Well, Rowling essentially agreed with Maya Forstarter, the scientist. Rowling hasn't started the trans thing.

But Gina, I do not know how she gets roles. Neither she is sexy, nor slim. For tough physical roles, you need someone who is not "elegantly filled).

Uhm...all my arguments against Gina Carano are to do with her extreme views on things like Covid, and the lack of serious substance in her public ponderings (and that I don't think she's a particularly good actress) - but being sexy or slim are not prerequisites for getting roles in shows, Shirley? And, anyway, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think she is beautiful, but what I think of her physical attributes isn't really relevant for the part. I don't fancy Carl Weathers, so he shouldn't have the role? Huh?

I have no idea what you mean by "for tough physical roles, you need someone who is not elegantly filled". Are you calling her fat? She's a wrestler - so I'm guessing her bulk is mostly muscle. I'd say she's (physically) perfectly suited for the role.

Well, she should do wrestler movies then. And yes, I called euphemistically. Because she objectively is. And in (most) movies of today, especially Hollywood, handsome look is required. Being fat does not look well on the screen when you are required to run, jump, roll over etc. This is primary reason why I hate xXx 2.

Dunkirk (2017)

Quite possibly the best war (ww2) film in recent years. Sorry 1917. I remember when I saw it in the theatre, the music was so loud it was overbearing and almost embarrassing. (What would I give to have that feeling again?) But, the music score is sooooo terrific. Hans Zimmer is robbed of the Oscar. As for the film itself, it's made very strongly, completely auteur approach to filmmaking. And CGI use is minimal! Everything was real as it could be. Photography is great. All shots focusing on group of soldiers on the beach, or aerial segments up in the clouds while sea is below are spectacular. Dunkirk isn't without lacking, though. I felt like Nolan tried to make an epic film and at the same time, intimate, personal film, seen thru the eyes of one man. As results, all epicness feels rather timid. Plot itself is intricately crafted (air, sea, mole). But I wish the mole arc got more story. As it is, it looks like it lasts for two days, instead of given one week. For example, it would've been interesting what happens to CIllian Murphy character. About the characters, I like that they are so simple. It's just a survival story of people who desperately attempt to save their lives (including Harry Stiles asshole character, bent to sacrifice the others). Also, what I liked about the film is enemy (Germans) presence being reduced to bare minimum. While it's not their story, I am actually tired of seeing same people in the same uniforms again and again.

Hardware (1990)

Well, I suppose this one is fairly famous on this forum. The core idea taken from a Judge Dredd comic, which resulted in copyright issues as nor the story nor the creators were mentioning during the intro or the end (reportedly resolved in DVD version). Hardware is one of the purest industrial movies. It's shot mostly in dark, claustrophobic, hard to orient environment, with nightmarish feel. Color red is heavily used in the film. As for the film itself, there is some fine filmmaking here despite being a very low budget picture. As for the actors, they are bit subpar, particularly the main two, who don't look much convincing on the screen. Then, there is William Hootkins (Lt Eckhart from Batman) and he steals the scenes he was in (albeit very few), playing voayeur pervert who spies on couples having sex and using extremely vulgar language. I also like the music, especially the song that plays during the end credit and sex scene. I just can't get it out of my head. As horror film, I find the film pretty scary. It maybe needed a bigger budget to work with, but what we got is not bad at all. For 1.000.000$

Ezquierra. But that's probably because I dislike Mick.

This is easy. MacNeil all the way. When I saw his art in America, I couldn't believe it's possible that some can draw like that.

Definitely Ron Smith. His style reminds me on Brian Bolland, but has its own flavour. I don't like Mick. Too cartoonish and his earliest Dredd is almost unrecognizable.

I was also a dab hand at Law in Tekken 2 and 3. I played so much I developed callouses on my thumbs.

I once got a perfect round against my older brother, standing outside the room, with my back to the screen and my eyes closed. I played based on sound cues from his character.

Then he beat the crap out of me for being a smart arse. Which was kind of just like the game, only in real life and reversed. And more painful.

Ahahaha, lol.

When my buddies said to look at Nina, she is hot. I was like WTF, it is the game. At that time, I thought that T3 is the coolest game ever. How I hated certain characters who appear in later stages (Lei, Hwoarang, Xiaoyu, King, Nina, Bryan, Mokujin)

Reading these comments, I've been taken away to the past, my childhood. Which started somewhere in the mid 90s. Yogi Bear, platform game, and Lion King on Sega Megadrive. On PC, beside Blood, I remember some cool golf game, that unlike normal golf games, this one had quirky level design, filled with various obstacles. I remember one level took place under the walter, with octopus that moves your ball away if it gets near him. Then, Pac-Man ofcourse. Atomic Robo Kid. Tekken 3 I played almost every day on the arcade. Hm... Oh, yes, Need For Speed High Stakes, oh that was blast. Despite my awful driving then, I couldn't waste one day if I didn't play the game. Jurasic Park. Microsoft Fury3. Yep, these are all games that occupied me for hours and days.

Maverick

What can I say about this dumb film?  It's an action comedy.  It has a healthy does of 90's naivety.  It has pre-antisemitic-rant  Mel Gibson.  A really bad cameo reference to Lethal Weapon that wasn't worth the screen time.  Jodie Foster and Alfred Molina are good in it.  It's mostly harmless fun, but not without its problems.  The twists raised a lot of questions about what was happening in the film.  Kinda made the whole journey seem pointless.  Not John Wick 3 pointless.

I remember Maverick from my childhood. It was fun. I haven't seen that film in a long time. I remember it by intense poker plays between Gibson and Molina. And quirky James Garner performance. As for being pre-antisemitic rant, it still is post-homophobic rant.

Gave Brandon Cronenberg's new film, Possessor a watch last night.

Some interesting body swap concepts explored, even if it wasn't quite up to the standards of his dad's most celebrated work.
Some wincingly effective gore too.
Does Sean Bean make to the end of the movie?
Well I gues you'll just have to watch to find out!!!

Jesus, I didn't know that another kid follows his father in cinematographic steps.

Over the Top (1987)

A kinda off-beat entry in Sly's filmography. Can a film about arm wrestling fall under sports movie? Anyway, this is not usual Stallone's film. This one is much more melodramatic in scale. Arm wrestling scenes could have been done a little better imo. Oh, and that corny moment when the kid teaches Sly about winning and loosing, just before Sly's final match. Nice ost, though.

In the pause of MK11 sessions, I started to play two games, all different by genre, gameplay, and setting.

Spintires

I played Mudrunner previously, so I went for the original game now. I would rather perhaps try Snowrunner, but that'd be after I purchase a new graphic card (in MR, I had to put the GPU slider on the half in order to get a playable frame rate). Anyway, some say Spintires is better than Mudrunner. Hm... Well, it's certainly more difficult. And the gameplay is more polished in MR. I already got frustrated in the first stage. First, the camera is a real mess. Real weird angles you've been given to work with, despite you can adjust your view with your mouse, it doesn't help entirely. Controls are exactly the same (by default) like in MR, or better to say, vice-versa. In Spintires, however, you don't get to see a control map when you're loading logs with the crane, which in addition to camera issues can be a little off-putting. But, from MR, I already knew controls by heart. But the most frustrating part is that the risk of turning over is bigger than in MR. Maybe that's realistic, I don't know. But my trucks rolled, even on the slightly steep surface, which never happened to me in MR. But, for a Spintires game, it delivers the goods. As I said, Mudrunner's gameplay is exactly the same as in Spintires, and while it doesn't offer that ad many options like in Snowrunner, Spintires manages to be an entertaining game, for all its fault. And I find the mud effects to be better than in Mudrunner. There's nothing better to see than observing deep mud trails left by your truck.

Shellshock 2: Bloodtrails

This I already finished up. I remember Shellshock 2 from some review I read, which talked in not really flattering terms about the game. That's why I hope that gentlemen from Rebellion won't take issues with my comment (if they read this), as I do it in a constructive manner. And who knows, maybe we'll get one day an improved version of Shellshock. Anyway, Shellshock 2 is fps, set during the Vietnam conflict. You're a soldier whose brother is injected with a substance that turns people into murderous zombies and you're to find your bro. On the surface, Shellshock 2 looks like a decent, average shooter, made for die-hard fps fans. I'll admit that shooting mechanics are solid, weapon reloading, etc... But everything else... It seems like developers strived to make a mediocre game, but only to fail in almost every category. Voice acting and sound effects are average, at best. But that didn't bug me. Graphically, the game looks average, even for the time it's been released (circa 2008/2009). But, graphics suffer from awful contrast. More often than not, when I am in the open, I get shot by an enemy I just can't see. It may be legitimate in real life, enemies hiding behind the bushes, but here is annoying because the game doesn't differentiate if the level takes place at night, from natural darkness and enemy who is several feet far from you. Next, maybe it's like irl, but this is not a simulation shooter. Weapon accuracy and hit detection are horrible. You have the enemy in iron sights, fire, but he seems he is bulletproof. This is frustrating when it comes to dispatching zombies. I had a shotgun, and maybe for a fifth of an inch I aimed next to the zombie's head, shoot, but the fucker just keeps going at me. What also frustrates is that you can't outrun zombies, so you can imagine what is like when several of them are at you and you want to run away to give yourself some room to turn around and blast them, especially in tight corridors. There's no option to jump, except when you're interacting with some ledge. Levels are designed in such a way that are mostly bereft of cover and finding any. Finally, I played the game on beginner difficulty because I couldn't get the first QTE, even though I pressed all buttons prompted on the screen (which I did on medium level), I always die. But that doesn't mean the game is easy. Oh, and boss fights are stupid. But at least is brief, some 4-5 hours took me to finish it. After that, a pleasant feeling when I went straight to add/remove programs.

Strontium Dog I'd love to see as open world rpg.

Judge Dredd... Well, if they could remaster JD vs Death. Improved graphics, ability to play in third person as well as first person, various bonus material. It would be awesome.

Fiends of  the Eastern front as real time strategy.

I played recently Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin (well, actually, re-played) and both Dracula Resurrection and Dracula: The last Sanctuary. Sherlock Holmes was again incredibly difficult (which was evident by the fact I again had to occasionally retort to watching YT walkthroughs). As for Dracula, it still holds up in terms of atmosphere and graphics were amazing for the time it has been made. Resurrection was somewhat easier experience although I had to replay from a certain point because there was a glitch that stopped me from progressing further. The Last Sanctuary...well, I expected less frustrating experience, but I was glad when I finally beaten it and went straight for add/remove programs. Searching for symbols in the graveyard was immensely hard, part in terms for poor lighting and part for pixel hunting (where graphics were generally nice, but this was like searching for a needle in haystack). Also, the logic of few puzzles was senseless and you don't get always what item works for an object.
Also, I do not want to forget amazing The Wolf Among Us. I was sad first when I heard that sequel won't come, for TTG being shut down but in recent months I heard that TWAU 2 is back in development.

Well, the game i mostly remember I played voraciously in my childhood was Blood by Monolith. It had cool weapons, unique level design (which was something breathtaking to me) and cool enemies. Also, it had wicked sense of humor, but I remember it as well for ridiculous amount of grotesque violence (like from earlier Pter Jackson movies) and for I still was new for save/load system and play using keyboard and mouse (as by default the game control were mostly on keyboard). So I died a lot, and it took me a very while until I managed to get thru all levels.
