Its Joe Colqohoun. He drew 'Johnny Red' from its start in 1977 for 2 years, then went on to do CW in 1979. John Cooper then took over JR.

Off Topic / Great "Aiiiiiieeee's" of our time

For no real reason I thought I'd post some good 'Aiiieee!' moments as I come across them in my 'Battle' scanning project.

This first one is from 'Johnny Red', some Kraut cops one of Johnny's bombs and gives the appropriate yelp...http://www.marbles.frothersunite.com/imag/phpBB2/JohnnyRed_15x_150478.jpg">

I've come over all strangely giving and philanthropic, not sure why.

Anyway, I was thinking that we have a fairly stable group of online chums here at 2K Boarders - is there anyway we could do something for Charity ?? Save The Children or something ?

I really don't know what, but it could all end up presenting a cheque for Tharg to donate on our behalf at the next Dreddcon or something ??

I mean I dunno if that is just a whip round of boarders or a sponsered marathon 2K read or something more creative, but it might enable us to feel good about ourselves, make the world a marginally better place etc.

Or not ??

Btw I've added a STC link to my 'Battle' site as a start.

Help! / Re: HELP WANTED MISSING US COMICS ...

I cannot understand the fuss about the Conan comic - its ok, but nothing special. People are raving about the artwork, which I reckon is sub-par if anything.
Still, I'll be hanging on to my copy if its gonna be worth a few bob :)

Off Topic / Marshal Law: Cloak of Evil
03 April, 2004, 01:59:01 AM
I've not heard anything else about this ?! Why an 'illustrated novel' not a comic ? :(

"Marshal Law: Cloak of Evil GN (Titan Books) - RANDY: See, I got all excited when I saw that this was original Marshal Law material by creators Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill. Then I realized that it wasn't a new comic, but in fact a new illustrated novel. Still good news for Marshal Law fans, but I'm really not big into the illustrated novel format in general, so I'm disappointed that this isn't a full-on graphic novel featuring the ultraviolent superhero parody."

Well I'm in. Gordo is obviously a sick & twisted individual, but frankly the man has talent. I like the cut of his jib.

You can read the strip (and others) on link below - some of the scans could be better quality, but its churlish to complain on that score I guess....

General / Re: Siku on Dredd again?
01 April, 2004, 02:34:28 PM
I also started scanning 'Meatmonger' but stopped once it became clear that both story and art were well below par. The strip was the worst kind of filler and definitely rushed.
Having said that I normally love Siku's stuff. I disagree strongly with PVS about Fetish which is excellent. Lovely use of bold primary colours and daring interpretations.
I'd far rather have talented & creative people on 2K like Siku, rather than artists who I would describe more as functional 'draughtsman' (say (no offence) people like Richard Elson, Steve Yeowell)).

Help! / Re: Sci Fi Recomendations please!....
03 April, 2004, 04:31:22 PM
Have to agree with 'Snow Crash' being a great book, altho' I preferred his next one, 'The Diamond Age'. (His later books ('Cryptonomicon') didnt do much for me).
Jeff Noon's 'Pollen' is also ace.
Basically anything by P K Dick is fabulous. 'Ubik' & 'A Scanner Darkly' are good places to start.
If you pick up anything from the sci-fi masterworks series you can't go far wrong.
Most (if not all) the above can be found in your local library for zero cost :)
