Sorry, no points this month for CJ Hershey, as she doesn't make an appearance.

The correct results have now been posted. Byron still wins this month, and therefore is currently the overall winner. BUT as stated there's still 11 more months to run!

The first month's competition draws to a close with the publication of this weeks prog (1423).

So with that in mind, we can announce the winner of this month's competition. BUT he's only 1/12 of the way to winning.

So congratulations go out to Byron Virgo for coming first in the January stakes.

February will see a number of series draw to a close, so will his team continue to fair as well?

Will the first Extreme Edition to be included in this years league help people (remember only original stories and the cover count for the Extreme Edition)?

Easy answers:

NO Modesty doesn't count on 2 grounds.
1) it's part of a text article and
2) It's a reprint.

NO It's not Hershey. Look at the badge, it's Judge Stuyvesant who also appeared in Total War- shame I was hoping for points there  too when I first saw her.

Incidently, Metro Dredd artists and Dredd-verse characters who turn up in Metro Dredd do NOT count, as Metro Dredd is also a reprint. Sorry!

Of course they count, you aquatic fool- you think I'd try to bugger up my chances of winning by putting a Dredd-verse character in my team, and then rule it pointless????

My ideal team, or the team I picked?
The latter you can see on the teams page (linked below).

My Ideal team, would depend on the rules: if money wasn't a limit, and depending on the formations allowed, and whether rules such as dredd in his own script, reprints, Dredd scriptdroids. If money wasn't a limit, and all the other rules mentioned above were in place, I'd probably go for 3-4-3 formation....

... at this point, I was going to pull an ideal team out of the air, but I've played around with the stats so much, that my head aches, and I no longer have a clear view of who would make the best team---- certainly my inital "Ideal team" has since changed. I'd now base it much more on what I KNOW is going to appear, and then weigh up a few of the averages.

The best place to score the most points would probably be from scriptdroids (although Dredd as a goalkeeper would seem like a safe bet for points too) then you need to strike a balance between 2000ad and Meg appearances. Rennie, Abnett, Grant, Mills, Spurrier all seem fairly "regular" and this was reflected in their price. Morrison, Smith and Williams both look like they're going to be busy this year too.

One useful tool I used when picking my team, was looking to see what various droids had created, and weighed up if I thought it was likely they's appear in the coming year.

Abnett is a workhorse- who churns out tales for 2000ad, likewise Grant for the Meg... but in both cases, they have few (if any) stories published in "the other" comic.

Rennie and Mills are boardline, working for both titles, but their price for me makes them slightly less attractive (that and the fact that Rennie's Dredd scripts don't count).

Next time... "How to put a pencil monkey in in a number 7 shirt!"

At one point we toyed with the idea of making Sinister and Dexter count as one choice, but quickly decided that they served as a double edged sword- get points for both, or not at all- at the potential cost of another character.

When designing my team, I knew there were certain people I wanted to get in- sure fire bets- but quickly discovered that our own rules made my ideal team impossible (it cost too much). So I looked into who I thought were going to appear most- in both the meg and 2000ad (as well as EE) and picked who I thought was value for money. I also hunted the message board high and low looking for tit-bits as two which characters, writers and artists were set to appear in 2005.

There's a reason for DXB having one less player. There was an error in his team submission. I've emailed and called for him to contact me a number of times, but for one reason or another, we seem to have missed each other. As soon as I get a reply from him, I'll allow him to place his final player. PROVIDED IT IS DONE VERY VERY SOON. Otherwise I'll delete his ass!

As well as the chance to groan at what you might have missed.

We'll be adding a statistics page soon.

There is a rule, which I have forgotten to add.

It didn't feel important at the time, however since the new rules initial introduction, we have decided that prizes will be awarded (as and when we get them).

With this in mind, the rule is as follows.

Each person is only allowed to enter ONE team. If you have entered more than one team, under a different user name, then please contact me to have one of the teams removed.
Anyone failing to do this, who then gets caught will have ALL their teams removed from the league, and any prizes will be disallowed.

Cheers
