Off Topic / Smiths to reform

According to highly unreliable gossip site Popbitch, crap eighties band The Smiths are to reform, to the delight of lovers of dull indie wimp rock.

Off Topic / Dabnett Warhammer GN's
29 July, 2004, 04:23:20 PM
Apparently one of 2K's favourite droids has a new GN out for the Black Library/Warhammer 40k in August. I've been waiting for this softback version as the art looks fantastic :-

Lone Wolves by Dan Abnett
An Imperial Guard squad stranded and under attack by tyranids receive help from an unexpected quarter in this softback edition of the smash hit graphic novel!

After that in October there is also what sounds a pretty bizarre innovation - the pocket sized GN ! I'm not sure just how big these are going to be - mebbe they are going to be the same sought of thing that Crossgen tried ? Be interested in the price too. If they are a success maybe Jamie will take a leaf ?

Titan: God-Machine by Dan Abnett
The first in an awesome range of pocket-sized graphic novels. Includes volumes I - IV of Dan Abnett's epic comic strip!

Personally I'd like to see some in-depth interviews & career retrospectives of the big three - Wagner,Mills & GFD. You could add in Ezquerra and some of the other older/retired artists like the Ronster. Outside of 2K people Tom Tully (if u could find him!)& John Cooper (who did a few very early Dredds) would be interesting subjects.

Mebbe a one-off article on the evolving art style/ representations of Dredd, not just his changing uniform etc but the use of panel layouts, splash pages etc as the industry changed.

I was at the first Shedcon too. No one remembers me becuse I didnt make the pic (sob).

In fact, ShedCon 1 could become like the Pistols @ the Roxy or the Beatles @ the Cavern Club, everyone remembers being there after a few years....

Prog / Re: Prog 1400

Wow. With Prog 1400 & Meg 222 my thrill-circuits have been totally shattered. Best joint line-ups for, er, well ever really.

Highlight for me has to be Caballistics though. This is the best thing since sliced bread - bring on the GN. And make Grennie & Dom sign a 5 year exclusivity deal before they become the new Diggle & Jock.
Only downers for me were both in the Meg, where both Anderson & Black Siddha let down the all-star line-up.

Well I'd definitely be up for doing an interview !

This guy wrote 'johnny red', 'leopard from lime street' & 'roy of the rovers' amongst many others for donkeys years - he must have plenty of stories, and I've never seen an interview with him

Moose, you've seen Tom Tully ????!!!

Everyone & his Uncle has been looking for him recently (well me & David Bishop for starters).

I'd love to do an interview with him - the guy is a UK comics *legend*.

Yeh Garth is a *huge* Johnny Red fan. Plus artist John Cooper is still alive, kicking & drawing.

At least a one-off special with those 2 at the helm would be really, er, special.

pvs, for the best of marvel nonsense check out frank millers run on 'daredevil' (elektra et al - the basis for the film) and also Walt Simonsens run on 'Thor'.

I just read 1-8 & am glad I didnt shell out for it - the first few episodes are fun but it gets a bit dull after that.
