Prog / How did Death actually escape....?

No not in My Name Is Death but Death Trap.

Although lets hope John explains that one too!

The thing is, in Death Trap the robo warden 1138 says, and I quote:
"Round the clock robo judge warders, state of the art locking systems and laser defense grids."

Yet when the truck full of hi ex, hits Iso block 99, only one robo judge survives! What happened to the others?
They can't all have been destroyed!
We dont hear any of the other robots before the collision either!

I think that's the only bit of the story that doesn't gel. Death escapes too easy. The laser grid isn't used as well. I know part of the block was blown up but still. I think there would be real judges posted to the block as well, as a second line of defence.

Dave, I also think you should put more action in any new Dredd cd. They still seem to be too dialogue driven. I know it's an audio cd but I would like to see more action. A Dredd story about some serial killer. Use parts of the city. Dredd has to hunt him down. Maybe done 100% serious without any humour.

Dredd on his own without Steel. I think she isn't needed in every Dredd adventure.

Hmmm. Maybe I should write one...

Could be.

Dredd and Death doing a stand up act could be interesesting. A bit like Little and Large but not as funny:P

Everyone get Death Trap so you can hear Deathy!

I really do like the voice. There's one line where Death says...

"And there's nothing you can do to stop me!"

...that is genuinely scary.

Oooerrr!!!!

Other Reviews / Re: New Death CD

Well I liked it!

I must admit I adore Dredd's voice when Toby plays him calm, (as I mentioned in my review thread) but I imagine Dredd to be a little bit more cool.

Toby's Dredd is perhaps a little too pent up for my liking. Perhaps Dredd really should sound like Clint Eastwood after all...

Note to any actor playing Dredd, make him act and sound cool under fire.

Judge Death: I liked him. Sounds more like Judge Trippy Hippy to me but once you get used to it, Mark is very good.

(Have you noticed I am repeating my earlier thread?)

SO R  E   A   D where M  Y was  S C  R I  P T  I?

Ah yes. I preferred this story to the first one!
Oh well we all have different tastes, I guess.
Loved Walter the robot. Oh by the way I believe Judge Stallone actually makes a very brief cameo. Listen out for it. It concerns stairs!

Yes Dredd Reckoning by me, scojo is up on the fan input page.

Mega thanks to Wake and Rebellion
xxxxxxxx

Go to fans input and see the link at bottom.

Yes, the time has finally come and you can decide if I have written a great Dredd script or I'm full of hot air!

I rate it as one of my best scripts and feel it would make for a wonderful film.

If you want to give me any feedback, email me.
Even those that dislike me, can email me too!

There are a few instances where there isn't a break in between dialogue. This was because I had to paste it from Final Draft software to an email. I then had widen it all! Bit of a nightmare and I may have missed a few spaces.

It should be:

Dredd
I am the law.

Hershey
I am the law.

But sometimes there is no space:

Dredd
I am the law.
Hershey
I am the law.

Sorry about that!

As you read it, think of it in pictures as it's meant to be a Dredd film not a comic!

So the curtain is rising...the lights are coming down... the screen is extending...that annoying kid in the row in front is playing about...the popcorn is in your hands...forget that other film...

Here comes the real Judge Dredd.

Enjoy.

Actually if you do read it all, you may see the odd line where the full stop appears on the next line.

Cos I pressed space too early. And for some reason the first mention of The Cursed Earth is The Curse Earth.

Could have sworn that typo wasn't there before...

When I post my second script, I will make sure all the spaces are done when I stretch the email.
You see the script should really be read in 'finaldraft' format. That way you get all the dialogue in the middle of the page and all the correct spaces.

No more or I will get in trouble!

EXT. GLENN MILLER BLOCK - DAY
From a high tech binocular's pov (point of view), a mega roadliner on a megway. The vehicle is huge with company name on it. Called - "Dependable Inc. You can rely on us!"

Pan up on a high block. Show name of block on side. Onto a wide balcony overlooking the magnificent city.

Onto a MAN standing on balcony with a helmet obscuring much of his face. He's holding the binoculars to his eyes, watching the roadliner's journey.

He lowers his arm and looks to three other MEN also wearing helmets. They are dressed like him, in leather padded clothing. He nods at the men.

In their hands they hold a small joystick with a lead connected to a rocket pack on their backs. They activate the joystick control and the men blast off from balcony into the sky.

EXT. SAL'S SALOON - SHOPLEX - DAY
Establishing shot of a shoplex selling automobiles.

INT. SAL'S SALOON - DAY
A large store full of brand new two seater roadsters, four and six seater saloons etc. Very expensive range of vehicles. Punters are looking at vehicles.

A SALES ASSISTANT is showing a potential BUYER (male) around. The potential buyer looks fairly smart. He looks at a particularly fine saloon.

MAN
(shaking head)
No, it's just not right.

SALES ASSISTANT
(pointing to another car)
How about the blue sir. Very much in vogue this year. Notice the anti grav unit too. All inclusive with the price I might add.

MAN
Mmm.

SALES ASSISTANT
(sighs in mild irritation)
Let's start again then, shall we?

EXT. SKY - DAY
The four jetpackers flying though the city avoiding flying hover vehicles. They weave in between the towering city blocks.

EXT. BUSBY BERKELEY MEGWAY - DAY
The roadliner races along through the complicated network of megaways. Roadliner passes a sign reading - "Slow driving prohibited. Keep to your lane."

The four jetpackers see the roadliner and swoop down towards it. They power down their jetpack engines, turn on their retros and land on roadliner's roof.

In a roadster  in a lane opposite, a family. MOM, DAD (driving) and in the back, their ten year old son, CHUCK. He's sucking on some sweets. He looks out of the window and watches the masked men land on roadliner.

CHUCK
Hey look, flying men!

MOM
Oh do be quiet Chuck!

DAD
Where that boy gets his imagination from I will never know.

MOM
Yes dear.

The men crouch on roadliner roof, then slowly approach the front of the truck. Boy in the roadster continues to look on.

INT. ROADLINER CABIN - DAY
A male TRUCKER in 40's in company uniform. Next to him a small ROBOT, friendly in design. The robot's name is Charlie, typed on his front casing. The roadliner's radio is on quietly.

TRUCKER
Sure don't make 'em like they used to.

ROBOT
Nope.

TRUCKER
Back in my time we had real music. Something you could dance to.

ROBOT
Yep.

TRUCKER
The music in the year 2101 was sensational. Not this modern garbage.

ROBOT
I wasn't built then sir.

TRUCKER
Mmm, guess not.

The men climb down either side of the vehicle, holding on tight. The lead jetpacker (named #1) takes out a menacing gun. Jetpackers#2 and #3 also draw weapons.

TRUCKER (CONT'D)
Ever heard of Elvis, Charlie?

ROBOT
You mean Elvis the War droid, from sector 14's robot championship? He's my idol.

TRUCKER
Not quite.

Jetpacker#1 leans across and shoots the plas-glass door window next to Charlie. It smashes apart.

ROBOT
Sir, intruder! Switching to defense mode!

Charlie tries to protect his master by hitting out at the assailant but jetpacker#1 fires his gun. The robot takes a direct hit and is short circuited.

TRUCKER
Charlie! No!

Jetpacker#1 opens the door from the inside handle and enters. He points gun directly at the trucker.

JETPACKER#1
Drive.

Rest will be up on the fan site i hope!

Well Jason K, CEO Boss of Rebellion, hasn't read it yet! After 4 months of begging him to read it, I gave up!:)

So I thought I'd post the whole thing on the site. So there.

It's only 122 pages long!

If it does go up on the fan section, you don't have to read it! Or you can read it in bits.

Or not at all.:)

Dredd revs the bike's Notron 4000 V8 Kt23 engine with asb quadruple carburretors. Dredd takes a small remote control from his belt. Points it a large black door directly in front of him. Presses a button on remote and door opens.

Natural light pours into the room. He presses another button on remote and the lowered platform moves forward, taking the bike along with it. It stops at the door's entrance. The rear of the platform rises up so the bike is titled forward.

Dredd revs the bike harder and harder. On Dredd's helmet, his visor. Close on area where his eyes are. Dredd accelerates out of the room at tremendous speed. The door closes automatically behind him.

EXT. ROWDY YATES CONAPTS - JUDGES' ZIPSTRIP - MEGA CITY ONE - DAY
On Dredd from behind and side, racing down the small road called a zipstrip, leading from the bike pool. View of Rowdy Yates Conapts from exterior. Name is visible on block. The zipstrip extends from mid level of the huge Mega block, hundreds of feet above ground level. Shot above or behind Dredd, showing the first glimpse of the Mega City. The zipstrip is connected to major road arteries and adjacent blocks.

EXT. MEGA CITY ONE - DAY
Pan away from Dredd on bike to see the city in all its glory. The city is a vast concrete landscape of towering blocks, rising hundreds of feet into the air. The blocks are connected by hundreds of roadways at low, mid and high level. Hover vehicles dominate the sky, racing back and forth. The city is a masterpiece of future aesthetic design. Pan through on to:

EXT. ZOOM TRAIN - DAY
A zoom tube train racing along line, intersecting through blocks to zoom station.

EXT. THOMAS EDISON ZOOM TUBE STATION - SECTOR 18 - DAY
The zoom tube train arrives at the large station. A sign reads - "Thomas Edison Sector 18." Passengers depart from the train on mass. Others get on.  Focus and track onto a man in his 40's holding a briefcase, leaving train and walking along platform.
Focus on a large sign, a huge happy smile. It reads - "Good Morning Mega City One. Rise and shine. It's July 21 2125. A smile a day keeps the judges at bay! Sponsored by the Happy society."

Two JUVES (teenagers or young adults) standing by a wall. One juve looks at the man, taps the other juve's shoulder and points to the man. The other juve nods his head. They begin to follow man out from the platform, through station to the exit. Leads directly into:

EXT. SECTOR I8 - ERNEST HEMMINGWAY SHOPPERA COMPLEX - DAY
Shoppera complex separated by a busy multi lane skedway. Shops, businesses spread out miles in either end. The shops have huge neon signs advertising such products/company names as: "Otto Sump's Putrid Perfume Parlour, Robots R Us and Mega City Munceburgers - The Burgers 100% synthi-meat free!"

The pedways (sidewalks) full of Mega City One's citizens going about their daily lives. Some pedways (also known as slidewalks) are automatic allowing the citizens to stand still and be moved along. The citizens wear the latest in Mega City One fashion. A thriving crowd of humanity.

The man steps out from the station into the city beyond. Above him is a huge neon sign. An image of a judge's helmet is being shown. Below it the words - "The Judges are watching you. Respect the law." It flashes this message continuously.

All around are smaller signs, such as: "Robodogs must be on leads all the time, No spitting, No littering, No loitering, No parking etc." The sheer number of warnings, orders etc is overwhelming. The man begins to disappear into the melee of citizenry. The juves follow him.

Spoiler Free!

First thing to say is it's better than Wanted Dredd Or Alive. First one was okay but I didn't rate the bad girl. Bit too wimpy I thought.

This one plays more like a proper Dredd tale. It's both serious and comedic in places. Mrs Gunderson and Walter provide most of the comic relief. Although there's not a red nose in sight.

Walter is funny. Sounds like a New York comic! Judge Death is quite good. Calm and spooky. May surprise some I reckon. Doesn't quite go with Death's skull face but still good.

Shame Anderson wasn't in it. Steel's fine but Cassy would have been better. There are a few news breaks at the beginning but thankfully they calm down later.

News breaks are effective for storytelling purposes but I'd prefer a story without them. Sometimes they break up the natural narrative flow.

The story?

Well, it's more or less what has been mentioned. A terrorist group wants to release Death. It sticks to existing continuity well. Can't say too much more or I'll spoil it!

Negatives?

Well I don't think Dredd really works as an audio. It just doesn't. I know you are supposed to use your imagination but the scenes involving Dredd firing at perps just don't work for me. Plus the lawgivers sound like someone stepping in a puddle. Odd that. Literally Pfff!

Plus I have started to go off Toby's Dredd. He is playing Dredd far too gruff and aggressive. I think he is wonderful when he speaks calmly but most of the time he is shouting. The director should tell him to be more subtle in his performance.

He sounds like he has some kind of persecution complex.
I always imagined to be Dredd be fairly calm, yet authoritarian. A delicate balance. But Toby plays him agitated in every scene. I don't know why. In fact Dredd is too emotional for my liking. There are some scenes where he sounds like Stallone. Don't like that.
Calm down mate!

Anyway apart from one minor niggle involving limited security at Iso Block 99, and not enough real action overall, I liked it a lot.

Shall we say 7 and a half out of ten.

Er... well..

How do I get out of this?

I know!  My Dredd is an alternate Dredd in an alternate dimension!

It's exactly the same as the 2k one, except for some unknown reason, Dredd's apartment is not in the basement.

Dimensions, who understands em!
