At some point drawing a silly pun turned into drawing a lot of hair. So much bloody hair.

I agree that the prog should be all ages and swearing-free but I think we're actually more prudish about swearing and nudity than people were in the 80s during the progs first golden age.

I recently watched The Goonies (1985) which is rated PG with my 8 year old son and there was a LOT of swearing.

We assume that swearing in comics will directly affect kids behaviour, but don't think the same applies to violence. The prog has always been extremely violent but we've not all turned into street fighting loons, if there had bee swearing I doubt it would have changed our language either.

Cal-Hab clash. I've run out of time, so it's unfinished (hence not tartan or much detailing in the perp).

Tough to choose, and interesting seeing them all as thumbnails which really emphasises which covers had punch.

1. 1925
2. 1915
3. 1946

I also loved Henry Flint's cover to prog 1947. He doesn't get given enough covers for my liking. Actually I'd happily see the whole prog drawn by him.

General / Re: The 2000AD Advent Calendar COMMENTS Thread!

Damn, I was looking in the wrong section on Barney! Thank you all for the kind words, I might work on a full set as some kind of animation for later next year. I made a start on Belardinelli but although the animation is easy the photoshop work takes ages to prep the illustrations. I definitely want to do Carlos and Brett.

Does anyone know out of interest, are all the droids (Spex, D.J.1 etc) based on real people?

Here's my contribution to the advent calendar. Not terribly festive I'm afraid, but I've been making animated gifs of the classic creator droid profiles drawn by Robin Smith. Turns out there were less of these than I'd imagined (couldn't find one for Mills, Wagner or Grant). Had planned to do a few more, but turned out to be quite time consuming.

Made these far too big and have shrunk them down so hopefully they'll load...

Another vote in favour.

Personally although I enjoyed Dark Justice, Dreams is far more interesting and each episode leaves me wanting to know more about their world. I would love to see it return in a year or so for another run.

Um... I got in through the slush pile. Had been writing professionally for a good few years previously, but the Prog was my first pro creative gig. Had nowt else to my name at that point beyond lots of movie journalism.

Done a pretty exhaustive blog about it, if'n you're interested, Nic... http://alecworley.weebly.com/blog/my-future-shock-hell-breaking-into-2000-ad-and-what-i-learned-while-doing-it

Alec, I did indeed read you're fantastic article about breaking into 2000ad, and I had my second script ready and a list of ideas for the rest ready and waiting for the initial rejection, but even with nearly a year and a half between rejections I'd be a very old man before one got picked up.

I was just submitting for a bit of fun, I'd love to contribute to the prog and quite frankly I'd do it for free, but it's never going to be a serious change of career.

What I find staggering is that not only did I get a reply, but 2000ad staff and contributors have taken the time to come on here and offer their advice. What a wonderful community of generous people.
