It's getting slicker Marbles, well done.

Those 2000AD figures look great, and I'd love to buy them, but ?5 each, that's licensed thievery.  Sorry, I mean 'excellant value'.  For ?2.50 each I'd probably have bought them all.

I tried them at Junior School, they were a vague meaty/musty flavour.  Not very tasty, you'd assume something was wrong with them.

Oh I had a dream Andy Serkis was the next Doctor Who, don't ask me why - the dream was about something else.  It seems a bit unlikely to me, possibly not even a good idea, but I thought I'd mention it.

Could have done without Catherine Tate, don't really know her stuff, but what I've seen hasn't done much for me.  Still, no big deal, at least it wasn't David Walliams.

BUT... who would you rather see in that Wedding Dress?

Minnie Driver
Kate from Lost

I liked just about all the Dalek stuff, apart from their pathetic taunts, and a slightly embarressing sucker kiss of death.

I think what they did was remember the lyrics to the song...

"We're gonna make it to the church on time
We're gonna make it to the church on time
I'm gonna get my soul in line
I'm gonna make it to the church on time"

And think, aha!  We have a loose time connection type pun, and it's going to be utterly bloody camp, lots of emotion, it'll have them in floods of tears over their Christmas turkey, marvellous (cue hand waving and self congratulation Dr Who Team, you deserve it).

Prediction for the Christmas episode:  At the end, after Catherine Tate has been running about with her wedding dress hitched up avoiding something slightly alien in a whacky adventure, the Doctor finally gets her to the wedding, after lots of last minute nerves and doubts.  The doctor is smiling like a fool at the back of the church (if they are really shameless he'll give her away), looking very smug as Catherine Tate says 'I do', cue swell of emotionally exploitative music.  A kiss, perhaps with a meaningful look back to the doctor.   He'll end up catching the Bouquet, with a slightly embarressed look to his new assistant who he'll meet on the adventure (I could be wrong on this, reckon it's 50/50).  There is also a 10.7% chance the Doctor will wear the wedding dress (including veil) at some point.

Roll on Christmas!

Meanwhile on Torchwood, they corner a dangerous alien but it awakens new emotions in them and they are torn between killing it, and having a meaningful relationship with it.

I'm less negative than I sound at the moment, what I didn't like the most in the show (Rose Tyler) was wrapped up quite well.  And now that's gone, there may be room for a bit more story.  Presumably the new assistant won't have quite the same relationship (how could anyone ever match up to the empty minded chav that was Rose Tyler) and won't keep insisting the Doctor visits her family.  No missing father stuff, no weak love triangle, no crying on mum's shoulder.

"And was there really only one Dalek survivor (the black Dalek who screamed +++TEMPORAL SHIFT!+++ during the Big Levers moment)?"

I liked that bit.  The Daleks live!  And so may some of the cybermen if they were created with materials from this earth (they have been there a while), of course, proper cybermen still exist anyway...

Predicton: "Hopefully it won't be a bunch of cut scenes of Daleks V Cybermen, not much story and about 20 minutes of crying."

Outcome:  "AFFIRMATIVE!"

There was good stuff in there, and I even liked some of the goodbye Rose stuff.  But for all the good stuff, there was an awful lot of embarressing arse, that could have been cut very easily.

The crying Cyberman really ruined a good scene. I did my duty, for queen and country.
The Daleks squabbling with Cybermen really ruined a good scene.  They could have cut a few lines and it would have been much less embarressing all round.
Rose getting all sassy against daleks was really embaressing, go-girl!

We've had crying Daleks, crying Cyberman, crying Doctor.  Series 3:  The Master singing 'I Will Survive' on a Zorogandan Kareoke, and regretting he never got to bum the doctor.

Anyway, despite thinking most of the second series with Rose was uneccesary, I thought they wrapped up the series 1 and 2 family stuff very well.  The characters all get wrapped up nicely and have gone through their various journey's.

But I think RTD indulged his Rose fantasy for one series too many.  She may have been extraordinarily ordinairy, and blonde, and pretty, and a bit gobby, but who was she?  I know what Russel T Davies has said, that she is the best thing that ever came into the doctor's life. I would try to describe her personality, but I can't, to me she was a none person.  At best a second rate buffy clone, without the special powers or destiny.

Overall, I watched this episode, swore a few times, enjoyed the Daleks and it was enjoyable enough.  The more sobre Doctor at the end (bar the crying) really worked for me.

I think they have a chance now Rose has gone, with a more sobre doctor.  But we'll see.

Well, the show costs the BBC a lot of money, at some point it's probably going to get cancelled.  Not neccesarily because it's bad, just because there will be a time when the money could be seen to be spent more wisely.

I got a buzz out of seeing the daleks pop out of their voidship, and I'm guessing they weren't gay daleks either, I'll probably always get a buzz out of seeing them.  I don't think it's too much to ask for some sort of story to back it all up, but we'll see.

"If anyone happens to be at San Diego this year July 20 ? 23..."

Sadly, much as I'd love to see that, I shall be attending the rival to the San Diego con at Prestonpans, 9 miles east of Edinburgh on July 22nd.

"It is famous for the battle of 1745 but is also fast becoming known for its murals which you cannot fail to notice dotted throughout the town."

In your face San Diego!

Heh, I can see how you might think that from the strip Adventurer, in truth Dredd would probably have felt largely relieved if Walter had pegged it.  Perhaps I'm being unfair on ol' stoney face.
