Nikolai Dante and Sinister Dexter. Back in the day, Zenith. I really want to love the ABCs (the Bisley Black Hole eps and Hammerstein's origin story are probably my all time favourite 2000AD stories), but its had some really dodgy moments.

Battery life is supposed to be 8 hours playback. It won't play MP3's - like all Sony stuff it'll be DRM'd up the wazoo and only playback ATRAC. There will be movies etc available on their UMD format and it'll be interesting to see if someone hacks it to allow movie playback via the memory stick. Can't see it being cheap though - lot of kit in there.

Off Topic / Re: your longest constants...........

Wierd, I was just thinking about this in the car the other day. Apart from family, 2000AD is EASILY the longest 'constant' in my life, at 26 years. My best mate (16 years) and gf/wife (13 years) are a long way behind. I suppose 'general reading science fiction' might be a little longer (if a little vague) but I can't really remember which was first (only that 'Have Spacesuit Will Travel' was the first SF novel I read).

Probably Earth:X for me. I'd started to read some Marvel stuff when the Ultimates lines kicked off and I thought this would be good (especially with Alex Ross covers) but I just found it impenetrable - relies far too much on knowing the whole Marvel Universe backstory and is very waffly and verbose.

"I was wondering, is there a bit of the UK that jackpot winners tend to come from?"

Grimsby's had about half a dozen jackpot winners I believe, and there's a newsagent somewhere (I forget where) thats had two jackpots.

Ro-busters would make a better CG series than the ABC Warriors, it would have broader appeal. Just like in the comics, you could spin the ABC Warriors off if it was successful.

There's a ton of stuff in the archive that would make good movies; "Fiends of The Eastern Front" would be very in-vogue about now - any dumbass studio exec would get the "Dog Soldiers meets Van Helsing" pitch. I'd love to see Zenith filmed but its probably the least likely to happen because of all the rights issues isn't it?

Based on the list that started the thread (I've taken out Godzilla coz its not a comic source):

*Spider-Man ll - (I've got a sneaking suspicion this may be 'the one')
X-Men ll - (My current favourite, although I admit I've got a soft spot for Blade, which isn't listed)
*Hellboy
Superman
Spider-Man
Men in Black
Batman
Mask
X-Men
DareDevil
Superman ll
Batman ll
League of Extrardinary Gentlemen - (As a movie I thought LoEG was OK, so long as you completely ignore where it came from. Dorian Grey was actually an inspired move)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Superman lll
Judge Dredd - (shit but I did like the set design)
*Punisher - (Hopes aren't high because I don't even rate the source material much)
Batman lll
Superman lV
Men in Black ll
*Catwoman
Batman lV - (easily the worst comic book movie ever, until...)
Hulk - (what were they thinking? Unremitting Dreck. It's so simple HULK SMASH! Morons...)

TMNT ll - (haven't seen)
TMNT lll - (haven't seen)

Quentin Tarantino - wrote the whole 'Kirby Silver Surfer' scene in the Crimson Tide, and of course Clarence in True Romance works in a comics shop. Of course Tarantino is pretty much into every media going so its not that surprising.

I think I read somewhere that Ron Pearlman was a fan of Hellboy before he got the gig.

Kil'n People - David Brin. Brilliant concept (a world where we can make temporary copies of ourselves to go and do all the stuff we don't want to), and a great detective story.

Quicksilver - Neal Stephenson. His latest (and start of a trilogy), slow start but I'm hooked and waiting for the next one in May.

Coalescent - Stephen Baxter. I've read most of Baxter's stuff (although I often wonder why coz he depresses me) and this is a little different, a little pacier, and actually has characters that you give a shit about, which is a nice change for him.

Anyone know if Cam Kennedy sells his artwork? Cos I'd buy that cover - best cover art on anything 2000AD related for a looong time.

General / Re: Why we love Halo
11 December, 2003, 01:54:49 AM
By strange coincidence I picked up the special edition hardcover in Borders today, started to flick through and next thing I knew I'd read the whole thing and my lunch hour was over. I'd forgotten just how good Halo Jones is (it must be fifteen years since I last read it). I think it DOES stand up to repeated reading, even after all this time; certainly leaps and bounds ahead of anything else from the same period, although like the ending of the original Italian Job, very frustrating the way it ends (the allusions through the books to what she gets up to later are intriguing), but at the same time it probably ends at the right time...

Whoa! Bit hard core anti-Potter around here or what? J K Rowling 'disgusts' you? Why ffs? She writes books lots of people like, if you don't like them fine, but don't begrudge the woman her success. As for His Dark Materials, it was so, so much better than any other kids fiction (including Potter) until the Amber Spyglass, which was just rubbish, and massively disappointing. Unfortunately, it seems to be fairly consistent these days that authors have trouble finishing their epics convincingly :(

PS2 and Gamecube prices won't drop again in the UK this side of Christmas. PS2 already dropped ?30 a couple of months ago and at ?79.99, the only way GameCube could go is if they give it away free with Mcdonalds! (GBA is actuallt more expensive than GameCube).
