General / Shrinky-dinks???
20 March, 2003, 08:09:01 PM
Anyone remember these, used to come in Shreddies in the 80's, colour them in, punch a hole in them, then shrink them in the oven.

Anyone still got any?

More importantly, and getting the message on topic...

... were there ever any 2000ad related ones?

Don't mind the bottom missing, not so sure about the top.
I have noticed 1) when refreshing, I still get a grey bar at the bottom of the page where the frame used to be (should this still happen?)
and 2) When I post a message, the confirmation popup is empty (no thumbs up or down).

VC's: Oh, dear god, it's gone Tits & Arse! 1) Williams artwork is too cartoony for it to work in this strip (sorry Ant, but I'm not a huge fan generally). 2) More realistic computer backgrounds- for me, they just don't gel with the artwork. Compare this, to Langley's cover, or recent Slaine run. That works, this doesn't. I can see what Abnett is trying to do here, but for me, it doesn't work. If someone where to ask me, I'd think the first of the comeback series (Flint) was by one scriptdroid, and this was by another. It's going downhill for me, and needs to be picked up quickly, before it deteriorates into sludge.

Ant: seeing has how you've started this thread, I thought I'd reiterate my 1332 post.
RE: VC's in general, I would suggest that as Art has said, the biggest problem is the script, and not the artwork. As I previously mentioned, I don't think the CGI effects that you have done work as well as (f.e.) Langley's Slaine CGI. Although I think this maybe down to the way I believe your more "cartoony" style doesn't mix well with the realistic photo backgrounds.
I don't think that your style suits my expectations for this strip, and there-in lies another part of my problem with the artwork. You've mentioned that you also draw Scooby-Doo. I haven't seen or read this, BUT i can imagine your style matching this strip very well. As I believe it did with Kola Kommados, which I enjoyed (am I the only one?).

I'd be quite interested to see your take on DR & Quinch actually (How about an image of them for this site???).

I wonder what other squaxx would like to see you draw?

Maybe Saddam should use them :-)

Odd: I didn't think Saddam had anything that was powerful enough to reach UK from Iraq.

But if he did, how come if he attacks UK or the US, it's classed as an act of terrorism, but if US/UK attack Iraq, it's war?

If there is a chemical or biological attack, anyone know what the "life" of these chemicals are? How long before an attacked area is safe again?

SG: by "lim edit booklet", do you mean Quality/Fleetway, Eagle Presents, or Quality Presents reprints- perchance?

You could always advertise them in the classifieds section of this site.

There's a monkey in a hat in two of Captain Klep's stories in tooth. He appears in Progs 143 & 144.

Oh, and the animated flange doesn't help....

... not very inviting for newbies either, given what a "flange" is (as commented by a few in the chatroom)- It means the same to me too.

I've noticed a few problems, similar to pvs.

I have been known to use the lurk feature too- but if it has to go, then so be it.

Did you find out about caching the icons (IIRC this was something Barney was going to look into)- would it help?

What about replacing all the "instructions" on the left with a simple help button, which if pressed, would open up the same instructions into a small pop-up window, like the thumbs up/down one used for message and voting confirmation? (Could the same feature then be applied to the user list and icons?)
