Prog / Re: Prog 2258: Necessary Force!

Crazy cool cover and news of more The Order - hurray!

Dredd Over before it started really. There's some interesting ideas here, both about the dreams and about Dredd himself, but this feels like a prologue to something bigger. I'm not sure about all this dream recording when the story seems to be more talking about memories - I'm pretty sure my dreams don't contain snatches of events and conversations I've had IRL, perhaps thats because I'm not rich and powerful!

The Diaboliks Better than last week largely because of
the bloke getting taken out with a cricket ball - the Prog needs more 'Bok' in the post-Mean Machine era
- and someone called Lady Phantasmagoria. This is better than the Rome arc and there's some good character designs but the same problem remains that the protagonists I neither like nor care about.

Dexter Not terrible but so bland. It's amazing that this and The Out are written by the same person. Like IP, I too would prefer SinDex to stop, but if it is continuing then Tazio Bettin turns in some more lovely art and given how good his combat stuff was last time out I am looking forward to (hopefully) seeing him draw a robot fighting some dinosaurs next week.

Scarlet Traces Hard to comment on this each week without repeating myself on the art which is super lush. Story excellent and unexpected. Love the panel with the martians and given what's said there, it feels like this is winding up? Full marks.

The Out I had a small knock at The Out last week saying it was a bit too lightweight and suddenly you realise the plot was just taking a backseat. Two interesting developments here. I'll just go back to enjoying each week as it comes and stop my foolish critique.

First one I've voted on where it's not least worst.
Necronauts please!

Couldn't be less of a fan of Creep. I don't rate the Karyn stuff hugely but my vote goes to her and her giant hair. Karyn please!

I am currently watching a movie on Prime. It is called Legendary, and stars Scott Adkins and Dolph Lundgren as rival cryptozoologists hunting a giant lizard in China. This is a real thing that exists.

I am so going to watch this.

Auto-back for me, happy to be supporting this!

Sorry Funt! I kinda know what you mean as Chronos Carnival is terrible, but Harmony is one of those strips that embodies the worst of 90s comics for me - it's trying so hard to be cool, yet it's completely boring and forgettable. At least I still remember Chronos and its derpy dragons.

I've not voted in all these opening round qualifiers as there's several where I'm not familiar enough with one of the contenders to make a good judgement, but a good number of them are which flavour of poor-to-bang-average do you prefer. It has inspired me to dig out a few older Progs for a read though!

I recently reread Chronos Carnival and it really is mostly terrible, but it does have Ron art and it's still the best of these choices.

And while I'm here, here's another small press KS I'm backing:

Altiplano is one of the series Bolt recommended to me. It's unlike anything else I've read and if you think 'Peruvian Cyberpunk' sounds cool, I'd urge you to give it a look. This KS is for the last book in the trilogy but you can get the whole set here.

Seconded about Paragon 29 and cool news about a potential annual!

On Battle Badgers - I kinda agree with you Colin about the second half being a bit rushed (this is more evident in the collected volume than it was on the individual issues) but I think it's still got a lot of charm. That said I could have read more 'wandering' adventures in the style of the first couple of issues over and over.

Really cool cover this week, brilliant stuff.

Dredd Very nice opener, I like the tack this one is taking with someone (Vanzura?) seemingly giving evidence or otherwise critiquing Dredd... nice to see a very different take on Dredd's way of thinking. I suspect this will be a grim tale. Keen to see what happens next.

The Diaboliks This starts off better than the stuff set in Rome but I still have no reason to care about these horrible characters. The first run of Diaboliks I rather enjoyed and I'm not really sure what the difference is but very muych dislike this.

Scarlet Traces More of the same as last time out: looks incredible, moving things forward. The babys name is VERY interesting... Enjoying this a lot.

Future Shock Decent little tale, nothing outstanding but worked well for the format, cool stuff.

The Out Less keen on this episode compared to the ones we've had of late. Visually it's striking but the stuff about concerts superfans just seemed a bit... like it could have been in another strip with something potentially less interesting to say maybe? This strip seems to have settled down into a fairly lighthearted groove and whilst I appreciate it for what it is, I think it's less good than the first run for it as it all feels a bit lightweight. So it's good stuff, but I don't think it's the stunner that it started off as, if that makes sense? Anyway, solid episode here.

I'd picked up the impression we were doing them all in order, at roughly one per week?  The original order of the Puffin editions, that is (not sure when Sorcery! is going to crop up though!)

I'm up for this. Citadel of Chaos next then? I can have a go at that this weekend.

 These strips are.both so awful.
I hated Time.Flies at the time, on a re-read it's worse.
Maniac 5 is an abomination.
Can you just bin these both off out of the competition please.
