I thought of the Luther Arkwright timeline, but my wildest imaginings didn't produce a world in which 54 Jones has un-scalded town halls

Michael Chabon, who wrote the mostly brilliant The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay has a new book out, 'The Yiddish Policeman's Union'.  It's about an alternative world in which Israel wasn't created in Palestine. Instead the Jews were given a 'settlement' in Alaska.
It's an interesting premise and a change from the usual "if Germany had won the war" counterfactuals.
Has anyone read it? Can anyone think of any other good counterfactual scenarios which haven't been done to death?

Off Topic / Re: Simpsons vs Transformers.........

Oh well, we went for The Simpsons....Roy wanted it and Transformers wasn't on at that cinema.  The Simpson's was pretty ordinary; nice animation, a few laughs but over all nothing you couldn't wait for on  TV. Roy loved it.

Having been thwarted, I now have an unreasonable craving to see Transformers. It's like all those Bish-op ebay auctions I keep impulsively bidding on and then losing

that would be fun but it's not an option. Our eyes would bug out. The last time we saw two movies was when the Hamutaro movie was on a double bill with the snappily titled Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla: Tokyo SOS.

I'm taking my son to a movie tomorrow. Assuming it's possible to sway his opinion, which should we see, Transformers or The Simpsons Movie?  The former has big robots and an allegedly cute female lead, the latter may well be funny.
  What would you recommend?

Hearty congratulations to the X family!  Having a kid is terrific; the bad bits are grossly exaggerated and the good bits are so terrific they can't really be described properly to anyone who hasn't been through it.
You've got a lot to look forward to.

with all the other interesting stuff from the mind of Mills, I hope not. Slaine feels tired.

As someone said, give me the ABCs any day.

Roy will be gutted to hear it was a one off.  Mitsuko, who is appalled at her son reading a war comic, will be less gutted

At the risk of making PVS feel stalked, I have to add this. I usually get my son a Friday Night treat of some kind. Today I couldn't find anything. Not wanting to give him nothing, I gave him 'Big War Comic', thinking he'd at least enjoy the free 'flying glider'.
He loved the whole thing, took great pleasure in reading the comic and was fascinated by the reference to Japanese soldiers.  He's hooked!

Spooky, isn't it? I may try giving the wife 'Sunny' the girls comic for Christmas....

Books & Comics / All Hail PVS!!

Some time ago PVS kindly sent me a bunch of his various comics, including Omnivistascope, Solar Wind, Big War Comic and Sunny For Girls. I've only just started reading them and am thoroughly enjoying the experience.
I'd urge you all to buy them rather than waiting for PVS to have another random attack of kindness.

I loved 'Silo', me, although I didn't think it was completely successful.  I've just noticed that Millar wrote 'Red Razors' which I found addictive. Then again he was responsible for the Grudge Father.
I loved Crusade. It was the first Dredd story i read.

thanks for the tips.  These stories are quite good and I'll look out for Red Son.
