I once moved a similar collection, but only about 1000 miles! in three tea chests, that was 10 years ago, I finally got around to taking them from my parents house and found them to be in a decent condition, some slight damage to the glossy covers that weren't bagged.

One final thing you dont mention is insurance, check that it covers replacement of your collection.

General / Re: Dredd and 2K - can one live wi...

"The years may tick by as Dredd stories started in 2099 and are presently set in 2124 but although we see Dredd ageing, the same could be said of Batman and Superman but the stories continue without getting to bogged down with true 'real' time ageing. "

Logan, and others above, cite the longevity of Supes and Bats, as reasons for the continuation of 1 year for us, one year for him, philosphy. DC works on a 5-10 year 'real life' passage of time, for one year of the character, altough, every christmass theres a Santa story, so giving DC characters 5-10 christmasses a year!

These DC charactes do get bogged down in continuity, and every so often DC revamp their universe to do away with those anomolies. The original Batman stories of the 30's and 40's were ignored when the character was re-invented in the 60's, all of which history was ignored again in 1985 when the history was rewritten again, and then again in 1999 when time lines were reset in a year zero rewrite. Altough many fans in the 60's complained that Bats no longer would use a gun, fans in the 80's complained about the loss of giant typewriters and alien nuclear monsters, from the Bat mythos, and then again in year zero, we lost a fat bumbling Alfred, and some of Robins history.

Great characters, and Dredds, there in the top ten of all time, can and do survive rewites of their history, there's nothing stopping Wagner from carrying on with his ageing Dredd, and have him die on us, only for the following week to write a definitive 'year one' story, Dredd in the academy, his first days on the street, all the history can go, or can be recompiled, imagine if Cursed Earth, Necropolis, Doomsday, the Robot Wars, all happened in the same year!

On that tack, we could redefine the passage of time in Dredds world, change it so that five years of the comic are one year in MegaCity1, we could then have a Dredd who's twenty years younger than he his today, with all his history, and still have had a five year history for all previous events to have occured in.

Dredd as the title character will not be ousted from these pages, but he will have to undergo major reconstruction if he is to survive another 25 years. Saying that I think we are most likely still five years from having to do anything that drastic.

Try putting scojo's name on your next submission - It can't be any worse than being rejected for being yourself!

"you have to be like Tarzan and assert yourself "

Umgower shoosie, run now little one and tell your jungle friends that the white man and his sticks that shoot lighning are comming (the cat, climbs down from tarzans lap, and makes for the front door, only to be swayed from his all important mission by a loose thread from Tarzans loin cloth.

"Ouch" says tarzan, trying to cover his manhood, looks like were going to get that multplex anyhow!

Scojo, you've brought this point about the dirth of new writers in 2kad, before, it is very dissapointing that an anthology title such as this, does not take more risks with writers/and or artists. For a change of pace (and ala marvel and DC) can we try writers from other media? the american big guns have gone for film writers recently (last years Bob Gale on batman) so how about some of our BBC tv writers given a go!

let me cast my tuppence on the pile, READ the League, but for others like myself, who aren't versed in victorian litrature, I would also reccomend reading the following books. 20,000 Leagues under the sea, King Solomons Mine, Around the world in 80 days, Dracula, Murder in the Rue Morgue (short story)The time machine, The invisible man, and the John Carter series on mars, Tarzan, then try PJ Farmers tarzan books, Phileas Foggs other Diary, then try this link for a frame by frame anaylisis of League.

Off Topic / NOW you wish you had a 2kad beanie!

it's the rain I suppose, but I have a question, how do you wear your beanie, the logo to the front, inside out, jauntily to one side, facing the rear? (thats the back of your head, not actually your rear!

Prog / Re: Farewell Bish-OP...
04 February, 2002, 08:46:33 PM
for a long time, I disliked the way that Bish-op operated on 2kad and then the Meg, in fact the way Diggle took over, seemed to put Bishop in the shade, then (I suppose it's about two years now) I found myself in tears of laughter each time I read Dave's coloumn in Comics International. Any plans revelaed for his future?

point taken, your honor,
and then the court sighed,
for the punchline of your joke
left you open, yes wide!

Third day puritans,
their duties and prayers
Shouldn't stand, with their eyes closed
at the top of my stairs,

The things that they see
from behind closed doors
should be kept from the shelves
for young girls and young boys!

Mandy and bunty, Sonic and crew
The Tweenies and telletubbies and gi joe
would write to their minister
That dredd should just go

Up to the shelves with computers and things
Books on yacthing and girls who wear strings
Thats where Dredd should be, it's where he belongs
with the oiled girls and the boys that wear thongs!

This board is the finest,
It's dandy, it's great,
except for the posters,
filled with venom and hate.

There's Scojo, and Mark, and MK13,
paulvonscott, and Logan and Wake,
their messages are filthy, dirty, unclean,
and sometimes, the mickey, they take!

Theres no other finer when wrapped in a bin liner,
with an orange stuck in their throat,
Chelsea shirts are forbidden,
but you can always get hold of a goat!

we bend them and break them,
and beat the old dog,
but still cant replace him,
that beatleguissian Tharg!
