Off Topic / Re: The Political Thread

QuoteThat's anecdotal of course,

Anecdotal and true. I have health insurance, and would not be without it.  The public system is fine, even brilliant once you get past A&E for most run of the mill hospital needs, breaks, maternity etc. IF you need a consultant, in my experience you need health insurance.
It gives priority to all procedures and access to doctors above everyone else in the public system, In the FXXKING public hosptial. The whole system is on its head and IMO there is only one winner, the consultants.
Having insurance, I am part of the problem, but I have four kids, and I have had the misfortune to have to use the insurance, and the luck to have it.
I don't get overly excerised about most political stuff, I see thousands on the street protesting over a utility bill for a service received, and that an awful lot of people in the country have been paying for for years, but no one protesting over the A&E overcrowding or the fact that I can have my child's tonsils taken out next week, but my neighbour with no insurance will have to wait months for their child to be seen IN THE SAME HOSPITAL.
GRRRRRR.

I got this    'can only assume it was a Tully pseudonym'.

I don't have the comics to hand other than taking out a load of boxes, did Tully write any other stories in 2000AD at that time? IPC at the time did not like to see that same writer have multiple credits, hence all the G&W alias's in the Eagle.

Books & Comics / Re: The House of Daemon out now!

Ta Colin, and while Bakers didn't set the world on fire, it held its own.
Its more an exercise in making room! I recently bough a collection of 1000+ british comic, with loads of Ken Reid material, priceless stuff. I am looking out for the mythical Ken Reid strip that was proposed for 2000 AD.

According to Pat Mills

'A few weeks before 2000AD was due to go to press, I learnt that there was a brilliant Ken Reid cartoon strip he had produced for a dummy that had never been published!!! The same managing editor thought it was disgusting and condemned it to the vaults.  It concerned the hideous mutant survivor of a nuclear war who had a horrible "thing" on his back and every week he would try and kill himself.  But each week the thing on his back would prevent him.  So if he jumped off a cliff, the thing would turn into a propeller and fly him to safety etc.  You can just imagine how Ken would have drawn it!  How deliciously foul and what a wonderful antidote to all those saccharine strips in Whoopee! et al.  Just what I needed for the back cover of 2000AD.  I had 100 per cent power to do what I wanted with 2000AD, so I requisitioned the strip from the vaults. But the old regime told me that it had mysteriously "disappeared" and could not be found. Yeah, right.'

Most ideas were reused, so I am (foolishly) hopeful of someday finding it in a 'Creepy Creation' or some such in one of the humour comics.
I am hopeful of getting at least one more out before Christmas, two if the stars align.

The books will be on offer for the next few days, so now's the chance!

Really looking forward to seeing it, a DVD for Christmas would be perfect. I have a very small part in it, I tried to organise an interview with an early member of 2000AD's staff, but unfortunately it fell through at the last minute.

Congrats on all the marriages! Back yesterday from an overnight at a wedding, and still not the better of it. Weddings are great!

He got 30+ years work out of it, he didn't just confine it to future sports! He could tell a story though, his Steel Claw stuff is good fun.

Do, the 2D cons always were great shows. Most of the same folk behind this one so I expect it to be good.
I should be bringing a lot of seventies  IPC comics (doubles) with me too, Battle Valiant, Warlord etc, I need to make space!
