i was an art student at the time, & my flat was much smellier that even neils room, and my parents used to piss them selves laughing calling me Rick, & i thought they were twats & rick was quite cool, appart from the whole cliff thing, & now i get the joke, what utter utter BASTARDS ! viv was the cool one !

Shane i wouldnt worry, theres a plethora of british ancient cultural crap that we'll refer to often, better move over here & watch satellite "gold crap" channel. luckily it doesnt work both ways, due to the marvels of cultural imperialism, we've probably seen all the tv from your childhood.

young ones- like friends, but smelly , swearing & with violence.

erm, i was thinking more along the lines of rescuing orphans from war zones than being a pavement artist ....

some interesting stuff there. I am not some gap year student, i am looking to the future, the rest of my life & what i want to do with it, i live wear i live & do what i do because it was the best option for the kids, the only option. as they are bigger, what am i going to do? play little crafts person for the tourists & sit on village committees until i'm 93 ?   work in the shop talking about the weather & ordering baked beans until i'm 65 ? i don't think so..

i can't do anything yet, but i want to start looking to the future rather simply struggling from day to day. Ive got a hell of a lot to offer & could be a bloody useful person somewhere, and unless all the heavy shit in my life finally crushes me first , i'm a tough cookie & so am happy to boldly go where others fear to tread, as long as i am able....

so i need to buy a learn russian tape huh ?

aye, keep those feelers out, i'm looking for a russian course, i know the firebrigade womens bit of the union has links in kazacstan.

i'm thinking, i could wait 6 years or so...ARGHHHHHHHhhhh! damn this hell hole !!!.... or take mini-bou a s a p... i just gotta get juve-2 thru exams & off to college, 6 - 18 months . psycho-juve is currently banished & can stay that way, ive done all i can WAY beyond the call of maternal duty, he's on his own ( mostly ).

in fact he's one of the reasons emmigrating seems such a great idea !

Off Topic / overseas aid work.. anyone know much?
08 November, 2004, 06:51:35 PM
okay help fuel my fantasies here,

i hate where i live & what i do, but can't do anything much about anything for a year or so, so i'm spending the time dreaming of the future i've always wanted;

i want to work abroad,
i want to use my business skills / pyschology qualifications / art & craft & design qualifications / ive run a charity / i'm physically strong & resourseful / i'm a problem solving logistical guru,
i want to do some sort of aid work, useful stuff.
i am not some 18 yr old gap kid with a back pack.
i still have family commitments.
i want to do asia in partic, ex soviet or such .

where do i start, what more qualifications would be useful to get while i'm stuck here?
it used to be VSO, but are there other organisations worth checking out ?

anecdotes please....
