Yowell then Elson?

Really like the Samantha Slade one.  Both have a nice impact, could do with something else going on in them.

Cheers

Cheers

Thanks Art, I was desperately hoping someone would come to my aid there.

Well John Hicklenton is a guy getting back into comic art after some time, and a big story as well, so he deserves to be cut some slack.

Sadly, despite my huge respect for both creators, it's not a great strip, it's pretty bad.  And I say that with no joy, as I really don't want to fuel some of the anti-mills nosnense that goes on.

This Judge Dredd has nothing to do with the one of the past, or the new and mature strip that Wagner writes, nor is a direction anyone really wants to see the strip go in I imagine.  So it's a bit of a non-starter, and nobody is going to come away happy.

A real shame both their twisted energies weren't put into something new and original, because there is original work in there from the pair of them and stuff that could be developed.  It's just unfortunately shackled to Judge Dredd.

Anyway, I hope to see both Pat Mills and John Hicklenton again in the meg soon on something else.  I'd like to see something in the mould of Nemesis book 8 (? the bonkers coss dimensional Thatcher one), I think this storyline could have worked quite nicely (or quite horribly rather) in a more modern setting with some work.

There's stuff I don't read every month in the meg ands almost every week in the prog.  This has just turned out to be one of those stories.

"A lot of them have never heard of Dredd and are now buying back issues and graphic novels to find out more about him and his world."

I'm genuinely surprised by that, a good figure can have that much impact?  Great!

Nice figure.  Movie inspired?

I did complain about Dredd, but I think Dredd is a hard figure to get right for everyone, as we all have ou different versions we like.

We are getting a Death as well aren't we?  I'd like to see some ones we haven't had before.

Oh and while I'm here, the BBC has a British film season on at the moment, and there is a good horror section due.  Some classics on.

Not at all.  I should have added more explanation, or just shut up, one of the two.

I remember really enjoying it when I saw it on video the fist time around and it was on my list of dvd's to pick up.  But it just didn't do it for me this time round.  There are other movies from the same time that I hated, which I now quite enjoy (Phantasm Films!).

"For the of love all that's holy, why would you re-make Near Dark?"

Just watched it again for the first time in years it's a big dissapointment.

They do have all the satisfaction of a reheated leftovers.

The Hills have Eyes wasn't a bad remake, it just didn't have the characters and the drama of the first one (nice scene with the craters though!) Not going to touch the second one, or any prequels and I only watched it based on a couple of recomendations.

Someone will always come along and sweep away the worst tedious excesses of the old, and bring in some new ideas only for them to eventually be sapped in turn by less original talents, and the cycle will go on.  You can't kill horror.

General / Re: Ant Williams on Robo Hunter......

Putting any other issues to one side, I think Anthony Williams art is very good on this week's Robohunter.  His Hoagy and Stogey are great, and the art works well as a whole.  While he's been put in a situation he could be criticised for, I don't think that would be fair.

As a strip, I've never been entirely sure either if Gibson or Grant has had their hearts in this.  Nice idea, and nice moments, but it needs more enthusiasm and energy.

Having just watched the last one on BBC3, "0.07%" I just think they should have made a Watchman TV series if they were going to steal so much of it uncredited.

It's still an okay show, I'm not sure it deserves any fuss made about it though.

"Compared to LOST it delivers"

It's very much 'son of Lost'.

Not much story and a lot of dwelling on a large cast and the interactions between them while trundling along to a vague and disambiguous end.  It's biggest star also happens to be the geek.

Some people at work have given up, but I'm not watching much else and I'd still be watching Lost, despite my feelings on that, if it hadn't gone to murdoch.

Personally I feel rather old fashioned expecting a story in each episode rather than stuff just happening.

He also does his European stuff.  There is Requiem and two spin offs I believe.

Yeah, had some pretty poisonous looks from the wife of one friend when I said I had some spare spud guns if their son wanted on.  No Guns!

I'm pretty convinced that reseach will eventually show that not reading war stories and playing with toy guns as a kid will make you more likely to kill in the future.
