Quote from: Hawkmumbler on 21 August, 2023, 07:48:21 AMMillionaires Movie Club is a satellite repost repository for well known huckster and all around misogyny mine Fresh and Fit podcast (just checking the popular uploads page will be enough to give any level headed person an aneurism) so yeah. Cheers for proliferating that sort of thing.

Sorry. Genuinely. Should have checked both the source and the context.  (I'm still not entirely sure of the context, if anyone has a bit more information.)

General / Longest-serving art droid?
21 August, 2023, 07:17:51 AM
I think it's fair to say the longest-serving script droid still active is, since the departure of Pat Mills, John Wagner.  And we're incredibly lucky to have him.

I was just musing to myself while reading Dreadnoughts, though - was Ezquerra the last of the prog 1 artists?  Is John Higgins now the droid who's been there longest?  It's mad when I think back to how his Dredds were an intrinsic part of my childhood, and how he's still here, as good as he ever was.  Or am I missing someone?

But, sure ... RAGE! They're trying to steal our sums!

Despite my sweariness, I can't say I felt rage at all.  More irritation and incredulity.

I've just stumblef across the nicest beer garden ever - looking through flowers over the river Boyne, with a ruined abbey on the far bank. I can't have a drink because  I'm on the motorbike, but my best mate and his wife have coincidentally just bought a house down the road and don't realise they have such a nice local, so I might just be inviting myself soon.

That Braveheart castle is just down the road but you can't see it from here.

What the absolute fuck is that all about? Maths is now just a subjective opinion? Shit off.

:) Girley Bog is just down the road from my folks' house and I've been there countless times - never really thought about how weird the name was till now.   But yeah, there's a lot more happening in the town these days - hopefully there'll be something similar soon.

I bought the first ever softcover trilogy back when they came out first - they quickly fell apart though; partly because of my repeat readings of them and partly because of the shite binding.

Then I bought that really cheap promotional hardback one a few years ago - it burned, of course, along with everything else I owned on the boat I used to live on.

This looks lovely though.  I'm not much of a collector, preferring just to read stuff rather than let stuff accumulate in my very small cabin, but The Horned God is something of a treasured memory, so I might just splash out on those lovely three hardbacks.

Yesterday I decided to bring the old Lawmaster down to my parents' house for a visit.  Coincidentally, I get a text saying that the old girls' school (now a very nice venue and coffee shop) is hosting a mini-sci fi convention, featuring Mike Carroll, among others.  Which is seriously impressive for a very small and unremarkable town in the middle of Ireland.

When I got there, however, I was a bit too late and all I saw were some Ghostbusters packing their wares up.  Bah indeed - I wanted to ask Mike if he really had called Chief Judge Walsh after me (you never know- he made my old neighbour and ex-forum member Johnnystress and his brother into Dredd bad guys).

Oddly, the only time I met Mike before was also in my hometown (Kells, if you're interested - a famous old book was found here and that's about all we're known for).  He was giving a talk about Dredd for a literary festival and he was excellent, getting the audience booing for the likes of Orlok who they'd never heard of.  He was lovely to chat to afterwards too.  Ah well - maybe he'll turn up here again in another 6 years.

McMahon, even. Feck sake.

Quote from: The Legendary Shark on 10 August, 2023, 09:49:34 AMSounds grim, but at least you now have a base of operations from where to look for something better.

Not easy with the out-of-control rent crisis in Dublin but it's definitely an advantage to have any kind of base at all to plan ahead.

Aw man, sorry, Paddy.  Just when things were on the up.  Sadly I think you're not far off some kind of drop-in centre or methadone clinic in that area.  Although it's a sad state to see so many junkies in Dublin and the system has obviously let them down, they can also be incredibly selfish and intrusive.

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 07 August, 2023, 02:06:13 PMRobin Smith surely? Either way up I'll be a happy squaxx.

A new Ron Smith strip would be quite a coup... :(

But, yes, a new strip by John and Robin, plus I've re-lettered the whole of the 56-page "Casablanca" story, because the chaps weren't really happy with original lettering.

Now I'm trying to picture what a Ron Smith Bogie Man would look like. Pretty amazing, in my imagination at least.

Looking forward to the return anyway. He's a character in a million.
