past imperfect

i'll vote for necrophim when we get around to the greatest premise tourney.

i've been determined not to vote on this tourney, sd never having really been my pot of tea.

but i'll break my principle right now to do my meagre bit - to try and flail and doubtless fail to prevent an absolute travesty happening.

RRRRRRRAAAAGGGGGEEEEEE!!!!!!

ladies and gentlemen, don't fight it feel it. as phil of macedon philosophically philosophied, 'what would be the point of holding out against the nature of man and of the universe itself?'
no point.
no philiping point.

er (wolfie smith?)
surely an anthology collection of rude, pointed horror from the early years would be really ace? including wolfie. but also, at a stretch, silo?

really happy to have cherry-picked some complete runs - abc, dante, slaine, brink - and to have missed out some more tedious 'thrills'. hoping for extension editions of blackhawk and disaster (the former has my favourite ever comics art, the latter is the best kind of super serious nonsense from that era).

I suppose it depends whether it's in their interest to inform us.

surely fomenting reader/collector excitement would be in a publisher's interests? *especially* in the comics world (the addiction to previews and other basically trade rags for example)?

the eaglemoss star trek graphic novel collection was so good. suddenly switching from fortnightly to weekly wasn't really acceptable, though. and falling just a few volumes short of publishing *everything* seems to have been as frustrating to the editors as it was to the collectors. the complete gold key reprint was an absolute treat, however.
my only real gripe with hachette is the much-mentioned failure to let us know what's coming up soon ...

philomena.
written, produced and starring steve coogan. and not a trace of partridge in sight.
really moving movie about the mother and baby orphanage and adoption scandal in ireland, but very prescient in terms of what we now know. coogan plays former newlabour spin doctor, martin sixsmith, with a brilliantly confused intelligence. judi dench is as perfect as ever - in that you always forget that she's judi dench. definitely worth a view, but full of triggers. only watch with someone on for a big chat afterwards.

enjoying both seasons of norse mythology from dark horse.
some of the best comic art i've seen in years.
at the risk of being cancelled by the world, i was once a big neil fan, but i'm finding his prose increasingly stodgy, overly knowing and twee. all sound and fury and cuteness. signifying nothing.
so here we have that rare beast, an adaptation that is actually so much better than the original.
imho.
