Messages - Byron Virgo

#751
That's be Torquemada the God, which occurs (series -wise) after Book 6: Toquemurder, at the same time as ABC Warriors: Black Hole and leads into Book 7: The Two Torquemadas. But Torque family stuff occurs in Vengeance of Toth and Torquemurder (a number of deaths, and the revelation of 'Grandfather' Nostradamus), with Torquemada the God detailing Torque's return to Termight, and the acquisition of a new wife.

There's also a few Nemesis one-off's from annuals and whatnot that weren't in the colection, and I assume will be in the next volume.

Weird - only half my message appeared...don't know what happened there...

Is Storming Heaven out yet then Duds? Crap, I wish I'd waited and asked for that for Christmas now.

"I'm sure we can offer easy terms on a transfer of Byron Virgo if you are interested."

Well, not until the transfer window is open though...

It's got to be better than anything else on offer on TV over Christmas, that's for sure. What kind of odds do you think you'd get?

"You also get paid to not work."

Hah! That'll be the day...

"And you can't go around spouting drivel like "if you don't like it don't do it" unless you've already achieved your lifelong dreams of running a dinosaur farm on Mars overseen by supermodels, you won't get very far unless you learn to do things you don't want to do. No-one would have jobs, go to church, get married or have kids if they were suddenly told they could do what they like by society"

Yeah, difference being that you get PAID to go to work (I know you haven't worked in years, but you ought to still be able to comprehend the principle) - you see, you're getting something in return. What exactly is it you're suggesting you get from watching some cack TV programme that you yourself claim (at great and tiresome length) you do not enjoy? Is it just that, being Irish, you crave the bitter thrill of constant dissapointment? That would go some way to explaining why you'd get a Sky box, of course...

"And I'm very busy. Unlike some, who apparantly have all their outstanding articles and strips already finished and can swan about here doing not much."

Well you can't mean me then - I've done NOTHING for three months now, other than avoid work.

You? Busy? Don't make me laugh - all you're doing is larking about spending all your dole cash on computer games whilst lounging around on pillows! That's my bloody money you're spending, you goddamn workshy, layabout, hippie-gyppo scum...get your hair cut, get a job, get to to church and get a grip!

A spell of National Service'd sort you out...

"Watching something and then bitching about it afterwards at least means you're making an emotional connection to the material."

No, it means that you're wasting your time getting yourself annoyed so that you can dill yourself full of self-righteous fury. Like James sagely pointed out, you watch something purely to dislike it, so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, because you're not really making an objective (and therefore honest) emotive reaction to the subject, because you've already made up your mind that you don't like it.

Now, why should you waste your valuable and short time on the brief planet perversely doing something you know you don't really like (unless of course you do really like it, but are too ashamed to admit it), why not just simply do something that you find genuinely entertaining or worthwhile in what little time you have left?

Particularly as you're pretty old and probably haven't got long left, plus I happen to know that you've got shit to be getting on with, so get to it and stop prannying about watching Pratchett-based tat!

"Teatime is played by some chap from The DaVinci Code and Hustle, neither of which I've seen"

Marc Warren. He was in that episode of Doctor Who about the people who sit around in a disused factory and play ELO covers. And he's going to be playing Dracula in the new BBC adaptation, so that'll probably be another one worth missing.

"Once again Byron you show your foolishness to a wide audience."

Well, you would say that, wouldn't you, being my arch-enemy and all...

The Love Boat was great - there's only one token black character in the whole programme, and they make him the bartender! Brilliant!

"That's crazy talk, Berridge - if we only watched good stuff on television, we'd have nothing left to watch at all!"

You say that like it's supposed to be bad though. Take this Christmas TV schedules - bugger all on that any sensible person would chose to watch. So why bother?

"This one tickles my Sunset Beach senses. I may enjoy it for reasons other than those intended by the producers."

I don't agree with this ironic TV-watching, 'it's-so-bad-that-it's-good' silliness - either it's good or it's 'so-bad-that-it's-bad'.

Except for Love Boat. That's fantastic!

Why do people insist on watching shite that they don't like, just so that they can then bitch about it at great length afterwards?

It's quite simple - if you don't think it's any good, why are you wasting time watching it? Turn off your TV and go and do something else, or at least go and watch something more worthwhile if you can't bear to have the magic eye box off for more than five minutes - The Sweet Smell of Success, for example.

There were a whole bunch of Flemmish Slaine's in the Comics Museum in Brussells (about 9 books altogether?), as well as the three b&w volumes of Halo Jones.
