By the time you read this (June 1st) , I'll be 45 years old.  This is fantastic because....
- errr, I'll get some presents
- I'm half way to 90
- once the birthday is past, people will stop brightly exclaiming 'you're a Gemini' as though this news is new and interesting
- I'm going to have a bash in a pub to celebrate

cheers!

Hey there, an old poster returns!  Rather than announce yet again, that I was going to take time off from the board, I just took it, so I could get on with my study.
I've been studying, working like a bastard and not reading progs. I still get them, they're just queued up behind all my other subscriptions.
So what have I missed on the board in the last few months?  Anything interesting?

cheers,

Floyd

My son has an idea for a computer game.  Does anyone know how difficult it would be to make a game? I'm thinking of either the text based hitchhikers guide game or those waaay old games that are now on emulators

Some bloke called Guy Deslisle has written a comic about a brief visit to North Korea, where he was doing a kids cartoon.  Looks like a fun read, kind of.
The review in the Grauniad told him off for seeming to believe "that good coffee, hi-tech gadgets, acid jazz CDs and sexily dressed women are crucial to an evolved society".  I don't know about acid jazz but otherwise I'm with Delisle on that.
  Has anyone read it?

Like the title says, I'm asking if anyone can help me find part or all of the script for the Australian 1997 film, The Castle online.

Feel free to post a picture of the moon on a stick

I've finally finished watching ALL of Blake's 7.  It was a lot of fun, although very cheesy. I'm lucky I had a B7 expert to discuss the experience with, who could advise me in the ways of future alcoholic drinks (which always look like orange or green cordial). And, to my great happiness that annoying twat Tarrant finally snuffed it
Now what? What nerdier pastures can I move on to? Any suggestions?http://www.crazyabouttv.com/ImagesTwo/blakes7.jpg">

I keep thinking it would be nice to have a huge delux 'Necropolis' volume, with:
- really good presentation, hard-cover, in a big box etc
- (more importantly) all the various prequel and aftermath stories; Dead Man, Necropolis, that Ennis story where Silver returns, even that Holocaust Denial guy who wound up having to count all the victims

No, there's no link to JB's website. I haven't been there for ages.  However, I think there are some features there that this site could usefully copy

1/ Invisible spoilers
You can make your spoiler invisible, so that people have to highlight it to read it. This makes the chance of stumbling across a spoiler much lower and would make it easier for me to read Prog threads without spoiling plot twists

2/Calling Killfile 'ignore'
not really important, but it sounds better. You're not killing people, just ignoring them

3/ A long list of ridiculous rules, frequently ignored by the person who wrote them

4/ Having the board run by an embittered narcissistic old hack

actually, we might not want to adopt all of these

Help! / Batman vs Batman One Year Later
12 September, 2006, 08:59:25 AM
this is embarrassing but are these two titles the same?

I was happily collecting Batman then found some gaps. I'm trying to get the missing comics (which are 651 to 654) but keep getting 'one year later' stories. Does the comic change from Batman to Batman-One Year Later or are they two separate titles?

yours shamefacedly,

Floyd (one year later)

Are you reading enough comics? Here's how to read more. There's an article in the Japan Times by Patrick Macias about people who scan manga and translate it, then put the results online for free.  He gives a couple of links:

manga.ignition-one.com

and (considerably naughtier and not-at-all work safe) caterpillar.voiea.net

Help! / All you awesome puzzle-game dudes out there
10 September, 2006, 06:16:47 PM
You know who you are! This is a big ask, but there's this game done by one of the mob who do the growcube thingies and we can't solve it. The guy who wrote it thinks it's too hard, so no wonder Roy and I need help.
Any good hints or even the actual solution would be welcome.  I attach a picture of Abbaddon Guy looking as happy as I'll be if you do this

Reading my way through Crisis, I notice a review for a play by Morrison. From the review, it seems a bit 'lost girls' ish.
Did anyone see it? Was it any good?  Should Morrison get out of comics and get into theatre?

I have a programme for the above-named movie, which I saw in 2003.  I bought the programme because I like Godzilla and thought I could sell it on ebay when I got tired of it. However, I just put it there and not a nibble.
Serves me right I hear you say; the damn thing is all in Japanese and I'm in Australia and probably thousands of kilometres away from the nearest Kaiju Eiga buff. However I thought I'd ask, before I trot it up to the local op shop, does anyone either want it or know where I could sell it? It's a big booky thing, with a CD ROM and loads of Godzillaish pictures.  If anyone here wants it, you have but to pay the postage.

cheers,

Floyd

Books & Comics / What is it with Gaiman?
23 August, 2006, 07:12:16 PM
I've always been nervous about reading any of Neil Gaiman's stuff. It was recommended to me back in the 80s by a colossal nerd, so I didn't read it then. Then someone loaned me a terrrible pretentious comic with a wordy foreward by Gaiman. Now Jim Campbell says Gaiman's not a genius.
On the other hand John whatsisname says Gaiman is insufficiently respectful to Kirby, so he can't be all bad. And the Northcote library is full of Gaiman's work.
What's a boy to think? What do you think? Genius? If so, how?
