I do mean this assessment of the man's art to be complimentary.

*Thats Not quite right. He does draw curves, but I think you will understand what I mean. I think it might be what you guys mean when you describe art as 'scratchy'.

Wytches is terrific, both in scripting and art. I'm not a horror fan yet loved it. Gripping.

Jock's art is interesting, though I have little of it (guess I missed a productive period in the prog). Black Mirror is (still) on the read pile. The Dredd movie book is quite basic but elsewhere it's got that trick of appearing quick and rushed but I suspect it's far more considered. It's so powerful I imagine he spends much more time on it that you'd suspect, adjusting, adjusting... Maybe? Anyway, a top artist.

*Quickly checks his receipt* So it does; £3.50 for me too (also just noticed that only one copy of the Prog scanned too, so I appear to have gotten one for free... bonus I guess).

I don't think the bar code holds the price data. I think it just feeds the SKU to the till system which looks it up in a database that provides the price. Hopefully, it's a data entry error by WHS, who will have to swallow the 49p loss.

FWIW I've had to draw their attention to being overcharged on other items. It cuts both ways. Be vigilant! (What do you mean you don't always check your receipt...?)

Priced £3.99, scans as £3.50 at WH Smith self-service thingy. The Galaxy's Greatest Barcode.

It's overly dense for my taste and make no apology for contenting myself with art appreciation, when it became very experimental, a few issues in. That there was a more digestible follow-up makes sense, then. More a curio than a work of genius, I'd say. Nice  to look at in places.

Great line-up, looking forward to this. Especially the Weston poster, nice.

Yep, noticed the price hike and decided against today. Have enough copies of The Cursed Earth.

Just read #6, the Redondo issue. Bought it with low expectations and found the story.... just horrible, horrible. I'm at a complete loss as to what IDW is thinking of.

Aye, it was great catching up with everyone again- I tend to agree with Satanist that it somehow lacked the groove of previous years, and I was thinking it was perhaps the change of venue too.

There was talk of Fort William for next year...

there's one there on Oct this year with a Special guest star: http://www.fortcon.co.uk/colin-macneil/

Their website says they are putting on a convoy from Glasgow... Helltrekers apply now  ;)

I'm fairly certain Fungus agreed tae pick us up in Inverness...
:D

And have John Wagner's babies. And lots of other things. Crazy times.

I feel like Psi Judges might not get the standard 'ride out into the Cursed Earth' Hotdog Run. Rather something more... Exotic?

Well, this. It's not even their supernatural abilities, but do Psi judges go out on patrol, ever?

Anderson worked as a touchy-feely foil to Dredd in Judge Death, way back when. And through personal sacrifice, of course. Not something I've cared for since. Has a Psi judge ever fired a lawgiver?

Psi-Division is a hard sell, is all I'm saying.
