Having just tried to change my name from tulkas to Tulkas I discovered that i already existed. Damn lower-case!

Well to preserve my limited individuality I've changed my name to Thermos. Why? Surprisingly it was the least idiotic of my options.

Not that it matters really 'cos I'm new to the board but i thought I'd clarify that i am nothing to do with this earlier Tulkas just in case he was a bit of a Keane.

I hope the rumour about Siku not attending due to the criticism leveled at his recent Dredd on this board isn't true.

We all have to deal with criticism in its various forms and the best thing to do is rise above it and not take it personally.

It would be a shame if he felt unwelcome due to a few people views.

Well I enjoyed Dreddcon and didn't drink a drop or even go into the bar.

Just saw some great artwork in the flesh - Simon Coleby's stuff was particularly impressive

Stumped Ian Gibson by not asking for sketch and just using the time to say thanks in person for selling me some great Halo Jones pages last year. Nice guy.

Listened to some lively panels in a lovely comfy chair and went home due to other commitments.

Not bad for a return ticket to Oxford and ?2.50 on the door (though I didn't get a heroclix figure!)

Plan on getting a hotel for Bristol - or whatever?s next - so I can attend a shedcon and see if the amiable chaps I met are as amiable after a couple.

Out of curiosity i had a look at the yahoo artdroids group, but found when i tried to join my membership was refused.

What are the requirements for membership then. Do you have to have been published in tooth or just published in general? Do you have to actually show you can draw or is this just a friends only thing?

It should have been.

"Is there a teenage group that seperates itself from the majority of its peers NOW?"

The alerternate becomes the norm and the next generations finds it hard to come up with the shock of the new.

Is there a teenage group that seperates itself from the majority of its peers?

I see loads of Goths/punks - Goth 'Thugs' apparently - loads of Skaters/Grunge boyz, and loads of designer gear townies.

The only group that seems to be in the minority - infact in danger of dying out - is the My-mum-still buys-my-clothes geeks.

And more power to them.

I've always found most of the artists to be quite amiable about sketching as long as you catch them at the right time i.e. don't butt in when they're obviously having a private conversation with their mates.

Ian Gibson, Carlos Esquerra, Glen Fabry and D'israeli get a special mention, as they were particularly nice to chat to - especially Carlos who went and found a piece of paper to sketch on rather than let me down. A gem. (Also a cautionary tale about taking your own paper)

The double-arse grumpy git award is split between Simon Bisley and Bill Sienkiewicz (sp).

But over 15 years of attending cons they have been the exception to the nice guy rule.

Off Topic / Re: Who likes His Dark Materials?....

I don't think it's wrong for adults to read these books - especially to their children - just rather odd against the huge wealth of supposed 'adult' literature they could choose from. Has it something to do with the eternally young attitude that has become more and more the norm or just a want to recapture our childhoods like friendsreunited.com caters for?

I like the fact that there is a wealth of great material being written for kids, but since my balls dropped i haven't read childrens fiction no matter what social pressures are brought to bear.

Childrens books that are ok for adults to read to themselves are a strange concept for me.

Amused by Arts comment i went looking on the web for moomins and found this fact at Moominshop.com.

moomintroll: anti-fascist streetfighter
it is quite fitting that a young moomintroll appeared for the first time in
public as tove jansson's emblem in an anti-hitler cartoon which was
published in the late 1930s.

You live and learn.
