I've been watching mainly old TV shows for a while now, and thought it was just me.  Some of them made before I was born, and few of them out of any nostalgia.

I worry it's a mistake to avoid new drama, ther'es lots of good stuff made, it's just easy to cherry pick the past and get a distorted view of things.  There are of course, good films, comics and books made today, despite my moanings (see I am Legend Trailer thread, where I'm moaning on like an old git again).

Head so much about Press Gang, I'm going to crack next time I see some cheapish.  Gary Wilkinson reccomended Bird of Prey to me and it was great.  I'm also looking to pick up House of Cards at some point, that looks like fun.

"now it's on to pub number three..."

Is it wrong for me to secetly hope these pictues degenerate throughout the evening?  Yes, I think it probably is.

My own pet experiences only come down to being haunted by the ghosts of some fish and a budgie.  The budgie seemed to develop a 'Rico' like badness after falling off a ball with a bell in it and was shipped off to a relatives for its statuatory 'ten years on Titan'.  I've never been a pet person, and avoid them at friend's houses.

Sorry to hear about your cat, Jim. Don't get too pissed.

"You know, a lot of writers complain that tying series together and sticking to continuity limits their ability to be creative. I don't buy that at all. I see the combined series and the timeline they create as a source of interesting questions. The answers will be stories (how good or bad depends on the writer)."

Very well put.

Some are more fun than others, but I like plenty of them after the fist book.  The one in the Asylum is really funny and Kingom of the Blind is particularly warped.

Just recieved fom Top Shelf, making my attempts to collect all of Marshall Law a little redundant, but most welcome all the same!

Go Mental :)

Paul

BEHIND THE MASK ââ?¬â? Secrets. Secret identities. Secret lusts. Secret
hates. The dark and sordid world of Super Heroes...

Pull down the trunks, you won't like what you see.

When supermen go rogue, you call on the Court of Last Resort...

MARSHAL LAW

The government has commissioned living weapons of mass destruction to
 wage
war on terror. The survivors return home broken, bitter, insane. Some
 form
gangs, some go psycho. Some turn into 'A' list celebrities with 'A'
 bomb
fists. The city is now a war zone.

San Futuro needs a Super Cop to enforce summary justice. His eyes will
reflect the rocket's red glare. He is Twilight's Last Gleaming...

MARSHAL LAW

A bad choice is better than no choice at all.

Top Shelf is proud to announce that it has just signed Pat Mills and
 Kevin
O'Neill's MARSHAL LAW, and will publish a MARSHAL LAW Omnibus next year
 Ã¢â?¬â?
THE all-up one-volume, full-color, 500(+)-page definitive MARSHAL LAW
collection.

Chris Staros and Brett Warnock have been huge fans of the series since
 the

collection of the entire series.

The anti-heroes' anti-hero will never look better.

Books & Comics / Re: Dandy Xtreme!

But surely that's just a challenge to raise your game?

It's this same lack of imagination and belief that computer games are an unconquerable opponant that killed comics in the 80's.  All comics had to do was creatively outmatch them, pretty easy when you see what was on offer back then, but obviously by that point there was nobody to create the next wave of titles.

Comics, publications filled mostly with comic strips, are just going to go the way of the 78 vinyl unless someone does something, and comic strips will take the same roll as newspaper strips did, before joining them on the scrapheap.

At the end of the day it's just easier to type up some press releases as mini-features and stick some crappy toys on the cover.

Unless they keep it alive purely as a status symbol, DC Thompson are going to lose the Beano as well.  It's not really their fault, there's nobody else out there doing it, no market and the only competition are the pretty cheaply produced free gifters.

You now have parents who've probably never read a comic, so it can't be looking good.

"They required a guide, packed with the stuff kids need to know to stay in the loop - a lifestyle magazine attuned to their hectic lives, featuring all the latest trends, must-haves, must-sees and must-dos.

Fuck off they do.

I bet the editors think this new comic is 'cool' and the kids will 'dig it'.

Just what we the world needs, another eco-disaster lifestyle mag for 8 year olds.

Essentially, they've just waved a little white flag and given up on comics, because it takes too much energy and creativity to put something out that will really engage the readers.  While at the same time they see other people selling tat and making money.

Mind you I haven't even had a space spinner with 2000AD Xtreme!  And I still haven't worked out what Revere was about, never mind take lifestyle advice from it.  Tharg, can we please reduce the comic strips to a small insert so you can sell us advertising features as 'lifestyle choices' and give us some free shite?

Mind you, odds on they'll change it back in a few months and gain a few extra sales off the publicity.

"You know it's Gerry Finley Day..."

Not as some have asked a dig at anyone just a comment on the way things are.

You know it's a Grant Morrison script... when he turns up in it telling you how clever he is.

You know it's Gerry Finley Day... when someone else takes the credit for it and it's later spun out into a series of games, novels or comic strips by other writers.

Film & TV / Re: Pat Who?

Wow, I'll give that go.

A shame neither my wallet or my Doctor Who fandom credentials are big enough to be buying into the Big Finish range.  In retrospect I think Paul McGann was the best Doctor since Tom Baker, despite being saddled with a mediocre tv movie.

Anyway, Mills and McGann eh?  I'll be trying that one.

I think Wagner and Grant have always been willing to do other stuff, it's just a matter of being paid for it.  A cying shame they couldn't do Stontium Dog, though Clements and the cast of the BF SD audios made a petty good job of it all the same.

Maybe we could have some Slaine Audios?

Well, while saying there had been some good covers, you did seem to end on that note.

I concede you know what you meant better than me.  Sorry!

While they both possibly needed a bit more to them, I don't think it's fair to say covers are boring these days, we've had some crackers this year.

I'm annoyed at myself now.  I really love Dylan Teague's work, and his covers are awlays great.  There was just something about the face reminded me of Steve Yeowell's drawing.

Exciting image though!
