Speaking of art droids operating under two similar name, I present Steve Bisley and Simon Bisley ;)

I do remember a Steve Bisley glitch - the first episode of the Black Hole possibly?  Alan Grant was also got a writing credit for an episode of Zenith too.

Just been re-reading Halo Jones.  Halo: 'So what do you have stencilled on your stomach?' Rodice:  'This way up.'  It's a very early prog sex joke, isn't it?  Or have I got a filthy mind?

It's not something that ever occurred to me.  You could try asking Mr Moore what his intention was - I'm sure he'd be only too happy to field questions about Halo after all these years :D

I'll compliment him on the LXG movie first.

I'm trying to think of some kind of mad crossover with Slaine. Was he in Helter Skelter?

He was indeed - the only Ezquerra Sláine I've ever seen, I think.

If it's like the Kevin Bacon game, then I believe it's actors in movies (rather than writers etc.), so we should stick to characters in stories.

I can do Shako to The V.C.s like this:

The V.C.s fight the Geeks - a Geek is in The Collector (Armoured Gideon) with Shako. Shako Number: 2

Aye, I was going to suggest that connecting by creator makes the game a bit too easy. A lot of writers have had a crack at Dredd over the years.

Firekind. That alien torturer lad. Pussyfoot 5. Devlin Waugh. Dredd. Shako.

General / The Pit Audiobook
19 March, 2021, 02:07:57 PM
I've got through all the Penguin audiobooks now, and The Pit is pretty darned good.
Unlike America and Halo Jones, there's a third-person narrator here, and it works well too - there's just too much action and too many characters to follow without it.

This is just as frantic but tightly plotted as the comic, and the actors do the job nicely.  Dredd's slightly-softer-than-expected voice suits the desk-job sector chief Dredd better than the fascist authoritarian of the  America audiobook, and while it's not as good as Karl Urban's masterful version, it's much better than Toby Longworth's (no offence to Mr Longworth; but I think his other characters were better than his Dredd).

In fact, Guthrie sounds a bit more like the Dredd of the old audiobooks and the game. I'd have imagined him as a fast-talking street punk type, but it's not a problem.  Star of the show for me is, unexpectedly, Fonzo Bongo!  As an odd blend of Shaggy from Scooby Doo and Scarface, it can't be an easy one to pull off, but he fecking nails it.

Hoping they do more of these audiobooks; it's looking more and more like I'm going to buy any they put out.

I'd imagine Phil the Greek misses the days when the Irish joke was deemed the most suitable one for him to read out.  Great find though!

Great stuff - thanks for posting.  I never read Tornado but wasn't his name Big E, rather than Big Ed?  I seem to remember Big Ed being some kid editor character in one of the Buster / Whizzer and Chips type comics.

Yeah, I remember him as Big E too.
If that comic had launched in the 90s I'm sure it would have gained a cult following.... ;)

Played by 90s Grant Morrison, presumably (not that I was an angel in the 90s either).

Aha! My apologies  :)  Will definitely keep listening; thanks for doing them!

No need for apologies at all! Just making sure you knew that this Nugent isn't making her ancestors roll in their graves :)

😀 Fair play, should have guessed from the surname you were one of our own

Still waiting for the explanation why Hot-Shot Hamish is from Newcastle now.

😳 when did that happen - I preferred Hot shot to Roy back in the day probably because it was more funny.

Me too; I wasn't much of a football fan but I liked the funny strips.  The name Hamish, though - you'd kind of expect a Scotsman, wouldn't you?

Thanks, Edie!  Happy Paddy's Day* - it's definitely a thing here in Ireland  ;).  Not so much this year, of course, but I have a day off.

Looking forward to the newest podcast - I'll save it for work tomorrow, I think.

*Nobody this side of the Atlantic calls it 'Patty's'  :P

Off Topic / Re: Day of Chaos 2: a.Covid-19 thread.

One of my brothers is vaccinated; the other isn't.  The latter's manager felt 'feverish' in his own words but decided to come to work anyway, interacting with all the other staff, before going home early sick.  Test results aren't in yet, but it's not looking good for everyone that works there.  It's an animal sanctuary, so there may well be a lot of animals going unfed for weeks.

This is indeed a hard one.  Obviously mine are by far the best*, but I can't vote myself, so...

1 - Dark Jimbo (by a whisker)
2 - Tomwe 2
3 - Jim 2

HM - Bolt

*No they're not.

General / Re: Dredd Epics Ranked - Better! Round 7
17 March, 2021, 12:32:35 PM
Aye, there's a whole other thread about what makes a Dredd story an 'epic'.  I've just gone with my three favourites too, and it's a snappier name for the tournament than Long Dredd Stories Ranked.
