Books & Comics / Re: Shift Comic - new UK anthology
10 September, 2021, 09:50:23 AM
I'm interested to know how the creators get paid for their strips. The majority have seen print somewhere before, so are GMC licensing them to run or are the creators just letting them have at it, with a portion of the sales profits heading their way afterwards? Maybe a bit of both.

I imagine Scott Morse being quite happy for his decades-old strip to generate new cash for him with little effort. Actually, I hope they look at his other work afterwards.

Mark Waid was only talking about Empire on Word Balloon the other day. The rights have reverted to them. It will be the most mainstream strip SHIFT has run to my eye.

Shift have just announced on facebook that they will be running a new Empire story by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson in 2022
Is it new or are they just running the original issues? Sorry just been and looked... hopefully they'll run the original stuff first. I've never read it.

Great cover. I like the Slaine era scratchy blacks. Almost thought it was John McCrea from the crop in the Thrillmail. Is the thing in his left hand an umbrella, a walking stick or just his daystick with some kind of zapper on the end?

Yup got my copy. Really good Dredd short, with quality backups (which obv I have already). Was it worth spending £3.99? The completist in me knows I must.

No one selling this year's FCBD on eBay yet other than US sellers. Assume then it is one of the ones yet to make it to LCS's??

Anyone had Red Seas volume 4? It's been advertised on the back on the last couple of progs, but it's not up on Hachette's website yet (or Forbidden Planet). It'd be maddening to miss it.
In case you've missed it, now on the hachette site

2000 AD: The Ultimate Collection
Hey,
Unfortunately we're unable to publish a list of any other issues yet.
Apologies for any inconveniences caused!

Don't think that tells us anything we didn't already know sadly.

My pleas for nothing :(

Necropost! New newsletter from Pat says he is just coming to the end of writing "KISS MY AXE! The Secret History of Slaine the Warped Warrior" (and then moving on to Spacewarp 2).

I expect this will dish the dirt on why that final Slaine epic took so long to come out!

Pat has been interviewed on John Siuntres' WordBalloon podcast. Not listened yet but link is here

QuoteThe Dean Of British Sci-Fi has started SpaceWarp an incredible Sci-Fi Anthology . WE discuss the features within, and talk about the current British comics scene along with looking back at his 2000AD comics, a healthy look at the twisted "mean girls" history of Girls British comics , plus Pat teases some new projects comic this fall.
