That's Meks for you, practically made of irony they are.  And of course Blackblood is made of the bitterest irony of all.

Remember Bourganville!

PVS :)

p.s. I'm not afraif of my ignorance, although I should be, it's hug.  So can someone please tell me what happened in the real life Bourganville?

Well their seems to be a lot of fans of a certain Polar Bear lurking on the board.  It could be fun as a one off for prog 2003!

I intend to take control of Alan Moore on the plane of gargogyl and then force him to do my bidding (i.e. Halo Jones book 4) and if it's rubbish I'll burn it and pretend it never happened.

Ace Garp's Belardinelli has shuffled onto the immortail coil, so I can;t see that happening.

A retro Robohunter by the original team would be good.

I don't think there is anything desperately waiting in the wings to come back apart from a guest appearence in a special.

LOL

Well alright!

Obviously, I'm not talking about B****-1 here, but I think it would be great if Lemmy (prompted by Doug's mention of the great Lemmy Cameo in Hardware, as good as the one he did in airheads) was in 2000AD.  Someone looking very much like him appeared in one of Bisley's heavy metal Dredds.  Or Ozzy too!

I like Event Horizon.  I heard a lot of bad stuff about it (something to do with boy scouts, or was that Mr King?) and put off watching it for ages.  My main problem being that the chaotic outer evil had a recognisable intelligence and personality.  It's some bizarre entity from another dimension and it started to behave a bit Freddy Krugerish towards the end.  It works well as a semi-lovecraftian piece.

I also enjoyed Unbreakable, possibly one of the best super hero films I've ever seen (that's not saying much) and I was avidly hoping for a sequel.  However it doesn't bear watching again as I found to my torpor.

Yup, you one grade A nitpicker, boy!

I do like all the different names for fillers, I'd like to see a more random assortment. Definitely like to see some wobo-tales and time twisters.

It's pretty quiet on the board ain't it?  If it gets any worse 2000AD Crown Court will come back.  Now there's an incentive to get posting.

Sorry, I use the term 'Future Shock' to represent all of those filler one-offs.  It was basically a future shock under a different brandname.  It had robots in so it was a Wobo-Tale.  If it had had Time Travel it would have been a Time Twister.  It's all the same thing. Even Tales of Telguuth is just a fantasy Future Shock as there doesn't really appear to be much of a connection between the stories.  I know some people like to maiuntain the distinction between these various filler stories, but I simply can't be bothered, they are all just a subdivision of Future Shocks.

I rather like Hardware, sure it's a bit flakey round the edges, but it's got a lot going for it.  Obviously that was ripped off a pretty good  Kevin O'Neill story (I heard the editor added his name to the credits innapropriately, Kevin hasn't had much luck with this one has he?) but the film doesn't feel like a future shock - even though it is :) - as it doesn't spend all its time buggering you about for a silly surprise ending.

I have a feeling that movies that come across as future shocks include mainly B-Movies, that like to say:

'hey, well you may have watched this film for two hours, but actually this is the ending, I know it leaves the film unended and pointless and may even contradict what we've been saying all the way through the movie, but here it is anyway, now piss off'

All those films where something else jumps out, or someones eyes glow, or slithers off into the distance before the credits roll.

Any films remind you of future shocks?  (or similar fillers)

I just got through watching the Astronaut's Wife, and it seemed to me like a five page future shock stretched to almost two hours.  It was okay though for a one watch movie.

I also regretably watched er... Jeepers Creepers which could have been a hell of a lot better and had the same sort of dumb ending I'd expect from a Terror Tale.

Cheers

General / Re: First Dredd CD rumours.......
02 April, 2002, 07:58:01 AM
Fully prepared to give them their chance.  I see the first one is due out today and the megazine with the sampler is due out tomorrow.  I'm also willing to allow for the characters not sounding how I imagine them (no-one consulted me I notice).

BUT if they feature Whispering Intangible Concept Monsters (Wiccems) like those that have plagued the Dr Who CD's I'm going to punch something very hard, then scream in primordial rage.

Oh well, here's hoping!  You all know Simon Pegg's going to be Johnny Alpha? That's the rumour.  At least it's someone who knows the character, let's hope he can do good voices.

I have been really looking forward to these and I've just heard someone say the preview is pants.  Awful story, bad casting.  Of course it may not be true, and I guess I'll reserve my judgement until I have heard the preview.  I really want these to be good.

Bloody hell...

General / Re: New (Nu) 2000AD Comics.........
31 March, 2002, 07:44:30 AM
Ooh, faithful HPL adaptations, that would be good.  HPL was THE 20th Century horror writer (I've deleted the rest of this HPL rant, really, it's for the best)

"2000AD Special Quarterly Specials, 2000AD Annuals, SCI-FI SUMMER/WINTER Specials..."

All, in my opinion, rather pointless and archaic.  The Prog 2000 thing is succesful but seems to take a lot of effort.  A sister comic to 2000AD that changed it's run, say, being Horror 2000AD for X weeks and then being Superhero 2000AD for X weeks, then something else and so on, maybe with a joint prog 2000 style outing at christmas would be great.

It would be a lot less additional effort than producing various annuals and specials (you aren't going to get the annuals for christmas from your parents and you aren't going to by the summer specials while at Scarborough, these are relics of a long gone age of comics, why bother) which seem to me from what I've heard very time and effort intensive from everyone concerned. I suspect more than one a year and the quality would be very poor indeed.

It could be 32 pages as per 2000AD, could be treated (and numbered) as seperate comics though run by the same people.  1 comic split into X different comics a year so it doesn't overload the market or pockets of 2000AD fans.  Just something different.

Anyway I'm off to think of how HPL's works make a mockery of most 20-21st Century science fiction and horror.

Sleep tight.
