I used to make a fundamental mistake of creating a line art layer after changing from bitmap to grayscale and lowering the file resolution. This creates a mid tone buffer all around the line art and appears as a white-ish line when printed. This no doubt is very boring to sane people, but sadly interesting to me.

I've pulled way back on the obvious computer rendered backgrounds so it's far more traditional in appearance. Just using photoshop as a colouring tool.
BTW, Dan has gone kill crazy in book 3. Anything that moves gets killed.

Well I liked the VC's art but I may be biased.
It also comes out on my wife's birthday.

I used to really like Anthony Williams art a whiles back but now it's just "I know, i'll draw a couple of figures and then stick a photo in the background, then I can stop working by lunch-time and have the rest of the day off." The guy isn't actually drawing any backgrounds at all! I feel cheated.

I Wish!

General / VC's specifically 1332
20 March, 2003, 02:20:52 PM
Hi
I just wanted to make a couple of comments regarding my artwork on the VC's.
I've noted what's been said on the 1332 thread and there are a number of valid points that I agree with.
I do think with hindsight and the benefit of seeing this and previous episodes in print that I should have used a far more subdued colour pallette and also not gone so overboard with the cgi and photo montage.
It's always tricky, trying to do something new while still keeping it within the brief of the job in hand. In this case, I think the balance wasn't quite right.
That said, I'm pleased with overall drawing of the strip and I also think I'm heading in a direction that will produce the results I'm after in future work.
The final two episodes begin to address some of these concerns and are stronger in my opinion.
By the way, I also draw Scooby Doo and I think we should all push for a Dredd/Scooby crossover as next year's big event. I can see it now, Judge Death muttering "I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids".

Hey Anthony, I heard ages ago that you're a Welshman? Is this true?

Welsh through and through.
I'll wear my leek with pride tomorrow.

Holding my hand up time.
This is being typed by the stubby fingers of Anthony Williams.
As each episode of V.C.s is coming out I'm painfully aware that I bunged to many cgi gimmicks in. My computer chair is now on a timer wired to the mains. So if I get carried away creating luverly rocks I'll get 50,000 volts up my arse.
By the way, how do you get those oh so cute little icons next to your names?
