Off Topic / Sore Thumbs

I've just played six games of (10 mins each ?) Pro Evolution Soccer, and I lost all bar one, which I drew against Saudi Arabia!
See, this is why I should play more often, I need practice.

General / Admit it (you're gulity!)
09 March, 2003, 05:01:13 PM
Ok, anyone want to admit to something 2000ad related which would surprise/shock other boarders?

I'll start...

... duting the 90's (the so called bad run of 2000ad) I not only continued to purchase 2000ad, but I bought three copies each week, for 2 or 3 years. I kept one copy for myself, then tore the other two up, in order to make "collections" of the stories.
I'm ashamed to admit one of the stories I put together is Wireheads- however, I would like to point out that I've never actuall read it in either this format, or as it appeared in the original progs.

OT: I'm also ashamed to admit that I have started watching Fame Academy, which is currently being shown over here, and I actually enjoy watching them sing for survival each week.

Right, someone else's turn to embarrass themselves now!

General / Poster art special
09 March, 2003, 04:55:17 PM
Inspired by Ian Gibson's Halo Jones artwork.

If Rebellion were to release a 32 page (same size as 2000ad) special which only contained original star scans of popular characters by regular/popular artists, would you buy it?

And what/who would you like to see in it?

(I imagine that this wouldn't be feasable as the cost of each image would be very high, but my question still stands)

Can anyone tell me if Muto Maniac the strip by Mills? and McMahon which appeared for 7 issues in Toxic was ever completed?

If so, is there any chance of it being printed in the Meg? Only seven episodes of it were ever printed in Toxic and it has a certain feel to it that would fit in well with the Meg and 2000ad at the moment.

If it wasn't ever finished, how about getting it finished and publishing it anyway. I'd like to think that it could be as successful as Scarlet Traces has been.

What is the current state of play with regards to the other Cool Beans projects? Are we likely to see anymore of them in the Megazine?

Other Reviews / What comic to buy the wife!
05 March, 2003, 03:56:32 AM
With reference to Uncle's post (see link).

I'm thinking of giving my wife one trade, or one comic to read just so she can understand the fasination that I have with them.

I have NO idea what to try her out on.

She has few hobbies that convert to the comic form. TV-wise, she likes things like Friends (and other US sit-coms) and ER. British programs like "Changing Rooms" also go down well with her.

She hates Trek, but doesn't mind Buffy & Angel (but I doubt the comics would be up her street).

Any ideas?

Off Topic / Scary facts about topical news items.
04 March, 2003, 02:57:24 PM
Seem to have something from Sky News most mornings now!

This morning (04/03/03) a reporter from Sky News was talking to a high ranking British soldier currently posted in Kuwait. In the interview he stated that 85% of the troops present are outfitted with the correct Equipment.

85%!

That means 15% aren't equipped correctly to fight a war!

15% might not sound a lot BUT put this figure into context. I've just done a search to find out how many British troops are currently in Kuwait and I came back with a figure from late January that suggested 20000 troops were in the region- or on their way at that time.

15% of 20000 (forgive my maths) is something like 1300. That's 1300 men or women sent to the gulf region to fight a war with the incorrect attire or equipment.

This months SFX contains (a rather late) review of Prog 2003. Has Rennie done something to piss SFX off? He's about the only droid not mentioned!

It also has reviews of other comics that have 2000ad alumini...
Lady Constantine (Diggle)
Authority: Scorched Earth (Morrison & Irving)
War Story (Garth Ennis, Cam Kennedy, David Lloyd, Carlos Ezquerra, amongst others)

Help! / When did Ro-jaws shrink?
25 February, 2003, 09:31:06 PM
In the first episode of Robusters (in Starlord)
Ro-jaws is much, almost as large as Hammerstein. In recent episodes of ABC Warriors, he's shrunk to under ? his original size.
But when did the shrink take place?

Off Topic / FIGHT!: Tharg TMO v's King Troutman
25 February, 2003, 06:24:36 PM
Sky news this morning (very early) we're suggesting that our friends across the water want a debate between Sadam and G.W. Bush.

I want to see one between Tharg- The Mighty One, and King Trout.

Winner rules the messageboard!

Prog / Prog 1329
24 February, 2003, 03:23:42 PM
Because it's early, and no one else has started the thread yet. I thought I would as I had the chance.
I  haven't read the prog yet, but I do have one comment to make about the Input page!

Tharg places a link which is 1? lines long, for info about the Orange Games.

WTF is he playing at!!!!!!!

All he had to do was ask Wake to put a link on this very site (Tharg's own Internet Organ), for example www.2000adonline.com/orange.html
and it could have automatically jumped to the page on Orange's website.

Instead anyone how wants to look at the page, has to type THAT monstrosity.

Another point about it, is that if a user who doesn't normally visit this site, wants to read the page, they can do so and bypass this site totally.
If Tharg had used his own site, to link to the relevant page, (which could have had info about the games on it too), there is a slight chance that the irregular internet user, might have surfed these pages for a little longer too... but no.

I'm off to read my Prog!

Website and Forum / The effectiveness of polls
21 February, 2003, 02:47:24 AM
I'm pretty certain that droids look at (and probably vote on) some of the polls, but I wonder how much attention Tharg pays to them?

Some of the polls, are things that he could obviously use as valuable market research, and as ways of improving 2000ad and the Meg. But the results of the polls, are only from a small proportion of 2000ad's readership- (ie those that use this site).

Maybe Tharg should use the input page to encourage more earthlets to vote in some of the "more important" polls. Possibly even by including the polls of interest to him, in a special pull out questionaire once a quarter. If he needs someone to plug the data into a database, I'll do it.
Heh! I've not got anything better to do right now anyway.

And what is 2000ad's single most heinous crime?

General / Original 2000AD art styles
18 February, 2003, 02:03:54 PM
Just wondering which 2000ad artists (past & present) bring a TOTALY UNIQUE art style to 2000ad (that has  later been atopdted by other artists).

I'll have a go...
McMahon
Bolland
Kennedy?
Bisley
(sadly) Shakey Kane and Siku(well, they're unique, but thankfully I can't recall anyone trying to copy their styles)
Irving

Who else has pushed the boundries?

Prog / Kawl me ignorant...
14 February, 2003, 03:51:44 AM
Beccy's reference to the answer to The Unviersal Truth being 42.... where have I heard that before???

Liked the Mat Pills joke!- Careful!

I could enjoy this a lot more if I didn't feel stoopid 'cause I miss ? the references.

Last panel.... I don't get it.... see, makes me feel ignorant!
