Thanks Jim. I couldn't quite remember when the Sci-if Special came out. But I do remember not being able to get hold of it at the time, so for me I didn't know what he looked like until he was shown a few episodes in.

It was only a couple of years later when I managed to get it.

So you know how we never saw Nemesis in the first few episodes of Book 1 and he was only revealed later? (In the Sci-fi Special IIRC.)

Well actually he was on the cover of Prog 222 all along - he is there in orange on the left hand side border. I had never noticed that until this morning - take a look in the "Your Favourite Prog Covers" thread.

It is amazing how you can look at stuff but not see it properly - literally for years.

Sorry don't understand the question.

After all, they are the same aren't they?

Nemesis is definitely one of my all time favourite thrills. It vies with Slaine for 3rd place probably.

I like to think pretty much nothing in the Prog can touch books 1,3 and 4. (Apart from possibly Warriors Dawn,  series 1 of ABC Warriors and Zenith Book 1).

I remember feeling a sense of loss at the end of Book 4. I really thought that would be it, but then they found a way to bring Torquemada back. And wasn't it great. Book 5, treads water a bit, relatively, but it all ramps up in Book 6. The scenes at the end of the world are just superb, especially the way Torquemada
gets the terminators on his side again.
I just love how Bryan Talbot got expressions out of Torquemada's mask.

Possibly unfairly I liked it less after that. I think it was a combination of the different settings and different artists. Before that it had a consistent feel, now the style seemed to change radically. I wasn't a big Hickleton fan, but can absolutely see his art has merit. It then seemed a bit of a hotch-potch after that. Which I am sure is extremely unfair on the likes of David Roach. And I freely admit that in Book 10 I had yet to realise how brilliant Henry Flint was  - it just seemed like some-one doing a Kev O'Neill impression.

It's Machine Learning - a fundamental part of AI (as per the state of the industry right now!)

And I loooove Deadworld - the only thing that grates slightly is the sarcastic bike computer (I mean ... why?)

That's one of the best bits about it IMHO!

Deadworld continues to tell us the world is dying and D'Erth and his chums kill em all... where's the suspense? what an I missing?

It's all gone a bit "walking dead"  - you know it's the apocalypse, but let's see how grim we can make the fight against the inevitable. It's about the journey, not the destination.

Which proves something I guess.

There are tales that you don't enjoy but which nonetheless leave some sort of lasting impression (e.g. for me the ones I listed earlier).

Then there are tales, which don't even make that sort of impression, and are just forgotten. For instance I have no memory whatsoever of Mother Earth.

... Blood of Satanus III, and I'm a little surprised that hasn't already warranted a mention in this thread!

Likewise American Reaper actually, given the vitriol it prompted here on the board each time it ran! I haven't read it though, so I can't comment personally.

There have been far, far worse strips than American Reaper in 2000AD and The Meg's history.

I thoroughly disagree. The worst of the worst, not a single scrap of originality, or passion, or worth in the entire venture.

GET OUT!

Classic Ace Trucking was fantastic. As was classic Wagner Grant Robo Hunter.

If all you have read is the recent stories in the specials... Well don't judge them on those....they aren't a patch on what they were.

Yeah, despite a long tradition of mixing dark humour with the SF and action, 2000 AD and the Meg don't have a great track record when it comes to out-and-out comedy stories.

At the risk of putting myself at odds with the board, I liked Dash Decent and Captain Klepp.

Thinking about it further, what about DR an Quinch! Got to be the ultimate comedy strip, surely?

Prog / Re: Prog 2023 - Punch It

Good strong start to this run of stories.

Given this is jumping on Prog, it was a shame it didn't have the higher quality paper for the cover we have had in recent years, but it's a minor quibble really.

Nice Dredd. As John Wagner has said current events are sure to be a rich source of satire. (Hasn't it always been though?)

Nice opening episodes for Brink and Scarlett Traces. I do like the little explanatory text boxes in Brink. They don't get in the way of the flow at all and avoid "who/ what where is that?" type questions. I really do think other strips could learn from this, yes I do mean you "The Ord..."...sorry let's move on from that shall we?

I even have a new appreciation for D'Israeli's art following the recent "From the Drawing Board " video and the panel he was on at the 40th ( with INJ Culbard and Ian Edington as it happens - and Rob Williams).

I even liked Deadworld.

The future shock was good, especially the art. Looks like the Thoughtbubble competition can provide a good source of new talent for the comic (see for instance what Tom Foster had to say about it at his 40th panel.)
