News / Re: New 2000 AD creators blog

QuoteI'd been under the impression that 'RE Wright' was a pseudonym used by Mills (according to his page on Barney, anyway). But I bow to your superior knowledge! It certainly makes sense that he started Planet of teh Damned off and then handed over scripting duties.

I asked Pat Mills about it when I was doing Beyond 2000AD and he never heard of Wagners Walk, and Planet of the Damned was a leftover from the first issue of 2000AD that had not been used. The switch from monthly to weekly for the format of Starlord left a big hole in their first issues, so Planet of the Damned was dusted off.
If you read Wagners Walk, and the last Hellman, its a direct continuation, and according to David Hunt, Finley-Day had been scripting Hellman in Battle.

Never heard of it until now and it looks cool, but the house is heaving with stuff already I couldn't justify it.

Brilliant Blog Alex, well done. I have given it a plug on the Hibernia FB page, I think this deserves as wide an audience as possible.
Just a correction on Pat Mills, Planet of the Damned was created and the first instalment scripted by Pat, but the rest by someone else, possibly Alan Hebden, and Wagners Walk has nothing to do with  Pat, more than likely scripted by Finley-Day, and is a direct continuation of Hellman from Battle. R.E. Wright is the author of both, tells its own story.
I have passed the Blog onto to Steve MacManus too, keep up the good work!
The pool thing Jim, I think that came for the Deadline/Fleetway combined party (Christmas/after awards?) and was mentioned in Speakeasy or Comic World, I have them all pulled out, Ill see if I can find the mention.

QuoteBut where do new customers come from if books are only available by subscription or from odd little shops that only existing customers visit?
This. Comics need to be on the newsagents shelves. I am not talking of The Mega Collection, but the weekly and the meg. Marvel and DC pulled from newsstands,  interesting piece here, and read the comments on Archie comics. http://www.comicsbeat.com/who-killed-the-newsstand-comics-market/

General / Re: 2000AD Original Art Thread
13 March, 2015, 11:52:05 AM
Before kids and recessions I got a nice few pages of original art, I really like them, and have my favourites on display. I was taking out the folder of pieces I have on display this morning to take a few pictures of art for something different, and I was looking at the four pages of Carlos that I have.
The four page below are from the Rage storyline, I have the title page as well, but that's on display and and I wouldnt part with it. The reason for this post, is that its such a shame to have these tucked away in a folder, looked at once every while, it would be nice to have them on display, but I dont have the room.
Its a long time since I bough anything I am well out of the loop, IF I was to consider selling them, is Ebay the best bet, or selling them  to an art dealer like the Book Palace?

Sheridan, they are talking about a fanzine I did Last year called Beyond 2000AD.
Eamon and Hawk, the print run is gone, and I have no plans to reprint it. I will have two more fanzines this year, so for next year I have a vague plan to do a compilation of all the 'zines into a bumper book.

That's a great find Butchie, cheers for showing!  To be fair, they couldn't mention it if they didn't know of it.

Starlord was great, it had a tortured evolution and lots fell out about it, but its one of a handful of reasons that 2000AD is still here. As I have said before, it still could be called 2000AD and Starlord (or vice versa!) Beyond 2000AD has Starlords story but is well sold out, if anyone fancies a PDF let me know.

Zen, I'm pretty sure that these got distributed over this side of the water, When I was completing the collection about ten years ago, every bulk I bought at the time  here has 1208, and I bought mine off the newsies.
