Prog / Re: Prog 2136 - Last Chance To Shine!

A very good prog again.....

Dredd – Great Dredd story by the Niemand droid. Staz provides us with some great visuals especially the last page.

Thistlebone – The story continues to intrigue, and this can become one of those instant classic thrills.

Scarlet Traces – Now we move scenery and actors again as the story settles on the moon. The story is still brilliant, as we all must keep track of who and where.

Absalom – Another ten-pager with a full action introduction. As we start gasping for air the premise is set for the rest of series. Great to see the series return knowing that this is the last.

Agree on Anderson, Dredd I do not have a specific candidate. I like the fact that multiple people contribute to Dredd.

Whereas 335 was in orbit about a month after I bought my first ever prog!  Funnily enough I didn't take to Bryan Talbot first time I saw his artwork, largely because I'd been looking forward to more Book III-style O'Neill :-/

Luckily I saw sense by the time Luther Arkwright began its Valkyrie run (the one where it actually got completed).

It is always interesting to note that in most cases your first experience with an artist on character is how you will define that character.  Nemesis for me is Talbot whereas Slaine will be Fabry and Rogue will be Cam.

I was first introduced to the world of Nemesis when Bryan Talbot was on art duty thus my reason why I preferred the later books of Nemesis to the early work of O'Neil (his work is still awesome). For me Talbot is the de facto Nemesis artist. I also felt reading the early books afterwards that Book 3 just did not feel as strong.

Lettering is one of those things I never really appreciated until I start reading this blog and start releasing that it is an art on its own. A strip can be nullified by bad lettering.

STAR TREK II: The Wrath of Khan.

Practically perfect in every way. It was a Director's cut which has a few extra scenes and some extended ones.  Most of which work though I don't remember Bones being quite so harsh to Spock in the original cut (he uses  very strong "You green-blooded inhuman etc." insults which seemed a bit harsh given how long they've been the holy trinity but as my memory is failing, I can't remember if these were always there or additional).

What amazes me is that I always remember it as being more action packed than it is; there are only two big set pieces in the whole thing; both space battles but both are so brilliantly paced with clear stakes laid out that they seem much more.

This is one of my favorite Trekkie movies. What is interesting of this movie is that the director Nicholas Meyer has never seen an episode of  Start Trek.

Krakajac the specials are only available to be purchased on the day of the release, which is the 19th of June. Currently you can only buy the bundle or the items already released from the bundle. So it is case of having to wait.

I've only had time to read Dredd so far, but that is a hell of an opening episode. More from the Kenny droid please.

Niemand?

From Staz Johnson's twitter "it contains the first episode of the Dredd story 'The Samaritan' by Kenneth Niemand, Chris Blythe & yours truly."

At Enniskillen, Wagner suggested Colin MacNeil or Simon Coleby could join him on Spector, presumably because of their experience drawing Wagner strips with heroes who set off the metal detector at airports.

Which would you prefer?

Both of them are a good choices. If you want more gritty art, Coleby will do.

I am Monter was a good sci-fi tale. The beauty for me was that we only saw two and a half humans in the whole story.

It makes it interesting to have  the different styles and interpretations of Dredd. I cannot really fault Miranda's work here.
