Sorry, indigo, but I have nothing to apologize for when it's all true. Check by all data what country is the biggest polluter of all. And don't even get me started on Muslim death camps and treatment of black people.

At least West does something when it comes to alleviating toxic fumes, recycling materials etc

That first image is disgusting.

But I'll keep if more people keep to smaller things, we'll get somewhere. Unfortunately, some issues are out of our hands. For biggest polluters on the planet, I don't see China taking a hit for it. As if they live in industrial revolution from the 19th century. And considering they eat every living animal, God only knows where those carcasses end up.

Bleeding hell, I just found the sad, tragic news about Uncle Dick. May he RIP. And what a filmography! The Omen, Superman, Lethal Weapon, Maverick, Scrooged, Goonies... If only he did LW5.

William F. Nolan, author of Logan's Run died. RIP as well.

I think we all can do something by starting from small things. Use recycled materijala, drive tecnologically advanced cars, people who organize massive clean-up, don't dumb the garbage in the middle of a street etc. I am sure we are all aware of it. Climate is definitely fucked up for sure, but I don't believe in global warming. I believe in global pollution. Factories that inject toxic amounts of toxic gasses in the ether. Not good. Whittle down global pollution and you'll solve global warming.

12 Monkeys

When I saw this movie as a teenager, it quickly became one of my favorites. Although I hadn't really grasped then how deep, and ambitious and thought-provoking this is. I was carried away by interesting premise, performance (Brad Pitt absolutely nailed playing a total wacko and Bruce Willis showed something greater than being a cop over finding himself over his head) and Terry Gilliam's regular off eat, zany director, rife with grotesque humor and wide, Dutch angles. And I like how the movie offers a statement on insanity, hardly I heard in another movie where psychiatry is compared to a religious cult. Anyway, arguably, one of the best 1990s films.

I wonder if Bioshock Infinite took inspiration from 12 Monkeys... (but that's just me imagining too much).

Colin, I know this is a bit off-topic, how you managed to get those Sgt Rock issues? I went once to amazon, but couldn't find any in print.

Do you mean the Showcase Presents issues - if so I'm afraid I can't be much help as I got them when they first came out.

Oh, I mean on those two, second image from the above, next right to the The Haunted Tank.

I'm really luckly I have a whole room set aside form my comics. I even did a whole thread when we moved into our current house and I started doing it out.

https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=39695.msg798391#msg798391

we also had an old thread about how other folks stored their comics which might be full of useful tips?

I remember this as one of the greatest inspirational speeches, regardless the form and context.

Even with all drawbacks in life, I believe there is always a reason to move forward. I mean, look at me, I was deeply sorrowful two weeks ago over the ending of Bioshock Infinite the main and both eps. And such things can make an impact on me (like Spiderman Night Gwen Stacy Died), but I figured I shouldn't feel fucked up over such trite bollocks. Life is more richful and diverse than that. Bottom line, there's always a reason to move forward. If there's not, create one.

Gone Baby Gone

Gripping Ben Affleck's directorial debut. And he really made his brother Casey shine in this thriller. The whole thing behind a missing girl wasn't of much interest to me, but I liked the complexity of the entire piece, seen through the main character's eyes. And Ben pretty well uses the cesspit, gritty areas of Boston for that. What I especially liked here is that the movie ends, while on a bittersweet note, it at least divulges from the typical Hollywood lemonade happy endings and imho, the conclusion here is the only possible solution. I wish if just Ben made better use of Michelle Monaghan's character who, only starts to get through in the last ten minutes; otherwise, she's wasted.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

I re-read FrankMiller's All Star Batman. Once again, it felt like watching an exhilarating train wreck. Too much of everything, but full of nothing, that is. I don't know if it's the worst Miller (Holy Terror and TDKSA come pretty close). Admittedly, there are moments where Miller's brilliance shines through but often is dragged beneath, like a drowning man desperately clinging to the surface only to be smothered, again and again. The whole ten-issue arc is so damn slow, and a five-issue would finish the job at hand. As if the All-Star moniker served for a bunch of characters to cram in. On top of that, you know you are in trouble when you read a psychopathic teenage brat Batman. And while I am fond of his Dirty Harry impersonations, more often, t felt like a parody of the character, where Miller thought it'd be so cool to have Batman uttering "I am the goddamn Batman." Unfortunately, the comic is full of those (un)remarkable moments (read cringe), all memorable for all the wrong reasons. Batman having sex with Black Canary...ugh. Personally, I'm not too fond of romance in superheroes. And I got what Miller tried to do. That Batman is a kid who needs another kid to grow up. Such story is already done, and it's done better - in Dark Victory. Robin, along with the Batgirl, might be the best-done characters. Everyone else... Vicky Vale acts as a dumb bimbo (who holds animosity over Batman because he doesn't fly, but faints over Bruce Wayne), Black Canary and Wonder Woman are misandric twats, and Superman...well - damn! And yes, the goddamn Batman.

I have never been a big fan of TDKR, but that comic at least had some quality, and I appreciate what Miller did at that time. Elektra Assassin, TDKR, Year One, and DD Born Again (btw, my favorites are the latter two), and all four feel a bit different from each other, and with all artistic integrity. It's sad to see how low Miller has fallen since then.

On a brighter note about ASB, the artwork is a real treat, and I date to say, it's the best Lee's job to date. And as a small bonus, I like how the pages unfold when Batman takes Robin for the first time to the Batcave. The part with the cop cars being destroyed, all that havoc and ruckus - it blew my mind.  Too bad Lee had to waste his talents in garbage like this.

Digressing from the thread, if I ever thought that England (and solely) England could sway the World and European championship in recent years, that would be (well, not exactly recently) circa mid to late 2000s. Gerrard (and his wife sunbathing in France - thanks DM), Lampard, Terry, Rooney, Crouch, Owen, Beckham... Those were superstars of the sport.

I am waiting for the device that can render people and things invisible, ever since HG Wells; now I am obsessed over it.

I kind of liked the way the ending bucked the superhero trend a bit -
It's entirely within the hands of the bad guys whether Batman lives or dies, and he just gets lucky
But maybe it wouldn't stand up if I read it again these days.

I find that the weakest part in the book, imho. And so out of the character. But, by Morrison's admission, he purposefully made Batman miserable and unsympathetic character; contrary to his later stories. Then again, those later stories are not everyone's cup of tea.

Grant definitely rocked in the Zenith. One of the best comics he ever written. However, I have a rather love-hate relationship with him. I prefer his earlier work. Even if he was lazy, at least it's coherent. I can't swallow his mind bending strips. And I utterly hate his Batman run. The Filth is too long and plain weird. Nameless you can read all over again repeatedly and you get each time more confused than the last. Also, I don't find his punk attitude appealing. Maybe that's why I avoided Doom Patrol. But All Star Superman, We3 are great. As is his Animal Man (which shines with the depressive Coyote Gospel, although previous issues were good as well) ; Gothic is deeply chilling supernatural thriller while Arkham Asylum probably is going to be remembered mostly for Dave McKean's art. But I appreciate what Morrison's intended to do with the material. And I appreciate it further by reading his script (although it sounds like a work of mad genius). His Prog work seems purely invested in the paycheck he'd receive.
