I always find it surprising how quiet this thread is, given the interest in the series.
Has no one received their books or just have nothing to say?

I think at this point, there is a small flurry of regular activity when new books come out, then it dies down for a couple weeks until the next flurry. The issue is that we have discussed the contents of the collection to death, and know exactly what's coming up for the most part, so there's very little to discuss beyond opinions of the latest story, and that can turn into a shit-flinging contest very easily for more diversive books, or just a love-in for adored stories.

Just wait until the new Hachette series (hopefully) goes national. Then we'll be discussing the ins and outs of that series, and what could possibly be coming up.

That all said; here's an opinion on a book.
I finally read Wilderlands after much umming and ahhing over it, and was pleasantly surprised by the whole affair. I presume it works better collected than it did on release, but I enjoyed it.

Prog / Re: Prog 2024 - Meet Harvey
25 March, 2017, 06:06:45 PM
So, overall, enjoyed the Prog much more this week than last.

Scarlet Traces is an intriguing little strip, considering I haven't touched the series before now. This second episode was easier to pick up, and makes me want to track down the earlier books. Might be a trip to the comic shop next week... (though I did promise not to buy any more 2000AD Graphic Novels until the new Hachette collection is confirmed or denied, this looks like a promising series)

Brink may just not be for me. I do tend to have a hit/miss relationship with Abnett's writing, sometimes adoring it and sometimes just not clicking at all. I will give this series a solid chance, but it's not won me over yet.

The FutureShock is... well, my comments on that are in the previous post. I like McConville but there's something about this particular strip that didn't sit right.

Deadworld is fascinating. I love the Dark Judges anyway, so exploring their world a bit more is a fun time. Definitely excited to see where this second series goes, and to pick up the first series at some point.

And then to the jewel of the Prog - HARVEY.

I love Dredd, I love Mechanismo, I love Johns Wagner and McCrea, and this does not disappoint. After last week's cracking one-shot, it's good to get something with a bit more meat to it, and I am interested to see how Wagner uses the Mechanismo differently than he has before. It is very easy to fall into the conceits of the concept, so here's to a (hopefully) fantastic story.

Prog / Re: Prog 2024 - Meet Harvey

Not finished the Prog yet (I read it in a weird order, picking and choosing stories) but this week I started with the Future Shock and... didn't get it? Is it just me, or was it very unclear, narratively-speaking? I understood the broader strokes of it, but it feels like a much larger concept that was forced into 4 pages.

Just been watching some gameplay from the original and now I am ridiculously excited to pick this up...

A friend of mine picked up the Slaine book in his local newsagents the other day and posted it on to me after he read it, and it's a thing of beauty. Honest to god, I really hope this collection goes national - perhaps mores than the Dredd collection. An 80-book library of stories of this calibre would truly be a sight to behold. And the actual quality of the book is top-notch.

Overall, really looking forward to getting my hands on the rest of the test issues, and then - hopefully - the national release.

Prog / Re: Prog 2023 - Punch It

The new run of stories begins and it hasn't immediately entranced me the same way the last lot did. Though that may come from my not having read any prior Scarlet Traces. Or Deadworld. Or Brink...

Yeah maybe the Prog isn't aimed at me at the moment.

The Tour of Duty release order has completely thrown me. I've had the first (second?) ToD book for months now, but not read it because the second (first?) volume isn't in the collection yet.

It's baffling to me.

Quote from: Rately on 15 March, 2017, 09:47:10 AMI loved Cradlegrave. Picked it up during a FP sale. Has there ever been a sequel to the original?
Nope. John Smith's hardly the fastest of writers, sadly.

There's some possibility they won't, or they'll only send the first book. I recall one of these partworks (possibly Transformers) ended up with subs getting letters very rapidly that the entire test thing was done and they'd be contacted if and when it went to full series.

That would be a shame. Here's hoping that's not the case.

Trifecta is the obvious one, split between Al Ewing, Rob Williams (Lowlife writer) and Si Spurrier. Dirty Frank is a major character in this.

Would really need to read the Simping Detective first as well.

Did those after finishing the Low Life stuff. Simping Detective is fantastic as well.

I think I just really really like the concept of Wally Judges.

So as I continue my journey through my (now thus far complete) mega collection, I have realised that the Low Life books are my favourite comics, probably ever. Can I get some recommendations for anything else that is the same sort of thing within the Mega Collection? Just tried to get into Heavy Metal Dredd, but I clearly am not in the mood for it right now, so would welcome something more Low Life-y.

We'll not get me started on mY postie's treatment of the Prog...

(Bent over and left in the letterbox, half sticking out. Every week. Without fail.)

Has anyone heard confirmation of subscription yet? It said 3 days, but I've got nothing yet haha

I received confirmation twice. Once on originally subscribing and then a further email just now with a subscription number.

Yeah I literally just got the same thing, confirming what comes with what delivery and prices etc + giving me a subscriber number. Exciting times now
