General / Re: Cursed Earth Too Tame?.........

I always thought they didn't fly because in Roger Zelasney's "Damnation Alley", Hell Tanner drives across a radioactive waste land on a mercy mission. OOPs cynicism attack.

Agree the Cursed Earth does seem to be getting tamer. There's the work farms out there too. But the key qquestion is are house prices going up?

Time to 'fess up. Despite being a life-long sci-fi fan I 've never been to a convention of any kind. I have an irrational fear (totally unfounded) that they will be full of Simpsons Comicbook Store Guys who will laugh at me for not knowing my Abnett from my elbow.

Anyone willing to post some photos on Saturday for us stay at homes to have our very own virtual Dreddcon? Honest we won't talk about you on the board while your away. Will there be a web-cam at the event? Is that a stupid question, not knowing much about computer wizardry?

I couldn't agree more with the title of this thread.

General / Re: Artists vs Designers

How can I say this in a non-confrontational way?

The blokes who draw 2000ad are not designing anything. They're artists (good one's I'll grant you and they may well have design qualifications) but that's it. They're not designing anything because design implies subsequent manufacture.

Having said that there is a overlap between initial conceptual design and art.

So wind yer neck in Dounreay.

Can you keep us posted on the tatoo thing Slippo?

If a holiday home isn't a big enough bargaining chip to buy out the tatoo idea... just remember a tatoo isn't just for Christmas.

And for me, one, some or all of the following.

A bit of peace and quiet.
A walk in the woods.
A fine venison steak.
A good malt whisky, port, crackers and cheese.
And, if as lucky as last year, sledging!

Just to prove I do not truly have a heart of stone.

Old movies on telly. Esp anything B/W with Bogart/Bacall, Marx Brothers, Jimmy Stewart.

Long walks in the afternoon.

Having the time to put aside the day to day cares and reflect on what you truly value.

And if you're really lucky - SLEDGING!

"A face like a buldug lickin pish aff a thistle" is also a particularily outstanding example of the venacular.

I would commend  Tom Shields diary in the Glasgow Herald to any would be students of the Scots tongue.

By the way, all Campbells are scunners. There wasn't just one. It's a clan thing. Don't get involved.

A little light relief from all that voting and a refuge for us Scrooge's.

Things to hate about the festive season.

My top three are

1. Enforced jollity.

2. Decorations in the pub.

3. People who only go to the pub once a year at Christmas and ruin it for us regulars.

She turned me into a newt. I got better!

This has more of a 1950's deep dark Cold War feel to it.

Are we talking here about monarchs mainly made out of fish but with other bits added in or monarchs who stand on fish in order to be more clearly seen by crowds.

I wouldn't want to waste my vote on such a key issue.

Red Seas. Pity there isn't a "Most Colourful Outburst Following Zombie Invasion of Boozer" Award as it would have  won that too.
