tore it a new one.

See now a review like that would mean a passion and an involvement with the franchise that the other sequels knocked out of me.

For me it's too bland to actively dislike. It's the kind of film that when it turns up on the beeb on some future xmas day I will find something else to do, so as not to waste more of my time.

Film & TV / POTC: On Stranger Tides

Went last night with high hopes having avoided any reviews.

What can i say? Watchable, but dull. Similar to the other sequels in being long, drawn-out with no real oomph! pushing the story on.

A visual feast as expected, but imagine being served up a huge, juicy, over-staked New York deli style sandwich, only to bite into it and discover it tastes of slightly stale white bread throughout, though you're now commited to slaving your way through it.

That said, if you were already planning on seeing it this weekend, do. It will pass the time.

Was that the little girl that was dressed as Wonder Woman?

I'm overly sentimental, and that was SO cute.

apparently Dunk eluded me).

I fear I eluded a number of folks I would've liked to have said hi to.

(Embarrassingly long ramble about being too drunk for introductions on the Sat night edited out)

Hopefully Brum will correct this?

CineBook's trading address is in Canterbury, giving my old hometown some much needed comic kudos.

Sweet.

Having read other folks stories I'm prepared to concede that on the Small Press/Creator Owned front I may have just been really unlucky with the tables I approached. But I feel some of my comment stands true.

Some of the other things mentioned here are suddenly coming back to me...

Two negative things that sit on my mind:

Hey! Creators, when you're asked to be on a panel why not give thought to whether you have anything to say or can actually say it out to a room and not down to your knees? Just a thought. Also when someone on a panel says they had no love or fond memories of the subject of the panel it's funny, for a moment, then just stupid.

Notable exceptions: The Lovecraft panel and the Small Press panel.

And to all Small Press/Creator Owned (I went to the panel) folks! You've paid for the table, you've lugged the produce across the country, you've lovingly set it out, why not engage with the public in an attempt to sell what you've put so much effort into?

The conversation I went through about twelve times:

Approach the table.

Vender:  (Silence)

Flick through the merchandise

Vender:  (Silence)

Me: (being awfully English and filling the silence) So this is self-published?

Vender: Yeah...

Me: And you're the writer? Artist?

Vender: Yeah...

Me: (struggling) And this is the first few issues collected?

Vender: Yeah...

Me: Erm...(Suddenly glad of the arrival of a fellow Small Presser/ Creator Owned (I went to the panel) who engages the vendor in a burst of personal chat that allows me to slink away)

NO SALE.

Now when I go to a con I take with me what I call "Silly Money":  money set aside for me to plough into the Small Press/ Creator Owned (I went to the panel) market on spontaneous purchases, as I feel it's a great thing, deserves my support and gives me the best surprises when it comes to my post con reading stack. Not this time.

I thought the point would be to sell your wares, expand your fan base and maybe generate some positive word-of-mouth? I may be wrong.

Notable exceptions: (though they might not be technically Small Press or Creator Owned (blah blah) Cinebooks: could have brought their backlog for the passion and friendliness of the vender, D'israeli: amiable and as engaging as ever and left me wanting to buy his stuff even though I have it all, and the "Tales of the Spiffing" vendor: who was great and left my book behind his table to collect signatures from the creators as they passed.

Just to reiterate though: The socialising element was aces.

That gave me a great con.

Yeah, the social side was the best bit for me.

Loads of laughs and a gaggle of really good folks generating them.

I'd go again simply to sit in the bar and get merry (though The Mecure rooms were surprisigly nice).

Thanks to all who made it what it was.

Hungover yet happy Dunk!

Ps. Con criticisms will be agreed with if others voice them.

Cheers for the feedback.

My friend has been duly dispatched to count his fuckin 2000ads and then buy the required boxes.

Next up his Eagle 2000ad reprints needing rehousing, but those should be easy.

I'm hearing rumblings that the 2012 London Olympics will be used to stage a "global event"

Wait, isn't that rumour moot due to the world having already ended by then, as predicted by The Space Mayans?

Help! / Boxing 2000ad
11 May, 2011, 09:46:49 AM
Quick question:

How many copies of the original papery 2000ad can one get into those purpose built 2000ad/magazine boxes?

A friend of mine wants to re-box a huge trunk of old 2000ads this weekend and needs to estimate how many boxes that would take.

Cheers in advance.

Yeah, there's this one just announced:

http://www.thecomicsshow.co.uk/2011BC/index.html

And this one which is more about getting into the industry:

http://www.comicslaunchpad.com/comicslaunchpad/home.html

I have tickets to both due to being a convention whore at the moment.

Unlucky.

I think I just about slid under the closing ticket door (snatching my hat through afterwards) a few weeks back when I realised that Brum was no go this year.

Then they announced two different events for Brum. :\

I'm down early on Saturday and off on Sunday, so expecting Saturday night bar-related shenanigans.
