Website and Forum / Re: Cookies
14 January, 2002, 06:36:07 AM
I use Windows ME with MSIE 5.5. Havn't adjusted any settings from how it installed itself. When I go to a site I use regularly such as Friens reunited or Amazon It automatically recognises who I am stright away. Whenever I come to the 2000AD site I always have to log in again and again and again...
Autocomplete works but this just seems to be very long winded. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

Wake,
Why do we need to log-in each time we come to the site? Would it be possible to creeate a section of code - probably using a cookie so we are automatically recognised. It would just be much quicker, that's all.

I'm in the chat room scojo - not staying long. Wake only problem I see with this new Who's where is.. You say you want to chat... eventually someone else comes on... but you can't send a quick message to say you are there then it takes too long to update to show others you are in the chat room.

Like the idea, think it may need a bit of tweaking though to get i perfect.

General / Re: Reprint requests for megazine....
13 January, 2002, 09:11:15 PM
I have got some of the Daily Star Dredds and they are quite good. I bought a collection many years ago, and have the ones that the meg and 200AD have already done. Would be interested in seeing the rest. Overall I would like to see the rarer good stuff being reprinted. And preferably quite old so there is a chance I havn't got it.
Many thanks for the advice on the current run - may do a PVS and read the latest in WH Smiths to see what I think :) (I'm cheeky me!)
So wait till March... others agree?
Can you presuade someone else on the board to take out a subscription like it appears we may have done to PVS?
Also is it easy to change subscription from just 2000AD to both 2000AD and the Meg?
Thanks for the help... and in advance for the flaming for saying I shall read it in the newsagents... there you don't need to do it now!

General / Reprint requests for megazine

Quite like to see the Star Lord Strontium Dog stories - have these been printed in 2000AD at any time? and are they any good?
Rarely buy the Megazine these days as I have most of the reprint stories, and have not been that impressed with non-dredd stories. Considering trying to get back into it. What do others think of it at the moment is it better than it was? or is every issue full of filler and reprint material?
Am I missing out on anything worth getting?

General / Re: One or four dark judges?.........

I agree if the movies were successful the inclusion of the 4 judges and the sisters for a sequel would be fantastic. Also movies which try to have too many bad guys tend to fail because of the lack of time for strong characterisation.

Many have suggested that to be commercially successful in TV and Film Dredd must not be quite the bastard he is in the comics. I still disagree.
Star Wars best characters - Darth Vader, Darth Maul
Buffy best characters - Angel (especially when he was being bad) and Spike - they just have an edge.
Angel - Angel (of course) but it was much better when he was going off the rails in season 2.
Star Trek/Voyager - the Borg
etc...
Let the floodgates of disagreement be opened!

General / Shoreline film deals
10 January, 2002, 06:55:46 AM
I have just been interrupted by my girlfriend whilst responding to the smallville link. I told her about the new movie deal. Her response was open mouthed shock and then she said "but the first was so shit!" She has never read any of the comic books. IMHO Trying to radically change the character of Dredd and his world will not work.

General / Re: Anyone watching Smallville?...
10 January, 2002, 06:52:23 AM
I watched for the first time tonight. So I have no way of comparing it to previous episodes. However I did feel the series had a definite Dawson's Creek/Buffy/and Roswell feel to it. If this series has been/is successful I feel it just gives strength to my earlier comments that what we really want is a Judge Dredd series.
As far as updating the character I still recognise Clark as Superman that I read about in the comic books, and not a lot seems to have changed that dramatically changes the character of Clark/Superman from the stories in the comics about his Smallville years.
However - the changes that were made to Judge Dredd for the Stallone movie, and the proposd changes to the Judges system outlined by Shoreline (yes I know Jason has passed comment on this) for the new movies would be radically different - and as such the character that has consistently won "Best British Comic book character" for years would be almost unrecognisable, and nothing like the character and the setting that has been so successful. Remember when they changed the character so much for the Stallone movie they created a flop not just at the movies but it hardly had the commercial success that was wanted for the spin off products not just in the US but over here aswell.

Help! / Re: Where's my prog?
10 January, 2002, 01:33:51 AM
It's here! And Loking over what others have been saying I can only agree that the current Bad Comp[any just doesn't have the same quality to it as series one and two. In fact every story since the end of Bad Company II has been pretty rubbish. I hope over the remaining parts of the current story I am made to eat my words.
