So, is it something to do with being a clone or something that Dredd doesn't feel desire for women? Or is it just the suppressant drugs mentioned in one of the Rico Mark 2 stories? Or is Dredd just a large gay?

'Don't call me Miss Belchard... MY NAME IS KEEF!'

Also John Wagner's alter-ego in the Dead Man. And next question... what was the surname of the Keef who supposedly wrote The Dead Man?

Hey, hey, guys, guys. Let's get back to my excellent thread again. I'm copying an old 2000ad annual question here, but:
If it wasn't Jose, who was it?

Better give the answer to my own question there - that bird in Metalzoic. Not sure if it's word for word, but she used the word 'john'. In summary, i don't really know the answer to my own question.

I'm sure this was done before, but a whoever answers wins the right to ask the next question. There will be fuckups of course, caused by simultaneous posting. Never mind, eh?

Anyway, I'll start the ball rolling - Who in 2000ad described civilisation as 'being able to find a john whenever you need one?'

General / Best current non-2000ad comic?

Just curious, because I don't really read any other ones, though I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there. Apart from 'D and the Megazine, the only other comic  I read is self-professed 'toilet grin-mag' Viz

Actually read the Max Punishers and the non-Max ones. I kind of figured the Max ones were more adult, c-words flying and balls cut off and put in paper cups and the like. Was referring to the non-Max ones really; there wasn't a rating on the cover of the graphic novels

NEver really got too heavily into American comics myself, though I used to read X-Men and Spiderman when i was very young, about 5 years old. But, as I've recently mentioned, I got a batch of Punisher graphic novels from my flatmate.
Now, I'd always imagined the non-mature readers DC and Marvel comics were don't reach the levels of sex, nudity, ultra-violence and general non-kiddy material that 2000ad does. But on reading the Punisher, I notice things like a man accidentally shagging his ma, the same man being shagged by a huge psychotic gay man from prison who keeps body parts in his fridge, a giant Russian bloke with huge tits, and loads of brain-bursting, limb ripping, and (in Wolverine's case) genital-destroying violence.
I know they have ratings on them these days but I'm just wondering, are general readership Marvel comics aimed at a higher age group than DC?  I remember the old ones being fairly kiddy-friendly, but maybe i missed all the dirty parts back in the day.

General / Re: Johnny Alpha - Dead or Alive?....

Another thing; the Gronk and Feral killing all the Lyran wizards in one go was shite and all. They were great characters, weird and seemingly untouchable. It totally destroyed their mystique, dragging them down into a sub-Tarantino guns and guts fest.
As was Feral's dad being a Lyran wizard. Why does the bad guy always have to be the good guy's dad, or brother, or whatever? It worked for Johnny (and Luke Skywalker for that matter) in the early 80's, but by the time Garth Ennis got round to it it was just cliched and, to use the Dredd files' favourite adjective, ho-hum.

But, as the man said, these things didn't happen.

'Even when Ennis had the Gronk kill him again, it still worked.'

No, no, no, no. There was absolutely no need for it. The whole point of the Gronk was to balance out the tough guy attitude of the other characters. Having him become a hard man and kill Johnny again, after what was a perfectly fine death the first time, was just shit.
