Well, I'm late to the party as usual, not really having given much thought to a sitcom about two men walking round fields.  But I've just watched the whole thing in the space of a week, and feck me, what a joy to behold this show is. I was kind of mentally labelling it as 'not really laugh-out-loud funny' till I found myself laughing out loud numerous times.  And also finding tears streaming down my face with some of the more emotionally moving sections.

You'd be hard pressed to get a better final episode too - everyone gets a nice ending without any kind of oversentimentality, and the very last scene is somehow very ironic and very uplifting at the same time.  (And the revelation of the theme song's last verse - I hadn't noticed that the singer had been summarising the story all along. Wonderful.)

I still enjoy Sinister Dexter. And I'm enjoying this. And I love the reveal, even though it's out of sync with known timelines.

So there!

A differing opinion? Get out.

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 20 July, 2023, 08:15:43 AMI know it doesn't move in real time like Dredd, but a lot has happened in the meantime - even Billi Octavo must be pushing middle age by now.

Well, they had that dimension/timeline hopping storyline a few years back, which ended with a reset...

I thought it was the universe(s) around them that reset, while they stayed the same. Admittedly I can't quite remember what exactly happened there.

It was the end of "The Taking of the Michael" (2015) - they wiped Moses Tanenbaum from reality - but it was the Moses from another reality. If they didn't kill him, reality itself would collapse. (Comics, huh?) When Moses 2.0 was killed, something weird happened and it was as if Sin & Dex had no criminal record anymore, and none of the Downlode people knew who they were.

They stayed the same, they didn't time travel - nobody de-aged.

THanks, that's kind of how I remember it.  Since then I haven't been paying too much attention to the details.  The last time I remember being hugely engaged was when it seemed Sinister would have to kill a paralysed Dexter, and I'd also thought that Dickensian Christmas one where they were skeletons was some kind of dark and portentous vision of their future, dripping with symbolism.

Turned out Sinister's actual rescue of Dexter was just as daft as the fantasy one he'd dreamed up to escape from his sense of desperation, and the prophetic story only happened because Simon had asked Dan if he could draw them as skeletons for one story.

Thanks, guys, really appreciate it.  Last time I came off them I was living the life of Reilly in Thailand, till I came home and realised I was broke, jobless, forced to live with my parents at the age of 37 and realising I there was no way I could live that life again.

These days, I have a nice little wooden cabin in a place where I used to travel to just to enjoy the scenery, a job I don't mind, and a bit of money (not loads, but my rent is cheap).  I listen to David Burns' CBT podcast every week and have a bucketload of tools with which to do battle with the Dark Side.  So, fingers crossed.

I'm finally making an effort to come off my meds and rely on my own CBT written work.  Last time ended in a total meltdown but i feel I have a lot more stability and CBT resources in my life these days.

Withdrawal feels like occasional giant bees flying through my head (only those who have experience will get it) but I'd reduced my intake significantly already so it's not the full-on swarm it used to be.

I'll see how it goes anyway, if nothing else it'll save a bit of money on GPs and prescriptions in the short term.

30 years old... ruddy heck.  I still think of it as one of the newer straps. Which leads me to ponder, how old do you think Sinister and Dexter are now? I seem to remember they were 28 around the time Dexter was at the shrink talking about his childhood.

I know it doesn't move in real time like Dredd, but a lot has happened in the meantime - even Billi Octavo must be pushing middle age by now.

Quote from: Barrington Boots on 15 July, 2023, 10:49:13 PMVery exciting to get a Saturday Prog but also very deflated by the Azimuth reveal.

I've not given up on it but it seemed liked something fresh and fun and SinDex has been, on the whole, pants for ages so it's gone from a must read thrill to ho-hum in a couple of pages.

There have been a few good SinDexes in recent years but the long, melodramatic, po-faced ones generally aren't my thing. I was re-reading some of the very old ones recently and realised they were more in the vein of D.R. and Quinch - witty, chaotic, violent, fast-moving and fun. Maybe it's just a touch of prostalgia.  Still interested to see where this one goes.

Yayy! Been looking forward to this for ages. Conrad Leiden:  the Ted Lasso of British comics :)

P.S. My favourite moment was when your little English boy character suddenly became a big English man to reflect the ageing readership, while simultaneously dropping a hint about a major plot twist. 'OI LOIKE TITS NAHH. OI LOIKE JUDGE DREDD WIV HIS SKIN BURNED OFF.' Still makes me laugh!

I saw this fear written by someone or other on the Internet and now it's passed on to me.  Those of a squeamish disposition should not continue.

You're walking past spiked railings on a frosty day and suddenly you slip. You land face first on the spikes and two are driven into your eyes. So, impaled optically on the railings, you struggle to pull yourself up. But it's still icy, so the more your struggle the more your feet slide about so you just have to stay there.

Sorry.

A Scottish man tells Richard Madely about the snobbery of people who make prejudiced assumptions about those with strong accents.  Madely responds by expressing his surprise about how articulate the man is despite the accent. Now over to Sidekick Simon.

To quote my neighbour, I think there's a sniper with a stun gun behind the TV.   I know what he means - I must accept the fact that every future night in I have will always result in my waking up cramped and cold on the sofa at 3.40.

Oh feck. My mind!
No, wait, hang on.  The Manson-type group thought metal robots were weird and unnnatural, so my mind is unfecked again.

Quote from: The Legendary Shark on 11 July, 2023, 06:47:31 PMHm. Better to lose a ship and two robots than a ship and two humans, surely? Plot hole for definite.

Also no exercise machines, food, drinking and showering water needed.  Knowing that plot hole has made the whole thing a little bit less impactful for me, and I'm glad of that, as it fucked with my head quite a bit.
