Because Neflix/prime are trash
All media is not trash.
Well, yes, they're trash. All media is essentially trash from Hollywood to Youtube, from novels to music. A high percentage of their content is mediocre at best, with a bit of decent stuff and a pinch of great stuff to make sifting through all the shite worthwhile, if not financially efficient. That seems to be more or less how everything within the fields of human endeavour work; produce as much as possible in the hopes that a sufficient portion will prove profitable enough to offset the losses incurred by the shite. For us peasants, living in sheds and with limited means available to contribute much to this ongoing experiment, other methods of accessing culture are necessary.  *cough*P1R4T3B4Y*cough*

Quote from: judgeurko on 29 April, 2024, 02:24:22 PMYes, if it wants to compete with Marvel, Star Wars etc. A big budget for a niche IP.

It's nothing to do with competing with Marvel or Star Wars, it's having a product that one of the major streamers will want to carry. Doesn't matter if it's Netflix, Prime, Paramount, Disney+ or Apple TV, they're not going to look at a genre series like this if it's been made on a shoestring.
Yes it is, naive to think otherwise. The major streamers will look at the stuff 2000AD are trying to do in comparison to what is on other streaming services, Marvel & Star Wars for example. Products don't exist in a vacuum so it does play a part.

This was great, 2000AD listen to him if you want to survive.

Quote from: The Legendary Shark on 27 April, 2024, 04:50:02 PMI guess there are things like petitioning arts funding organisations for help financing the project or starting some sort of "We Want Dredd" campaign but I'm not sure there would be enough interest.

It's not about the level of interest, it's literally about the insane amount of money required. Minimum table stakes for this sort of thing on a major streaming service is $10 million per episode.

For something like a Dredd TV series, which is going to require purpose-built sets and FX elements for pretty much every shot, I suspect we'd be waaaay over a $100M budget for an 8-10 episode season.

My gut feeling is you'd be talking about $250M for a full season. This, based on a property that didn't make its money back on a $50M movie...? That's a tough sell.
Yes, if it wants to compete with Marvel, Star Wars etc. A big budget for a niche IP. If Rogue Tropper somehow does really well financially then maybe.

I will never accept.

I prompted the AI thusly: "Bodie and Doyle from The Professionals, but both dressed up as a Judge from the world of Judge Dredd."

And it did this:

(Or did I just take a photo at Dounreay-Con?)
AI can go to hell

Quote from: AlexF on 23 April, 2024, 11:31:13 AMThis is a genuinely great interview, Mark Millar is one of those enthusiastic chaps who wants to be liked so much he puts people at ease which works well for Pat Mills. Much as I don't love Millar's comics his energy and passion for making popular comics is joyful. Same for Mills, who clearly still wants to find ways to reach a mass audience with whatever kinds of comics he can. He may be a world class moaner but he's also not JUST moaning, he's still following his dreams, too.
I agree, not a fan of Millar's work but he has an enthusiasm which is good for an interviewer.

Its a nice idea to have a themed special, but nothing here really interests me apart from the Judge Alpha one.

Basically, this. Jesus, Urko, how many times does someone need to tell you: "When there's something to say, you'll hear about it"...?
thanks
