I've loved Tribal Memories for decades. Back in the day there was that magnificent, chunky, 'Best of 2000AD Special' that was packed full of top-quality thrills. The Complete Tribal Memories was in that, and didn't seem.out of place. That issue is something I dig out on a fairly regular basis to reread, and I've bought multiple copies over the years for friends when they've asked me to show them why 2000AD is worth reading. If I were forced to grab *one comic* in a life or death emergency, it would probably be that one.

But, Megatropolis was spectacular. And that particular period of the Meg was the best the comic has ever been. So, Megatropolis gets it for me.

SBT

That Best of issue you mention is a real celebration isn't it? I'd had a couple of years away from 2000ad at that point and saw it on the shelf one day and what an absolute treat that was. Just a great collection and yes Tribal Memories fit in perfectly.

Anyway. I like Megatropolis but I find the alternaDredd conceit is my least favourite thing about it. Spotting an old character in an unfamiliar role becomes a bit of a hollow point of interest for me, but I'm enjoying the story and art plenty and I do like the two leads.

However, think I'm going Tribal Memories this time.

Does anyone else think Joko-Jargo has no personality? There's an ad in the latest issue where he's proclaiming 'I bring only the best to you from across the universe, young earthlets'. He's just got the same speech patterns as Tharg! Doesn't he have any cool betelgusian youth slang at least?

Ooh, tough one this. I'd like complete collections of both of these please Tharg. Not read either for many years. Need to dwell on this choice for a bit.

Max Normal although I do agree I prefer him in a supporting role.

Agree on the Ranson stuff. Half-Life is brilliant.

How are people storing their books? After reading, I've just been putting them vertically on my shelves (what I consider "normal"), but I've just gone back to start re-reading them and I've found that all the skinnier volumes (10ish+) have all developed an extreme bend due to the spines being thicker and more rigid than the other side of the books (the opening side). Looks like, although they appear to be wedged straight on the shelves when viewed from the front (spines out), the opening sides of the books (at the back of the shelf) aren't rigid enough to support the weight of the books, and they flop to one side or the other and thus develop the bend. Has anyone else noticed this and have any tips for trying to flatten the books out again?

Yep, mine are the same, going all bendy. I tried inserting card between them at the back of the shelf but not sure it made much difference. Then I forgot and stopped doing that so... yep, all bendy.

Who knows how or if Mayflies will develop, but for now it's Ant Wars.

I like Hope a lot, but am a bigger fan of Leatherjack.

Shakara. A mind blowing classic. I loved how it took so long to reveal its secrets. Robot dinosaurs? A planet turned into a space ship? The last human absentmindedly murdered on page 3? Yes please! I may be misremembering this, but I'm sure there was an all time classic run of Shakara, Kingdom, Dante, Stront and Dredd at one point. Absolute perfection.

SSR pretty good, mind. Sorry it's going out.

Ooft, what a line up!
